The nominations were announced Thursday morning for the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. During a live-stream by the Television Academy, major categories were revealed and then a complete list made available following it.  The awards will be handed out live on Fox on September 20th.

Primetime soaps were represented with a much-deserved nod to Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon for her performance in Empire in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Henson will go up against: Claire Danes Homeland, Viola Davis How to Get Away with Murder, Tatiana Maslany Orphan Black, Elisabeth Moss Mad Men, and Robin Wright House of Cards.

Downton Abbey will compete in the Outstanding Drama Series category facing-off with: Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men, and Orange Is the New Black. However, Empire which was the hottest show of last season was snubbed.

In other performing categories, “Downton” stars Jim Carter (Mr. Carson) and Joanne Froggatt (Anna) both received recognition for their work in the Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series fields, and former All My Children star, Finn Wittrock received a nomination for his work in American Horror Story: Freak Show! Wittrock will compete in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie category. Check out the complete list of nominations here!

So glad Taraji got nominated. I think Empire should have been nominated too, but oh well. Taraji totally deserves to win!

  2. Alan says:

Taraji is good but Tatiana Maslany deserves the award for her amazing portrayal of 7 — and counting — very different characters on ORPHAN BLACK.

EMPIRE is entertaining but its writing doesn’t come anywhere near the complexity and intelligence of THE AMERICANS which didn’t earn a Best Show nod. Best Show is about being the best, not the most popular.

The most disappointing thing is that THE AMERICANS didn’t earn nominations for Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

  3. robert says:

Much deserving nomination to Taraji P. Henson. Not overly surprised Empire got snubbed The voters don’t usually nominate pop culture, they look for shows much darker

  4. Timmm says:

    WOW, network TV is DEAD!

  5. janet says:

Downton Abbey is the highest rated show and it gets very little. WHAT ABOUT Fellows he made the show great , his ending on a high note is probably the way to go. I will miss the show. The emmy’s are a joke. Same people all the time. isn’t there any talent any where else, same old same old. That is why I don’t watch them.

    I totally agree with you!

Here, here, Janet! Downton was absolutely robbed! And what about Dame Maggie Smith? The fact that Dowager Countess Violet wasn’t nominated this year is a complete travesty….ditto for Michelle Dockery’s Lady Mary and Phyllis Logan’s Mrs. Hughes. These formidable ladies make the whole show for me!

  6. Jimh(leave it to beaver) says:

Downtown should win just for being tv’s classiest show…Eden, if you read this i miss our discusions…hope you’re well!!!
