Grab Your Hankies! Was This John Ingle's Last Scenes as GH'S Edward Q? Watch the Video!

When we ran our interview with Jane Elliot (Tracy) last week, and teased what General Hospital executive producer, Frank Valentini said in Soap Opera Digest about the return of John Ingle as Edward Quartermaine for a key scene on today’s episode of the ABC soap, we expected some heart-tugging moments, and boy, did GH deliver!
In what could be the ailing Ingle’s last appearance on GH, series head writer, Ron Carlivati tweeted, ” Don’t miss the return of the one and only #johningle AKA Edward Quartermaine today on General Hospital!” The scribe also tweeted an image from the episode here! pic.twitter.com/tpl9BWvo ”
However after the episode aired, Carlivati took to twitter again and stated, “Okay, who cried when Edward Q gave Patrick & Emma the thumbs up today on General Hospital? I’m man enough to admit I did!”
The scenes in question involved the amazing Jason Thompson, Jane Elliot, Leslie Charleson, as Patrick, Tracy, and Monica, and of course there was little Emma, who along with Edward, were integral to the hankie-filled moments.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Brook Lynn and Chase Have Their Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties
On General Hospital, Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Chase (Josh Swickard) both were treated to Bachelorette and Bachelor parties to shake off any of those pre-wedding jitters. At The Savoy, the ladies have a touching and fun time with Brook Lynn.
The bride-to-be gives a speech to thank everyone for coming, while Lois lets everyone know to try the signature cocktail the “Brooklynn Chaser”, which gets everybody eventually and mostly, drunk.
When Tracy (Jane Elliot) questions Lois (Rena Sofer) as to why there is no music for the party, Lois realizes she forgot, and somehow, who does she call to the rescue? Spinelli (Bradford Anderson)! Saving the day, he winds up playing some tunes and later gets on the dance floor to ‘shake it off’ with the gals.

Lois makes a speech as the mother of the bride, and shares how proud she is of the woman Brook Lynn has become. Wedding games begin, including one of “hot potato” with a wedding bouquet.
When it’s time for the “Silly Poses” section of the party, Spinelli has now morphed from DJ to staff photographer taking memorable photos of the ladies to remember the evening by.

The best part of the event, was when Brook Lynn tries to get her grandmother Tracy out on the dance floor, which, at first, she refuses. After several of the guests bust a move, a tipsy Tracy joins the dance party after Joss mentions that if her grandmother Bobbie was here, she would dance. Tracy says “she agrees” and begins to cut a rug on the floor, much to the delight of the other women.

In the final moments, a tipsy Joss and Kristina (Kate Mansi) have a confrontation about Sonny, and Joss lets Kristina in more on Sonny’s behavior, which looks to have clued in Kristina a bit more as to how something is way off about her dad.

Across town at the Hatchett Bar, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) and the men with the exception of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Jordan (Tanisha Harper), all attend Chase’s Bachelor Party where throwing hatchets into a dart board for supremacy is the order of the day. Drew (Cameron Mathison) and Ned (Wally Kurth) get into some words over ELQ, while Dante makes a toast to his police partner, Chase.

Suddenly Dex (Evan Hofer) shows up. Chase thanks Dex for coming, but Dex gets some dirty looks from other cops on the force. Dante gives Chase his present, which is a signed baseball by the Boston Red Sox.
Ned (Wally Kurth) makes a speech that although no one is good enough for his daughter, Brook Lynn, Chase has come closer than anyone has, so welcome to the family. Running in at the end is Blaze (Jacqueline Grace Lopez), who just left Brook Lynn’s party, and she toasts her singing partner, Chase, and to the great man that he is.

