62 February 27th, 2013 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Acting Pre-Nominations Announced! Who Made It Into The Next Round?

Courtesy/NATAS

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences  (NATAS)  in  cooperation  with  the  Academy  of  Television  Arts  & Sciences (ATAS), today announced the Drama Performer Pre-Nominations for the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards.

A ballot containing a full list of entrants in each of four performer categories was sent to registered, eligible peer judges.  The ballot contained an unrevealed and randomized order of performers in each category, regardless of their show affiliation. Judges were required to view clips containing the work of each performer entry before selecting their top 10 performer choices in each category. The judges sent their ballots directly to Lutz & Carr, an independent accounting firm, who tabulated the results.  The Lead Actress category contains 11 pre- nominated performers due to a tie. The candidates below who received the highest number of votes now advance to the blue ribbon at-home screening round, scheduled to begin on March 27th, 2013, which will determine both nominees and recipients.  This year due to the number of entrants in the Younger Actress and Younger Actor categories for Drama Series Performers age 25 or under, there was no pre-nomination round necessary, so the 9 entrants in each of those categories will advance to the Blue Ribbon round as entrants and are also revealed in this release.

I proud for james reynolds , michael muhney, doug davidson, chandler massey , camilla banus, katherine kelly lang, roger howarth, peter porte, greg vaughan, and many more. I wish deidre hall would have made it to.

  6. Iakovos says:

Here’s something: Wouldn’t you consider Chandler Massey as Will Horton a leading actor. His storyline on DAYS was front burner and affected so many others. If that Q girl (I cannot recall proper spelling) can be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar at age 9 — and she was mighty good in BEASTSOF THE SOUTHERN WILD — could the Daytime Emmys find a way to honnor its younger actors outside a specialty category? I would make the same argument for Jacqueline MacInnes Wood in the category.

I am guessing OLTL’s brief 2012 time on the air is not being considered, a shame really as I think judges look at only what they see in these tapes, and not at a full year’s performances anyway.

I agree about Chandler. He is about as LEADING as Leading gets on Days!! He’s frigging awesome. He shouldn’t be in the younger category; that guy can walk circles around half of daytime. Love him.

I’m sorry but the Days categories are so stupid,
really, Peggy McCay, James Reynolds & Bryan Dattilo have
not done anything extraordinary to be nominated. And the same
for Rebecca Herbst who has barely had a storyline all year on GH.

I agree with you, but arianne zucker, shawn christian and freddie smith did very well. There was lot of actors who should have submitted for the all the shows but did not. Examples: james scott , renee jones, alison sweeney, genie francis, elieen davidsion, ian buchanan, melissia reeves, nathin bulter, jane elliot, and many more

    Ces replied

Agree about Chandler all the way! The guy is an awesome talent and should win again this year by a landslide.
I’m still not feeling James Reynolds. Been watching him for years on the show and although he had some good stuff with Lexie at the end, it was just oK in my book, not emmy worthy.

Not one OLTLer? I thought his high and fabulous Nelson Branco said Kassie DePaiva submitted herself from both GH (in supporting) and OLTL (in lead)? And didn’t he say someone else from OLTL submitted them self….whoever that was? Anyway…..

Glad to see Ari Zuker submitted herself! Was afraid she wouldn’t but she clearly deserved it for the work she did when she lost her baby. Sad that Eileen Davidson, Ali Sweeney Dierdre Hall or James Scott put their names in the running. They all seemed to have no more faith left in the system.

I don’t know why Doug Davidson put his name in lead again. He had such good work, but next to Jason Thompson (who also put himself in lead for some reason???) he’s bound to lose. Obviously he didn’t know Jason would, but I still don’t see his role from last year’s work as lead material.

    Otherwise, pretty predictable.
The younger categories are pretty much every younger actor working.

And by “Sad that Eileen Davidson, Ali Sweeney Dierdre Hall or James Scott put their names in the running”, I meant DIDN’T put their names. Der!

Also want to add since another poster reminded me, happy Greg Vaughan went for it and put his name in. Sure he really only had that one episode with Nicole, but why not? If others (who will remain nameless) can put their names in there, why can’t he?

    LOL… thats funny!

you know…. despite what “critics” and “Fan” appeal….. and I mean… the DID storyline….

