General Hospital Drama Series Win

Anthony Geary Lead Actor Win

Heather Tom wins Lead Actress

Chandler Massey wins Younger Actor

The 39th Annual Daytime Emmys have come and gone, and in the end it was a big night for General Hospital picking up their record eleventh win for Outstanding Drama Series and taking home five Daytime Emmys on the HLN telecast. The ABC soap was honored with several other major awards including: Anthony Geary for Outstanding Lead Actor for a record breaking seventh time for his role as Luke Spencer, Jonathan Jackson for his fifth overall Daytime Emmy, this one for the second year in a row for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, and Nancy Lee Grahn for her portrayal of Alexis Davis  for Outstanding Supporting Actress.  This was Nancy’s second Supporting Actress award, having previously won for her work on Santa Barbara.  She was not present on Emmy night.  GH’s Directing Team also picked up the prize for director William Ludel’s innovative “Luke’s Intervention” episode.

DAYS Chandler Massey, took home the Younger Actor in a Drama Series for his stellar performance in Will’s coming out story, while Christel Khalil of The Young and the Restless finally nabbed her elusive Younger Actress Emmy in her fourth nomination. And in the very tough Lead Actress category, another historic Emmy first occurred. The Bold and the Beautiful’s Heather Tom, as Katie Logan Spencer, won for the first time in the category, and is now the only daytime performer to have won in the Younger, Supporting, and Lead Actress categories. Finally, in the surprise of the night, the writing team of Days of our Lives won for Outstanding Writing in a Drama Series.

On-Air On-Soaps was backstage in the One-On-One press room area where we were able to interview and spend some private time with the winners. We got their initial reactions, posed some questions and shared in their jubilation, just moments after their names were called and they walked away with the prestigious gold statuette. Check out our chats in the video gallery with Anthony Geary, Heather Tom, Jonathan Jackson, Chandler Massey, Christel Khail, and members of the DAYS writing team. We also had an opportunity to talk with Todd Newton, who picked up the Emmy for the first time for Outstanding Game Show Host, for Family Game Night, and Bobby Flay who won for Outstanding Culinary Program for Bobby Flay’s Barbecue Addiction. In addition to the winners, several Emmy presenters and special guests stopped by the One-On-One Area to chat with On-Air On-Soaps including All My Children soap icon, Susan Lucci and another icon, The View’s Barbara Walters who was with Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient Bill Geddie. And what can we say could top that? Well, our fascinating interview with one of Jack Hanna’s formidable and incredible animals, a porcupine who seem to make his presence known to all the crews in the press area!

You can view the video clips in our special Winners/Press Room Video Gallery. And keep checking back for more updates as more videos are added. NOTE: To see all the videos hit the NEXT GROUP icon to the right of the + sign in the gallery, or you can select clips via the slideshow.

Thanks Michael! Great Job–Love Christel (and Chandler!) Too bad they are restricted by AGE from competing in Best Supporting, Best Actor categories since they gave the BEST PERFORMANCES of any actor on Daytime last year!