Cameron Mathison Previews New Game Show ‘Beat The Bridge’ (Promo)
As previously reported, Cameron Mathison (Drew, General Hospital) will be seen doing double duty this summer when he premieres in June as the host of Game Show Network’s Beat The Bridge.
Now, while Cameron will be the host with the most, that doesn’t mean he will stop playing GH’s Drew. In fact, Mathison taped the game show in 2023, so it will now air for the first time in 2024.
Taking to his Instagram this week, Cameron shared his enthusiasm and some new hosting snaps, sharing, “Our newest game show host reporting for duty😎 Head over to the Game Show Network YouTube channel for your first look at the show and don’t miss Beat The Bridge premiering this June! I can’t wait for you guys to see this!”

In Beat The Bridge, an enormous interactive bridge dares players to cross by stepping on the right answers to challenging trivia questions. As they play, each steps forward and puts money in their team’s bank, with bonus money for each successful crossing. Here’s the catch: the team gets to keep the money only if it can “beat the bridge” by returning one of its players back across before time expires.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Nina Confronts Ava for Sabotaging Her Relationship With Sonny and Signs the Divorce Papers
Looks like Nina (Cynthia Watros) and Ava (Maura West) are back to be each other’s sworn enemy number one. By the end of the Monday, April 22nd episode of General Hospital, the women know where they stand with each other after Nina goes in on Ava accusing her of wanting Sonny (Maurice Benard) all to herself, while her marriage has been on the rocks.
In story, at Nina’s office, Ava shows up to see Nina and says she is sorry about what happened with Sonny and that he reacted the way he did, acknowledging that is was over the top, even for Sonny. Ava says she’ll smooth things over, but Nina says she now understands how manipulative and transparent Ava really is.
Given their horrible history, Nina goes in on Ava and how she should never have trusted her. Nina wants to know how long has Ava had this agenda dating all the way back to telling Nina to turn Carly (Laura Wright) and Drew (Cameron Mathison) into the SEC. Ava says she never told her do to that, but Nina wants to know how long Ava has been playing her for a fool.

Ava says she moved in with Sonny to keep Avery safe and she wants to be on good terms with Avery’s father, Sonny. Nina thinks she likes being in Sonny’s inner circle. Ava tells Nina if she goes to him about her advising Nina to call the SEC on Carly and Drew, it won’t work. Sonny still considers Nina a traitor and he will think she’s lying because she’s so desperate to win him back. Ava says if Nina would stop blaming everyone else that maybe Sonny would respect her. Nina says “like he does you?” Ava says Sonny not only respects her, but he also counts on her.
From there, Ava launches into why she and Sonny understand each other, after all, Sonny is a powerful, turbulent, and sometimes violent man. She goes so far to say if Nina wanted someone to just sit by the fire with and play with their grandchildren, she’s got the wrong guy. Ava then talks about Mike from Nixon Falls (Sonny with amnesia) and how Sonny hid the darkest parts of himself from Nina back then, whereas with Ava they are the same similar creatures, so he doesn’t have to hide anything.

Nina wants to know just what Ava wants with Sonny? What is her end game? Ava responds that they understand each other, in ways she can’t with Sonny. Nina tells Ava she can go ahead and have it all and signs Sonny’s divorce papers. Ava walks out with the documents, while Nina in tears at her desk, takes off her wedding rings and has her assistant come in so she can messenger the rings back to Sonny’s address.

I don’t watch the soaps anymore since OLTL was cancelled. But when I saw this article pop up on facebook I had to take look. I love JOhn ENgle, he reminds me of my own grandfather. Makes me so sad to see him so frail. Wishing him all the best. Soaps brought joy to my life from my childhood, so to see them end and to see my favorite characters leave reminds me of the years passing me by.

