On-Air On-Soaps attended Thursday night’s Daytime Emmy Nominee Reception 2010 at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills. Many nominees for Sunday night’s telecast where present, and we caught up with some of daytime’s brightest throughout the party and on the red carpet. Here is what they had to say:
Scott Clifton nominated for Younger Actor as Schuyler Joplin on One Life to Live, a show he is no longer on, had this to say when we complemented him on his reel, “It’s so funny. I was not happy at all with my choice, because I had to choose my reel the day I got let-go from One Life to Live. So, I kind of just had to choose, and I went “Eeny meeny, miny, moe.” The stuff I felt really good about was the material in 2010. You know, Scott Evans and Brett Claywell were let-go the same day I was. However, I did like the storyline though with Stacy and Kim, and Farah, and that I got to interact with those people. It’s kind of self serving, and was great for me, and everyone else was having to wait around for awhile for their part of the story to play out. (Laughs)” Clifton then commented on his new role on B&B that debuts in July! “I auditioned like everybody else, and when I auditioned I went, “Oh my Gosh. I know who you are!” and there was Brad Bell… who was nice and gracious. Then I did that read, and then did a chemistry read with Jacqueline Macinnes Wood (Steffy), and then they told me I had the job I can tell you my character is not a bad guy, and his name is Liam Cooper. He is a tech guy and computer nerd. I don’t know much about this character, but I know Brad Bell had plans for him.”
GH Lead Actress nominee, and now star of B&B, Sarah Brown, was getting revved up for Emmy night Vegas-style ! “I am a little nervous I will be honest. It’s an interesting feeling knowing the decision has been made, so there is no reason to be nervous, and there is no way I can change those results, (as the winners was chosen at that time a few months ago). Wait till you see what I am wearing to the Emmys its gorgeous, that is all I am going to say!”
Stacy Haiduk fresh off being not resigned by The Young and the Restless, and getting a new gig in September on Days of our Lives, talked about the shocking off-camera twist that leaves Emily and Patty out of the Genoa City bigger picture. “I was really disappointment and saddened, but I said to myself to stay positive because I know my work will stand. I always hope you do good work and they love you. I did not know they were going to wrap up Emily’s storyline, and it was a shock when I found out. It was like somebody throwing cold water in your face. My husband was upset. He does not like seeing his wife get hurt, and it was hard for him, and he is my rock. Michael Muhney just said, “ I told ya you get another job.” It’s all good, you will see me over at DAYS as a Prison Warden! I don’t know anymore about the character at this point.”
Shawn Christian of Days of our Lives, was excited for his fellow castmate, Crystal Chappell’s, Lead Actress nod, and working with her on Venice! “I don’t know what Crystal has up her sleeve, but I am actually really excited to work on this project with her. I see how hard she works on the Venice everyday. That woman works tirelessly and I am go glad to be in it. And it would be amazing if Crystal won the Emmy. I saw the reels and she had a profound moment in it.”
AMC’s, Ricky Paull Goldin, a nominee for Supporting Actor chatted about the diversity and the competition in his category. “From my experience long doesn’t always win, (laughs) but I love Billy Miller, and it’s a hard category to get a nomination in. That is what I have been told a million times, and I guess that is true. I will tell you what… when you are an actor who cares about your craft, whatever happens; it was nice to get the nominated. ”
Make sure to watch the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on CBS on Sunday night at 9PMEST for a two-hour Vegas meets soap spectacular.
