47th Annual NAACP Image Awards: EX-AMC’s Michael B. Jordan Double-Winner! Empire’s Taraji P. Henson & Terrence Howard Take Home TV Drama Series Top Acting Honors!

It was a big night for former All My Children star Michael B. Jordan (Ex-Reggie), as well as the cast of Fox’s Empire, at the 47th annual NAACP Image Awards broadcast on Friday night on TV One.

The motion picture Creed was the big winner of the night in the film category, winning every category it was in!  Jordan received not only Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his work in the film, but also the evening’s highest honor of Entertainer of the Year. This year’s ceremonies were notable especially for taking place in the midst of an important debate about diversity, or the lack thereof, in Hollywood after many in the African-American film community felt snubbed at this year’s Academy Award nominations, especially because of critically-acclaimed films such as Straight Outta Compton being dissed.

In the television categories, it was Fox’s sudsy drama Empire that took home the prize for Outstanding Drama Series with its leading stars winning, too! Taraji P. Henson took home the award for her performance as Cookie Lyon in the Outstanding Actress in a Drama Series category.  Her counterpart, Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon) won the prize in the Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series field.
