26 April 17th, 2016 43rd Daytime Emmys: Watch Outstanding Actress In A Digital Daytime Drama Series Nominated Performances!

Five well-known actresses to daytime audience are competing in this year’s 43rd Annual Daytime Emmys to be handed out by NATAS in the category of Outstanding Actress in a Digital Daytime Drama Series.  They are: Mary Beth Evans (Sara) The Bay, Kathleen Gati (Valentina) Winterthorne, Elizabeth Hubbard (Eva) Anacostia, Lilly Melgar (Janice) The Bay, and Patsy Pease (Lola) The Bay.

Of these five only Hubbard, Evans, and Melgar have previously won Emmys.  The iconic Hubbard, the former star of The Doctors and As the World Turns, took home the gold in the Lead Actress category in the very first Daytime Emmys back in 1974 for her role as Althea Davis on The Doctors, and then again for a daytime special in the role of Edith Wilson in First Ladies’ Diaries.

As for Mary Beth Evans, she has the distinction of being nominated three times at the 43rd Daytime Emmys: Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work as Kayla on Days of our Lives, producer for The Bay (nominated again for Outstanding Digital Drama Series), and this category for her performance in front of the camera on The Bay. Last year, Evans and Melgar received an Emmy for their work behind the scenes as producers of The Bay, which won in the Digital Drama Series category.

Quite frankly any program that has Elizabeth Hubbard in it is a winner. All the rest of the actresses nominated here are decent. Mary Beth Evans is a solid actress. She has done many projects and is a talented lady but there is something that is never quite convincing. Just a step away in my opinion. Lilly Melgar was a little over the top but I guess not seeing her character in full makes it hard to determine if there was adequate buildup to her breakdown from the attack. Kathleen Gati is one of my favorites on GH and she was good in this role but Martha Madison destroyed the solid work of Kathleen. Her appreciation in this business escapes me but to each his own I suppose. Patsy Pease in this role was just not convincing. I felt more like laughing that trying to maintain the interest. Elizabeth Hubbard is queen of whatever she does. The sign of a great actress is how solid she is in whatever role she takes on. She was at home with Martha Byrne that was obvious and somehow she just works magic with whatever acting food she chooses to eat. Go get it Elizabeth, you are the grand dame.

Saw your comment about feeling Lilly Melgar’s performance was a little over the top. Your entitled to your opinion as Iam and I’m no way trying to disrespect you ( just educate), However having a daughter that was sexually assaulted and due to working in mental health care for many, many years with women who have been rapped… There is nothing over the top here and is one of the most believable& realistic protrayal of someone (and what they go through
) after being rapped!! For me, What is over the top would be someone marrying or getting involved with their rapist..( Don’t get me wrong, those 2 became the super couple in daytime history and the other 2 got together years later as a couple, never married)but for my daughter and other survivors would tell you that it’s not over the top and that The Bay got it exactly right to what one goes through!!!

Again I mean no disrespect with my response!!! Being an advocate and have worked with survivors of rape ( employed by my State working in a Mental Health Institution) I have seen this very type of response ( and sometimes worse) for those who come there and need our help.
    Sincerely,
    Melissa

“Adequate build up to her attack”? Watching her get punched, raped and completely beaten up was not adequate enough for you? “A little over the top”? WOW.

I did say over the top and I stand by that comment. I also stated that I hadn’t seen her character in full to make the conclusion as to what led up to her attack response. In my opinion, the one character who handled the topic of rape in the most excellent way was Margo Hughes from As The World Turns. It was the grittiest and most honest reaction to the horrific act of rape. Wow, I am surprised that people react so strongly to my saying that this actress overacted. I believe she did. I am moving on.

Here, here, su0000….It’s long past time for the awesome Miss Gati to be awarded Emmy gold, and whilst I’d strongly prefer it to be for her mirthfully menacing Mutter on GH, her performance as Valentina Winterthorne will simply have to do for now!

wow! her death scene was riveting!! the Lady dies awesomely !
Kathleen Gati is indeed the best of the best !