heather-marie here. i think i cry both eyes drench on my pillow,laying back relax at night watching on soapnet,and daytime at 3 eastern,regular time,and i am still crying again seeing this morning before work again,on soapnet,for him to RARELY SPEAK that prove 2 me,i think he is maybe more ill then we believe. i feel sad,but i know he will be at peace,in heaven by his beloved real life wife,and him and LILA had the BEST relationship,for the older couples/seniors,and i will forever remember him with smiles nothing less.go wipe the rest of my tears now,head to work to enjoy our day because life really is just TEmpoRary,have to be like JOHN INGLE make it count,EACH LIVING DAY,he is so cool,so sweet,great actor,in many other shows,movies,and i will ALWAYS smile when i think of him,even if i cry again if he shall pass soon,i hope he live but i hear otherwise,and thank you for advising us of this Michael Fairman Love your blog and site,bye now.from heather marie.
You don’t know what you are missing. The dream team has done it again at GH! I liked FV and RC alot at OLTL, but loving them at GH, and I being a former GL fan didn’t watch and vowed never to watch GH! The show is simply incredible
John’s appearance on that show was the most emotionally stirring moment, I have seen, on any soap, in many years!

It was so nice to see John Ingle on GH today. It felt bitter sweet to me. John’s character has been a hughe part of General Hospital’s history. My hats off to everyone that has contribute to making General Hospital THE BEST show on ABC.

Such a classy moment. Well written and impeccably acted. This is an example of what Soaps can do best.
I adore John Ingle and it breaks my heart to think of General Hospital without him. He brought a warmth and comforting presence to GH. He is like the grandfather I never had. *sob*!
They played the emotional angle really well. And it had great impact. If John is retiring I will miss him. But unfortunately none of this makes up for the shameful way the quartermaines and all the other older,established vets have been treated on this show.
As a 42 yr viewer this isnt enough to make me forget that over the last 12 yrs or so the core families and history have been gutted from this show.
It started with the Guza/Phelps regime when they decided to worship Maurice Bernard and the Sonny character.
The Quartermaine’s were killed off and those characters that remained were written horribly like Billy Warlock’s AJ. It was all done to exalt Sonny and to turn the show into a Sopranosesque serial.
Under Cartini the Qs have remained nothing but older window dressing. They have no significant story, their history is not mined and there have been no new younger generation of this core family written back into the show. Cartini have done nothing but give us lip service where they are concerned. They rehired Leslie Charleson and we see her once in a blue moon. Instead of writing a new younger generation of Qs ( perhaps cousins or whatever) they continue to harangue us with talentless younger actors playing Sonny’s children ( hello new Christina) and the children of his never ending stream of insipid enemies (paging Trey, the son of Joe Skully Jr.)
I cant let Cartini off the hook for ignoring the Qs just like the Guza regime. It obvious that their true allegiance lies with their one life to live actors, and truly expounding on GH history is not a priority for them.
I wish our beloved John Ingle peace and prosperity for the rest of his days upon this earth.
OK…. here we go. CARLIVATI is in the process of returning GH to his heyday. I posted on here yesterday I believe, the GH of today, is more like Gloria Monty’s GH than anytime since she left. It is not going to happen overnight. I have the patience to watch what transpires…I do not want to see GH go the way of OLTO. Already there have been returns of the past, both storylines and characters. JMO… Also, my anniversary will be April 1, fifty years ago I started watching.
As I replied during the night, it was a short answer. For those that have watched since day one, we have seen so many ups and downs with GH. I recall in the late 70’s “Luke” got so much hate from a certain group because it was called the Luke and Laura show., Everyone cannot be happy all the time. Guza and Phelps killed the Qs. But then again, did they really, as Jason is in fact a Quartermaine. EVERYONE has a right to their favorites and those they could so without. That being said, as Maurice B said last week, the new “in command” have returned the show to an ensemble show. This from the person that the show had been focused on for years. In the interview he did state that it was great; as far as he was concerned. If in fact the show was so darn awful, why did it again win the Emmy. The show has won more that any othr show. All the neysayers need to sit back and watch. I have been on this ride since day one, and I can tell you that Gloria Monty is in heaven with a huge smile right now. GM saved GH in the late 70’s as FV/RC has in 2012. Just sit back and enjoy.

