As previously reported Associated Television International’s Jim Romanovich was going to have some updated news on IF The Daytime Emmys will be televised this year, and what decision has been agreed upon by NATAS, a broadcaster. and ATI as the production entity who has the option again this year to produce the telecast. Romanovich told On-Air On-Soaps the following exclusively:
Romanovich on Daytime Emmy Update: “As of today, I can tell you that if we go forward, I have a television offer for the event in prime time nationwide, PLUS a second run option on a sister broadcaster should we opt for this. We are still awaiting NATAS’ final decision about the venue and the concept. Oh, yes. There IS a concept that will be a first for the Daytime Emmys. If they agree, we’re in business. If they don’t agree, then they have a place selected that will most likely be for a non-televised event. It will then be our choice as to whether we want to produce it for television or not because ultimately when people see the show, they’re going to judge the production which will have our stamp all over it.
People constantly ask me if this will be the last Daytime Emmys. As far as an event, I doubt it. As far as a television event, it depends. I can’t imagine anyone doing and risking what we do in order to make this happen. With that being said, these last two days I’ve seen something great happen. There’s a buzz about the Daytime Emmys with sponsorships and with the broadcasters that are in direct response to the renaissance we brought to last year’s show. What was dead in early 2009, was shown to be very much alive that August. This week, I have seen the reaction to the Daytime Emmys as not just being alive, but now regarded as a thriving event. A big deal! This, however, doesn’t guarantee a 2011 televised event. Many things have to happen with the 2010 event of which I think we’ve got covered that are ready to go as soon as we’re given the word. But the biggest factor, fans aside, is the daytime community itself. They have to support this. They can’t toss it aside and not show up or dismiss it in the press. That negativity is like kerosene for the press. I have never looked at the Daytime Emmys as a competition as I really don’t care who wins. If we’re on TV, we all win, right? Let’s celebrate the fact that we’re here, we’re having a good time, and we’re not going anywhere. Not this year. So, I’m appealing to my friends at ALL of the daytime shows to support us in supporting them IF having this on television is important to them. But if 2010 is the last televised event with us involved and it happens how we want it to happen, it will be a fitting end to a remarkable era.”
