46 April 12th, 2016 43rd Daytime Emmys: Will B&B, DAYS, GH, or Y&R Win Outstanding Drama Series? Find Out What Episodes They Submitted!

The 43rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences on Sunday May 1st.   The biggest award of the night is always which soap opera will win for Outstanding Drama Series.  This year all four daytime dramas have made it to the final round.

In the rules for the Drama Series category each hour-long drama submits two episodes.  However, because B&B is only a half hour, they can submit four episodes for contention, which gives them roughly the same amount of total airtime for judging.

Below we can reveal the episode numbers and airdates and main storyline points contained within their submissions.  Read on to find out what your favorite soaps chose to represent themselves in the competion.

The Bold and the Beautiful: episodes#7079  & #7080 airdates 5/18 and 5/19/2015, and episodes #7138 & #7139 airdates: 8/10 & 8/11/2015

Unlike the hour soaps, because B&B is only a half hour, they can submit four episodes for contention which gives them roughly the same amount of total airtime for judging.  For their first submission, B&B chose the episode where Maya discloses her truth to Rick … that she is transgender.  Waiting for him to walk out on her, he does the opposite and tells her he loves her.  Meanwhile, Bill is ready to make a tabloid spectacle out of finding out Maya was born a man.  In their second submission, it’s Maya’s wedding day to Rick, and Julius and Maya have it out in front of the wedding party in what was to be the happiest day of her life, as Maya’s father refuses to accept Maya for who she is.

Days of our Lives:  episodes #12733 airdate: 12/08/2015, and #12712 airdate: 11/5/2015

For their daytime drama submissions, Days of our Lives chose the episode where after Abigail’s harrowing experience with serial killer Ben, she is face-to-face with him at the Salem police station in the interrogation room, desperately trying to find out where he took her newborn son.  Ben, who has been arrested, has clearly had a break from reality at this point.  Abby tells the police the reason Ben killed so many loved ones in Salem. Meanwhile, Hope has kidnapped Dr. Malcolm in hopes of getting information on who is responsible for Bo’s capture which led him to his ultimate death.   In the second episode: it’s the Salem bicentennial celebration at the Martin mansion, and following Aiden and Hope’s wedding.  Caroline is in the hospital pleading with Kayla to realize that she did receive a call from Bo.  Meanwhile, Bo and Steve finally make it back to Salem, only to find out that Hope just married Aiden.  Meanwhile, as Hope and Aiden spend the night together as newlyweds, and as the bicentennial celebration fireworks bring everyone closer together, Aiden is planning on murdering his bride.

General Hospital:  episodes #13274 airdate: 4/01/2015, and #13458 airdate: 12/22/2015

For their daytime drama series submissions, General Hospital went with the black and white, to color 52nd anniversary episode which reveals the truth of Luke Spencer’s childhood. Luke comes to the long-buried truth that he is responsible for the deaths of his mother Lena, and his despicable father Tim Spencer.  For their second reel, GH chose the Nutcracker gala drama which featured several stories including:  Nikolas and Jason’s fight in which Nikolas goes over the balcony, Patrick finally seeing Robin and rescuing her from Jerry Jaks, Sabrina telling Michael that Carlos is her baby’s father, and Sam revealing to Jason she broke her engagement off with Patrick, and Elizabeth realizing she lost the man she loved due to her deception.

The Young and the Restless: episodes #10768 airedate: 10/05/2015,  and #10769 airdate: 10/06/2015

In their submission with back-to-back episodes, Y&R chose the fallout of the Adam reveal with Chelsea telling Billy and Victoria. … Gabriel Bingham is Adam.  Meanwhile, Phyllis is telling Victor and Jack that Gabriel is Adam, as news spreads in Genoa City that Adam is indeed alive.  However, Jack has known for quite some time!  At the Underground, Sage admits her part in her scheme with Gabriel/Adam cover-up to Nick. Adam then had a confrontation with Billy, and then Victor shows up and punches Adam.  In the pickup episode: Adam and Victor finally have their long-awaited moment that has been brewing for over a year.  At Delia’s roadside memorial, Billy talks to his beloved daughter about Adam and that he swears to make him pay. Victoria arrives and assures Billy there will be justice.

Highly doubt it Joe, Y&R didn’t have a good “year” even with the plane crash among everything else I don’t see them take it this year, Days or GH on the other Hnad have it in the Bag. PRatt doesn’t need to win or JFP

All that will be judged is the episodes submitted. Nothing else in the year will matter at all.

  4. Tony says:

What was Days thinking?? They will never win with those episodes. There were so many other back to back episodes in the fall that were outstanding on all counts. Corday never learns. GH won’t win because the second pick is a shadow of the the quality of the first pick. It’s a race between BB and YR. And I think BB will get it this year because of the controversial story and how well it was done. YR should also win. I’d do a tie. GH Anniv episode should get a special award; it is in a class by itself.

YES ! I thought the same thing… WHAT there they thinking in choosing these eps

did they have to pick and choose around any and all violence??? was my only thought

    MORE to the POINT :

“…There were so many other back to back episodes in the fall that were outstanding on all counts. ”

I clearly “thought” DAYS had in in the bag… till I read their submissions last night

there is ONE ep… that I thought was so spot on… so well done so well crafted… and it was the scenes when Ben tells Clyde he did it…. all… and the sublime acting by James Read’ Clyde… (as he’s being taken to Florida for crimes )

it was a tour de force acting TREAT , just in awe of both James Reed and Rob Scott Wilson. this is just one

as for GH : meh? on the black and white EP… much ado about nothing… if it wins on just that alone… OK let’s have another tie…. GH and DAYS for the WINs

While the Fluke storyline is definitely not my favorite, the 52 Anniversary on GH would be my vote for it’s originality and ensemble cast.