Oh please! The new regime has had nothing to do with the decimation of the Q’s! They are doing a wonderful job bringing GH back to where it once was! This is the summer, which means the teenagers get big stories so the show can hopefully gain new viewers for generations to come! Yes it was the Sonny show for many years, but many great storylines have come from all of that! Please don’t forget! It wasn’t just Sonny all the time! If we didn’t have Sonny, we wouldn’t have Alexis, Carly still in the mix as she is, wouldn’t have Kate, Olivia, Dante, the list goes on and on! Stop your bitching and enjoy the fact that we still have our GH!!

I sure hope it is not the last we see of him. It must be so hard for him at 84 and having had his wife pass away earlier this year. What an amazing man and career he has had.
Seeing John Ingle, et all ,during this scene was wonderful and heartwarming. Hoping he is feeling better soon, and that we won’t be losing him for long. Besides, GH needs Edward and Monica.

There are tears, laughs, thrills, surprises and heartfelt touching moments / true soap writing/story telling, a mixture of lives and happenings..
All presented with great suspense that keeps me on the edge.
John Ingle, while retired, will live on. He has brought us many years of greatness.
i miss him hope he can appear more often.
then on the GH Facebook page, someone said that Ingle died already. Hello he still lives. step back!
But if this his last scene it goes back to the final scene of Steve Hardy, he looked so frail and thin with a raspy voice. It was with Sarah Brown’s Carly. Ruby’s last scene was with Bobbie and Kelly’s and she looked bloated and only a had a few lines. Mary Mae’s final scene was brief and her voice was raspy. A few months before she talked to Stone about Death and was memorable.
I thought the same when Edward was on today. Tracy needed to hear those words from him and GG
needed for him to be a hero once again. THANK YOU John Engle for superb acting. You carried out your “wizardrey “this from the start. God Bless you! !!!

those scenes where just phenomenal & tugged at my heart so hard……yes i cried & i am crying now watching it again……….. as a viewer since 1963 there are not too many scenes that have affected me like this!
I was in tears when I watched these scenes. Heartbreaking. Brilliant performances by all involved. I do hope John Ingle gets better soon. GH can’t lose another Quartermaine.
I cried seeing John Ingle’s scene and I must admit I teared up just reading this article. Truly great scenes.
I just love John Ingle and his greatest character,EQ that we all love him so much.. I didn’t know he was there for last time.. I almost cried from Soapnet(I was gone all day long with my family,sorry,ppl.. 🙁 ) also I pray for real life person,Jerry Lawler who just recently heart attack from RAW from other night.. I feel so deeply in my heart to John Ingle and Jerry Lawler. I love them dearly as great people.

John Ingle scenes yesterday were great. You missed Tracy’s monologue at the end about Edward joining his beloved Lila in heaven.

Mr,. Ingle is a trooper and immensely taltented. What he tells in such few words and motions! It will be sad to see Edward go whern that time comes, and I hope GH marks that occasion and allows us to grieve the loss and to celebrate Mr. Ingle’s contributions.
Hoping John Ingle’s health improves. I love his portrayal of Edward. Great scenes and an awesome episode all around.

I can’t stop thinking about John Ingle… Edward has been one of my very favorite characters for so many years. The way he comes off so ornery, but really has a soft and loving heart. I’ll miss how he calls the women he cares about “Dear” and how he always kept the people we’ve lost with us. He always spoke of Lila and her roses, Emily and their memories, Allan, even old Jason. He had a love of family and wanted to so badly to keep the Quartermaine’s together… No matter how ch they fought. What’s Thanksgiving on GH without Edward and pizza? I’m so very sad…

This sequence remains one of the most profoundly touching things I have ever seen – anywhere. Not just on daytime TV. I will miss seeing John Engle tremendously, but know he is with his wife now, and Edward and Lila are up in the stars, together, where they belong. RIP John, you are TERRIBLY missed down here.
