I caught up with soap legend, the outspoken and brilliant Tristan Rogers at the west coast DVD launch party of the film, “Manhattanites”, which stars several east coast soapers including: Forbes March, Ilene Kristen and David Fumero..to name a few. With the declining ratings of General Hospital on everyone’s mind these days and the SOS campaign launched by several of the shows fan bases, Tristan shed some light and shared his insight into what is wrong with the venerable soap, the state of the soap genre, and what needs to be done to take it out of its current malaise.
If anyone says that Tristan Rogers did not give one of the most beautiful peformances last year on “GH: Night Shift” I want to know who you are! Really… Robert’s colon cancer storyline was riveting and I want to hand Tristan an honorary Daytime Emmy even though GH: Night Shift was on in primetime and could not qualify! Tristan and I discuss working with Night Shift head writer, Sri Rao on the brilliant season, the fact that the show is not being renewed by SOAPnet, and getting to work again with Kimberly McCullough (Robin) and Finola Hughes (Anna).
But what of the death of Michael Jackson in all of this you ask? Tristan produced the 30th Anniversary show at Madison Square Garden of the King of Pop. We touch base on Tristan’s feelings on the sudden death of the world’s biggest music icon and more.
You can hear Tristan’s interview in his own words by clicking on the blue audio player at the top of the interview transcript. Go to the Global, “New This Month” area of this website or click here to go directly to Tristan! http://michaelfairmansoaps.com/article/articleItem.cfm?cms_article_id=110
