Five well-known actresses to daytime audience are competing in this year’s 43rd Annual Daytime Emmys to be handed out by NATAS in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Digital Daytime Drama Series. They are: Mary Beth Evans (Sara) The Bay, Kathleen Gati (Valentina) Winterthorne, Elizabeth Hubbard (Eva) Anacostia, Lilly Melgar (Janice) The Bay, and Patsy Pease (Lola) The Bay.
Of these five only Hubbard, Evans, and Melgar have previously won Emmys. The iconic Hubbard, the former star of The Doctors and As the World Turns, took home the gold in the Lead Actress category in the very first Daytime Emmys back in 1974 for her role as Althea Davis on The Doctors, and then again for a daytime special in the role of Edith Wilson in First Ladies’ Diaries.
As for Mary Beth Evans, she has the distinction of being nominated three times at the 43rd Daytime Emmys: Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Kayla on Days of our Lives, producer for The Bay (nominated again for Outstanding Digital Drama Series), and this category for her performance in front of the camera on The Bay. Last year, Evans and Melgar received an Emmy for their work behind the scenes as producers of The Bay, which won in the Digital Drama Series category.
