The nominations were announced Thursday morning for the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. During a live-stream by the Television Academy, major categories were revealed and then a complete list made available following it. The awards will be handed out live on Fox on September 20th.
Primetime soaps were represented with a much-deserved nod to Taraji P. Henson as Cookie Lyon for her performance in Empire in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Henson will go up against: Claire Danes Homeland, Viola Davis How to Get Away with Murder, Tatiana Maslany Orphan Black, Elisabeth Moss Mad Men, and Robin Wright House of Cards.
Downton Abbey will compete in the Outstanding Drama Series category facing-off with: Better Call Saul, Game of Thrones, Homeland, House of Cards, Mad Men, and Orange Is the New Black. However, Empire which was the hottest show of last season was snubbed.
In other performing categories, “Downton” stars Jim Carter (Mr. Carson) and Joanne Froggatt (Anna) both received recognition for their work in the Outstanding Supporting Actor and Actress in a Drama Series fields, and former All My Children star, Finn Wittrock received a nomination for his work in American Horror Story: Freak Show! Wittrock will compete in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie category. Check out the complete list of nominations here!
