It was such a great pleasure to catch-up with one of soaps all-time favorite and most beloved actresses. I could only be talking about Martha Byrne!
I had waited to speak with Martha after she had debuted on General Hospital as Andrea Floyd, the mayor’s wife. Since she first stepped foot in the hallways of the hospital, Martha completely capitvated viewers with her new on-screen persona. Quite the departure from the role she played for twenty years of Lily Snyder, the earth mother and heroine of As the World Turns.
With soap fans deeply saddened by her departute from the role that won her two Daytime Emmys, there was definately a greiving process that all fans of the genre, who followed Matha’s and Lily’s years in Oakdale went through. So when we heard the news that Martha was back in daytime, first writing scripts for Brad Bell at “B&B”, and then finally back on-screen in a juicy role at “GH”, soapers and soap pundits could not have been more pleased. Martha is one of thoese performers that transcends into viewers hearts.
In this revealing interview, Martha and I discuss her new digs at “GH” and what discussions she had with head writer, Bob Guza that made her want to take on the role of Andrea. We also talk about missing her former “ATWT” co-stars, Paolo Seganti, Van Hansis, Maura West, Michael Park and Jon Hensley, specifically.
Martha’s efforts on behalf of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital have always been commendable and we discuss why she is so involved, and get the soap pro’s thoughts on the Daytime Emmy voting process that got many insiders and performers riled up!