Absolutely, su0000…and CeeCee! Kathleen Gati is an exceptional talent, no matter (or is it, “Mutter?”) the role! Whether as Valentina or Dr. O, the lady delivers! Her recent GH scenes with Finn have been a real treat….we must see more of this magnificent actress throwing her shade around Port Charles….so that her next Emmy nomination will be for her Liesl!

I almost thought Finn was going to grab Mudder and plant a big kiss on her when she threatened him on Tuesdays show. Michael Easton has really impressed me so far with this new character. I hated Silas!

Elizabeth Hubbard… bar none… besides the “Snyders” she was the “real” reason I watched “As the World Turns”

for whatever reason… I just adore Margos Mother… Lyla and her aunt Maggie

posts… chat up… just how convincing… Nikki (and Sue Ellen) and even Catherine are as “drunks”

Maggie always knocked me out… when she’d drink… and the “talks” she’d have with Margo.. then played by Margaret Collin….

    ATWT… my fave

I really want Patsy Pease “for the WIN” and it’s ALL sentimental… I LOVE Kimberly Brady Donovan… DAYS needs to bring her back

I AM already imagining… TWO DAYS celebration… between Mary Beth Evans… and Patsy Pease FOR THE WINS

this is a huge year for DAYS women !

tie it already… with Kassie DePaiva and Mary Beth
and Patsy Pease as best lead… for digital

Kathleen Gati, GH Dr. O… she is still a constant DELIGHT… it’s sublime mention to see her being acknowledged…

Lilly Melgar… I do not… really know her work…but know she made a big splash on GH
plus I think she has a presence.. that resonates

I don’t think you need to know Lilly Melgar’s work to KNOW that this performance is sheer brilliance. I agree with her presence. Have always loved her but had no idea what a truly powerful talent she is. Even if I didn’t know her at all it would be clear that this performance outweighs all others. It’s so raw and broke me. I love all the nominees but this performance is just too powerful not to win.

Lilly Melgar hands down! Her portrayal of a post rape victim is not only heartwrenching but authentic. She’s mesmerizing as she breaks me. The multitude of emotions she goes through seemlessly is unlike any performance I’ve ever seen in anything daytime related. All these ladies are incredibly talented but Lilly’s performance is on a whole other level. This is her well deserved win.

All the nominations are great!!! My pick is Lilly Melgar!! Her acting is so phenomenal ( so realistic) that my daughter who is a survivor of sexual assault had said to me, ” I have never seen a show or actress get it so right” I have experience these things myself but didn’t know how or if I should have told anyone out of fear of being judged or have yet another label”Now Crazy” My daughter continued on by saying even though mom I told you a lot, You never knew how many times I broke down and cried, how I would hide in my room and started to drink my pain away, & people not believing me or harassed me( she was 14 at the time of her assault) Thanks to This storyline and Lilly Melgar’s phenomenal acting, It had lifted a huge weight off my daughter that she felt she had to keep a secret for so many years..

Amazing what a compelling storyline and brilliant work can do. For a sexual assault survivor to say that and for it to help her share her own pain. Thank you for sharing.

Lilly Melgar. I am shaken to my core by her gripping, compelling and raw performance. I’ve always loved her. She has a strong screen presence and movie star beauty but I had no idea she was this powerful of an actress. There’s not many actresses that are willing to go this place. BRAVO LILLY! I am shaken to my core. No disrespect to the other actresses as I respect them all but this is Lilly’s win. This is Jodie Foster in The Accused brilliance. I am in awe.

Lilly deserves the gold. It is beyond me how anyone could rape another person and it is so beyond me to ask someone to portray a victim. She was phenomenal. This clip was from a digital series. Wow, what I have been missing! I discounted theses online soaps. My blow! If this is what you get, this clip here is better than most content I’ve seen from any of the four TV soaps, this year!