Hands down: Maya disclosing to Rick she was a Transgender woman and Rick embracing her that he loves her. Bold and the beautiful.

2nd choice under Bold would be GH: Flashback to Luke being a child and accidently killing his mother. The balcony scene I don’t think was a strong scene. But the Patrick seeing once again Robin alive was a show stopping scene.

Days was the most consistent and deserves to win, but based on these reels I would pick B&B over GH. Days submitted poorly imo. GH has a great first episode but a too busy second one. All four of the B&B episodes are superb. Y&R chose odd episodes imo…. I def. think the two losing shows from last year are the likely winners this year, with the edge to B&B.

    Patrick replied

    yeah

no matter that my choices ; of course, DAYS for the WIN
GH because I watch the darned show… argh! i’ll go with @Rhonda for the gimmick… just knowing it’s a celebratory “laud” farewell to Anthony Geary… let’s be done with him

DAYS was so consistent driven and APB from all of last August throughout December. THIS WAS DAYS to lose… and for all intent… from the submitted eps… argh!

GH fans are lauding that black and white ep… i’d rather see GH win over Y&R

have to say…. since B&B can submit 4 shows… and for the content of transgender EQUALITY…. they have nothing to lose… and could be the winners

Y&R: whatever it takes…. no chance of win… unless the uber hottie and talented Justin Hartley is that affecting in these back to back eps.

    IT’S A TOSS UP …

GH may have just screwed themselves out of winning by not submitting the follow up episode to the 52nd anniversary show as their second submission. There were some amazing dramatic scenes with the Spencer siblings in Luke, Bobbie, and Patricia in their old family home. It also ended with a truly heartbreaking scene with Patricia passing away in her wheelchair and Val crying over her dead mother as Carly tried to console her. I can’t beleive they didn’t go with those back to to back episodes cause they would’ve been a lock to win. B&B is now probably gonna take it over GH.

Michael: I really hope it was a misprint by whoever released this info cause the 12/21/15 episode of GH which is #13458 was a filler episode and nothing happened other than Julian proposing to Alexis. It was the day after with the 12/22/15 episode of GH which is #13459 that lots of big stuff went down. I am talking about Patrick reuniting with Robin, Jason and Nik fighting on the balcony, Michael’s reaction to Sabrina’s confession, and Tracy ripping Paul a new one when she caught him with Ava. I really think if you had combined this very good episode in December with the truly great episode from April then it would’ve been a easy win for GH. I just really hope the The 52nd anniversary show is enough to carry them cause if that’s really what the submitted as their other episode then it’s gonna go to B&B.

    Hey Jay:
Very good catch – I spoke to a GH rep today and in fact the slate submitted for the reel was its original planned airdate of 12/21/15, BUT it was pre-empted and therefore it aired on 12/22/15, but the airdate #13458 remains the same.
    Best,
    Michael

Days episodes were good directing not overall drama series. I would pick the episode were bo save hope from aiden and the episode were bo dies in hope arms. It’s looks like B&B will win this one.

  16. 4ever DAYS says:

Although I liked those episodes, they weren’t the best DAYS episodes to submit. They should’ve submitted two episodes that aired back to back and it’s crazy to submit a second episode that originally aired before the first.

    Better luck next year, DAYS!

I sure hope Y&R doesn’t win. That will only encourage the writers to continue writing those horrible, boring storylines that make no sense. They have changed the characters so much that they are unrecognizable..

GH’s 50th Anniversary episode was great — it was Ron Carlivati — but the Nutcracker gala left much to be desired so I think the unevenness between the two episodes will tip the vote in Y&R’s favor.

I loved GH’s Anniversary episode, but I am not sure anyone can compete with what B&B submitted (and I am not a B&B fan!) I think what Days submitted was okay, but why not use the episode where Bo found out he was dying? I do think GH brought it over DAYS this year and I felt the exact opposite last year. I really want to see GH win, but my gut says it will go to B&B!

  22. Mary SF says:

Why didn’t Days go with the episodes where Bo dies– that scene with him dying in Hopes arms as the snow begins to fall were beautiful and more what the show is about than these other episodes– oh well. GH had to submit something with the new writers because if they won with just RC stuff that would be egg on their face because they fired him. Right now I am leaning towards B&B to take the category– those were all very strong episodes, but the Adam fall out is the type of story that has kept Y&R at number one for years, so it will be close but it should be CBS’s year one way or another

GH all the way! The 52nd Anniversary show was one of the best episodes they’ve done in a long time. The acting (Tony Geary, Joey Luthman as young Luke, whomever the actress was that played young Patricia, Laura Wright, Dee Wallace, such tremendous acting from top to bottom), the writing, the production with the black and white look, everything was top notch.

For the voters that might feel that episode was too gimmicky, they also submitted a solid episode from the J&S regime, which I think shows good balance and variety in the type of material presented.

Admittedly, I don’t watch any of the other soaps, but I feel this is GH’s award to lose.

Michael: Is there any chance we can get some polls set up listing all the nominees in the various categories, so we can see who the consensus picks are for each award? I think that would fun and informative.
