If there is a sentimental favorite going into this years Daytime Emmy Awards, it has to be Days of our Lives, Peter Reckell. Playing Anti-hero and soap icon, Bo Brady for almost three decades, without ever having garnered recognition from his peers is quite startling. Well, this year Peter’s time may have come. Former “DAYS” executive producer, Ed Scott was forshadowing the actor’s Emmy future when he told Reckell at last year’s Daytime Emmys that he indeed would be a nominee in 2009. With Ed Scott’s producing skills and given the opportunity to show his emotional depth, Peter scored a nod for his performance in the aftermath of the plane crashed that killed Pop Brady.
But Peter and I talk more than Emmys! With the huge soap news of the exciting return of Crystal Chappell to “DAYS” as Dr. Carly Manning, I tell Peter during our conversation, that Crystal sat on the Blue Ribboon panel for the Lead Actor prize, and thought Peter’s reel was pretty terrific.
With Carly Manning heading back to Salem, and Crystal on-air in September, Peter tells me that he will finally have another leading story and get off the back-burner. But, being off the back-burner means spending less time with his little girl, Loden, who has become the apple of her daddy’s eye.
I hope all of Peter’s fans will listen to our audio interview, because I think you get a sense of the great joy and surprise he feels to be nominated and the joy he feels in fatherhood, AND the complete excitement of working with CC again. Peter is also very appreciative of his other on-screen half, Kristian Alfonso (Hope). After all ,together they have made Bo and Hope one of soaps all-time super couples.
