Sad news to report this morning, Days of our Lives and soap fans beloved, Alice Horton the matriarch of the Horton clan, played by the incomparable Frances Reid has died. While details of her passing are still surfacing, we have learned that Frances passed away on Febraury 3rd in Wichita Falls, Texas. The actress was 95. While Frances had seldom seen little to no air-time over the last several years because of her failing health, DAYS always kept her spirit and her importance throughout family storylines even in her absence, as recent as the on-screen death of her son, Mickey Horton. Frances’s castmates tweeted the news, last evening, which started with her co-stars, Alison Sweeney (Sami) and Nadia Bjorlin (Chloe), and later former DAYS mainstay, Deidre Hall.
Deidre Hall (@DeidreHall) “Greg Meng called me this morning to tell me of the loss of our darling Frances Reid. Reid played Alice Horton from the shows beginnings in 1965. She was paired with MacDonald Carey as Tom Horton, and together they were the morale center and backbone of the people in Salem. After Carey’s passing, Alice continued being the voice of reason to her family and friends. Frances Reid received a Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. Our Video of the Day will rotate throughout the today, to honor Frances and her amazing mark and legendary she has made in daytime.
Of all the many heartfelt relationship’s on DAYS it was that of Bo Brady and Mrs. H., which touched many. Who can forget there legendary donut scenes? And who can forget Alice and her donuts, period. Or, the annual Horton Christmas gathering, and Alice counseling grand-daughter, Hope Williams Brady. So many memories that Frances has left to us. Our thoughts, and prayers are with Reid’s family, friends and colleagues today. Here’s to you Frances for years of enjoyment you brought to all of those who watched daytime. You shall be missed!
