96 February 13th, 2013 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Lead Actor Category Revealed! Who Should Make It Into The Pre-Noms Round?

Courtesy/NATAS

The 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Pre-Nomination voting is underway and now the acting nominees vying for the ten spots in each of the four performer categories have been revealed.  The Young and the Restless’ Michael Muhney (Adam) took to Twitter earlier this week explaining the voting process to his fans and followers, and posted a list of the actors who submitted themselves for the Lead Actor category, which includes Muhney.

Take a look at the men who have a shot at moving on to the next round of competition.  There are thirteen actors who opted to submit themselves for the coveted Leading Actor prize. If you are looking for scene selection, you can purchase a copy of Nelson Branco’s Soap Opera Uncensored who leaked the submitted clips. The 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Pre-Nominations will be announced by NATAS on February 27th.

Lead Actor In A Drama Series Ballot includes:

Don Diamont (Bill Spencer,  The Bold And The Beautiful)
John McCook (Eric Forrester, The  Bold And The Beautiful)
Ronn Moss (Ridge Forrester, The Bold And The Beautiful)
Galen Gering (Rafe Hernandez, Days of our Lives)
Joseph Mascolo (Stefano DiMera, Days of our Lives)
Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos, General Hospital)
Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake, General Hospital)
Roger Howarth (Todd Manning, One Life to Live)
Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott, The Young and the Restless)
Doug Davidson (Paul Williams, The Young and the Restless)
Christian LeBlanc (Michael Baldwin, The Young and the Restless)
Michael Muhney (Adam Newman, The Young and the Restless)
Steven Nichols (Tucker McCall, The Young and the Restless)

So soapers, who would you like to see move on to the next round, and ultimately to win Leading Actor in a Drama Series at this year’s Daytime Emmy?  Let us know! And make sure to come back Thursday and Friday as we spotlight the Supporting Actress and Actor submissions, as well.

Some actors have delusions of grandeur when they get to nominate themselves. I like Jason Thompson but he has no chance of winning the lead actor. He would have been smarter to nominate himself for supporting actor. I don’t see how Christian Le Blanc could think he belongs here either. He is a great actor but they give him hardly anything to work with at all. Galen Gering has no chance either.

Jason Thompson for sure. His work during the storyline around Robin’s “death” was simply amazing. I’ve always thought he was a good actor, but this was really the first time he was ever given material that allowed him to show his full range as an actor, and he knocked the ball out of the park.

At this stage, it is more of who won’t make the next cut than who could win.

I hazard to guess that Nichols, Diamont, and Gering may not make it to the next round. Moss could be in there, too, but the voters may want to recgonize the retired Ridge as one of the “core four” and 25 years on B&B.

  8. Kristen says:

Stephen Nichols! He was wonderful during the Victor-isn’t-dead-after-all storyline, when Tucker coached and coaxed Sharon into staking her claim to NE, and then almost married her to take over Newman Enterprises. So manipulative and yummy.

I love Tony Geary, and he deserves all of the seven Emmys he’s won in the past. But he had a pretty quiet year, and I don’t remember him doing anything particularly Emmy worthy in 2012. Seems like he realized that too, and decided to step aside and let some others have their chance this year, which I respect him greatly for.

    Dan – and i agree…. this isn’t necessarily sour grapes…

but, it leaves one with the obvious impression…. that lil’ stories are written for said Actors/STARS? to get nominated… ie: Tony Geary… 7 is enough.

overall, body of work… throughout the whole year… Jason Thompson delivered…whether we LOVED the story… ie: Robin… and/or now… with Sabrina… and I still watch him.

    jim replied

Totally agree about Jason. A definete win had he been nominated under supporting actor. Tonys always great but i like to see someone else get it for a change otherwise these emmys become predictable. I feel Tony should recieve a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding work in daytime for Bright Promise where he began and for all the years he spent on GH. Thats if they have such an award, and if not they should have one for all daytime performers who have long been part of the soap scene.

I like Days but neither of these two should be in the same stratosphere as Jason Thompson.

    Roger Howarth was good.

Nominating these two Is a slap in the face to all the others. Any of them could and would deserve the emmy. How about they give the emmy to someone who deserves it. JASON THOMPSON – I’ve said so much…. from the heart…. he ripped it out and then some. “Fan Poster RAE” – said it even better…. “I drowned in my Tears”… It’s top drawer on what Serials are all about.

MICHAEL MUHNEY – He’s a man’s man and HEARTthrob…. He’s so sincere in caring about this genre and making it work. What’s not to like about him…. I’ve always liked him w/Sharon. Love those guys from Young and Restless. Michael Muhney should win. He is actually the only Lead actor in my opionion. He brings it all year long. Whatever his storyline.
Doug Davidson (Paul) is an excellent actor and he did a good job with his son Ricky. But he is very seldom on and so is Christian Leblanc. Good actors when they have a good storyline but you cannot beat the raw emotion that Michael Muhney displays throughout every story. Michael Muhney makes me laugh and then he brings tears to my eyes. Fighting with Chelsea was just like they were really going at it. So Real. His facial expressions just leave me on edge. I just want to reach into my tv screen and give him a hug. Sometimes he makes me want to reach in there and slap him. He is one wonderful, good looking actor. Just love to see him on my t.v. screen. Him and Sharon Case acting opposite each other are pure golden. Best chemistry between a couple that has ever been on daytime tv . They sizzle together. Michael can sizzle just by himself. he is just that good of an actor. I love him with Eric Braden. They both compliment each other. They bring out each others acting skills. He is definitely Victor Newman Jr. Just like his daddy only more sexy. I love Y&R. The best Soap on tv. and has been for over 26 years and it will continue to be #1.
Steven Nichols should not be in this category. A definite No.