Kelly Sullivan … manages to reel me in… and i’m committed to her character… and her acting choices…. a lot of this is thanks to the writing as well… and Kelly Sullivan brings to life a two character part that… is still working it…. hey! Connie made a friend…. Tracy… who’d a thought…. I believed Sonny “falling” for Connie… ok.. he’s missing Kate….

watching her lately… as Kate…. now dealing with the death of her son was hurt all over again…. even knowing it was coming… didn’t lessen the blow of seeing a mother’s loss. Oye! tears and riveting…. see? i still love that she has her cousin Olivia to feel their pain… and lean on…

when Connie was on the witness stand for Krystina’s attempted “murder” of connie…. it was Connie’s take on her and Krystina struggling with the same necklace that Trey wore… that had me in tears…. the nuanced delivery of KS… performances as both… connie and kate are to be commended….

    ie: I think the writers know… what a gem they have in Kelly Sullivan… and i’m glad… she’s a keeper newbie….

I really, really, hope that Katherine Kelly Lang makes it to the final nomination list. She has been robbed of a nomination for so long that it’s high time she gets recognized for her phenomenal work as Brooke.

One of the younger actor nods would definitely be chandler massey’s bec he portrays a gay char and bec of the political nature of awards shows. hollywood wouldn’t ignore a gay role especially one portrayed by a white actor bec those roles get tv shows a lot of publicity from entertainment pressa dne even mainstream manhattan media. chandler might not be the “winner” but he’ll most probably get a nomination bec of hollywood’s political beliefs. lgbt chars who are white definitely get priority treatment as compared to chars of color. 1603 was when shakespeare wrote a central black char! But it took downton abbey til season 4 to create a black char. Hilarious! And they’re casting only 1 black char on downton bec racial minorities are never the priority for hollywood. But of course thomas was revealed to be gay immediately when he hit on the turkish char and he even had his coming out episode w/ mrs. hughes being his straight ally. lgbt chars who are white must be represented while yet another show lacks racial diversity bec hollywood hates racial minorities. The racial relation storyline from downtonw would most probably follow hollywood’s typical racial storyline format w/c is abt the good white chars helping the black chars. That’s the kind of racial storylines hollywood loves. it’s bec white people must be portrayed as “progressive” and not as racists bec hollywood wouldn’t be comfortable w/ that. Only “white savior” movies and tv shows from tolerant hollywood.

The new char is named jack ross. Is he even going to be romantically paired w/ any of downton’s central chars who are all white? downton should have cast indian chars! But hollywood is not good w/ writing racial minorities and abbey could probably only write only 1 char of color! hollywood writers can write for vampires and aliens portrayed by white actors but writing for people of color is difficult! Perhaps downton would even ignore racial relations w/ jack ross. mad men creator matt weiner: “1965 is early for the civil rights era!” hilarious! mad men deals w/ anti semitism and female oppression and of course lgbt issues w/ the closeted char being portrayed by an openly gay actor. but no racism storylines right? And yet mad men keeps getting hype from the entertainment press while still garnering such low ratings. Typical hollywood would rather have all white casts than create more opportunities for racial minority actors. nbc is flopping and their tv shows have majority white casts. nbc’s smash is down to 3 million total viewers and .9 for its 18-49 demo. And this is after smash fired its 2 racial minority male cast members! smash is one of the most expensive tv shows w/ a budget of 4 million per episode. smash is being rejected bec its cast is majority white despite being ny based. Yet another ny based tv show from hollywood lacks racial diversity. NBC still lacks racial diversity and nbc is now lower rated than latino american channel Univision! hollywood only prioritizes white chars who are majority leading chars and of course lgbt chars who are white. but hollywood never prioritizes racial diversity.

Kelly Sullivan should get the Lead Actress award hands down. That lady has had an incredible storyline, and she hit it out of the park. I’ll be disappointed if she doesn’t win.

Jacqueline MacInnes-Wood is in the wrong category. She should be in the Lead or Supporting since her work is at that level. Young Actress/Actor should be a 12-18 year old.

Robin Mattson and Peter Porte wins would be fabulous. Both were simply awesome last year.

A lot of the names in those categories shouldn’t be there, because they had no story and were seldom on screen.
