Equally impressive, he holds nominations in 1980, 1982, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2007 and 2009.”

For now, viewers can look back at the Luke/Fluke storyline here, and then starting next week, look for key moments in the story of Luke Spencer to appear on that page.

Not to rain on Tony’s parade…he is one of daytimes best actors and helped saved GH with the pairing of Luke and Laura but i think one who also deserves the same honors is Leslie C.(Monica) who started on GH before Tony and didnt quit at the peak of her popularity like Tony done…she has been part of GH for over 30 years and in the last few is treated like Nora Desmond!!!

Jim, I love Leslie but she hasnt had the staying power that Luke has had over the years. Tony has had a significant part in over three decades of stories, Leslie has not. Same with Laura, insatnt legend for what she did in the 80′s but she has fizzled theses past twenty years. Maybe not all her fault either.

    Les replied

If Leslie had been given the material over the years like was provided to Tony, it would be a different story. Really a shame that the Monica /Alan story was cut short by Alan’s unnecessary death. And part of Luke’s staying power is the result of Luke and Laura’s fan base and their hopes of seeing them reunited.

    Timmm replied

And yes it is a shame Leslie hasnt been getting any stories and that could have put her in a different league but look at all the adventures Luke has been on and all the characters tied to Lucas Lorenzo Spenser! Case in point, Luke and Helena. Pure gold together! Jim, also, it still makes me sick that they killed off Alan!

    lellingw replied

Leslie had some great stories and held up General Hospital with her Quartermaine family actors when Luke’s story lines were abysmal. Monica and Alan were hysterical at times, especially with Edward and Lila. Luke and Laura are a pair that needs to be honored as an entity. Luke was never very great without Laura and like General Hospital at those times basically was endured not great.

    Fanny replied

@Timmm…you make valid points, these actors R not to be compared
it would be a grave injustice to do so. Luke has repeatedly delivered
stellar performances throughout his tenure on the show.
“Case in point” Friday’s show, Luke and Lucky sitting on the “edge”
(Ledge) of the table discussing life….perfection. Forget the gold I’m
    going for PLATNIUM.

  2. Joe says:

The first time he saw Laura after her disappearance. She was walking across the grounds at the mayor’s mansion back in 1983 (I believe it was). That scene was classic!

that was so intense .. so beautiful… I still go watch that ever so often.. lately even more.. Thinking Of Laura

    Reply

    Harry replied

YES! Joe, that was as realistic of an reaction had this really occurred in real life.
So often with these back-from-the dead stories, I feel that the actors are not convincing with their reaction. Honestly, how could they be?
But Geary nailed it. It’s hard to watch his reaction to seeing his presumed dead Angle walking around the mayor’s lawn without choking up a little.

I remember the scene between Luke & Lucky at the dining table after Luke told him Stone had died. The 2 of them discussing life & death. I don’t know if it was scripted but that scene has stayed with me. It was so simple yet so strong.

Let’s leave the Fluke story in the trash can where it belongs. Cartini nearly ruined Luke like they’ve done every other iconic character on GH with their tongue in cheek lunacy.
And here’s an idea why not put Tony’s best moments on DVD for sale to fans. Greedy Disney/ABC could make a few bucks while honoring a legend. Can I get an amen ?

I would like to see General Hospital years 1978- 2002 on DVD. Earlier if possible. Best of DVDs just don’t capture the magic. Stories were often complementary to each other and they worked as interwoven stories. It would great if they were streamed. Right now many episodes and clips are on YouTube but the earliest have many missing gaps and often a fan was cam cording their TV set. Not very good quality but the show still cons through. Would love to see the Rick/Monica/Jeff love triangle which started the renaissance as well as the David Hamilton story. Scenes before the rape of Laura are spotty and they would be a find. Also the scenes after the rape leading up to the election are hard to find. One scene that both TG and GF agree was the time they knew Luke and Laura were in love was when Luke brought daisies to the hospital after she had been raped. Great scene, buzz bizarre scene. What do you say to a person who says they love you, they are going to die and brings you flowers after they’ve raped you? Not much apparently. Lol!

So many to choose from. Luke seeing a presumed dead Laura on the grounds of the governor’s lawn, Luke and Laura jumping out of the plane and riding the rapids after the Triple L escape, Luke pulling the plug on Lucky, the aftermath of Lucky “dying” in the fire, etc…

first of all, I am still SAD that Antony Geary will be departing the show. I am kind of hoping he returns for guest appearances someday!! Its so hard to imagine him out of the canvas.
I am glad though that Bobbie, Laura, and his Children continue on. My top 5 best moments are: Disco Days——Seeing Laura over the Balcony after she vanished and came back, the DVX—when Luke learned Natalia was an imposter——-when Laura woke up (some of Tony’s best acting)———–there are too many to mention.

Tony, you will be very missed. You are such a compelling presence on the show that is simply will not be the same.
It is impossible to say how compelling I have found your portrayal of Lucas Lorenzo Spencer. I have always been blown away by your talents. However, your acting while incarcerated, where you were switching from the dark to the light side of the character were something I’d NEVER seen another actor do, EVER! Looking into your eyes was beyond ANYTHING I’d ever seen! You were so real in those moments!
May you find the big screen and stage projects that will show those amazing skills to the fore and may you be ever happy and contented in your next chapter! Blessed Be!

  10. Ryan says:

Two moments stay with me; when Luke did what he could to comfort Bill Eckert as Eckert was dying (the mob mistook Bill for Luke, who was the real target). The pain, sadness and guilt that Mr. Geary displayed as he portrayed two different characters for seemingly the final time was one of the reasons for GH’s mid-1990s resurgence. Another one, a lesson that could be taught today was when Lucky got into trouble gambling and was in some deep debt. Luke wouldn’t bail Lucky out despite Lucky’s pleading and tears. He loved his son so much he wouldn’t enable him to continue the self-destructive behavior that Lucky’s gambling habit had become. Lucky had to bail himself out of the mess and he did through hard work and sacrifice. Really good stuff and I know there’s so much more that stands out but those stand out as I remember Mr. Geary’s tenure on GH.

My favorite moments are Wyndham’s Dept store,Beecher’s Corners, The Wedding of the decade and Laura telling Luke she was pregnant with Lucky.I could go on forever but there’s not enough space. I just Love him to death and only wish him the best.

I agree with you on all of this. I will never forget the wedding of the century, and Liz Taylor as Helena cassidine, cursing them on their wedding day. Scotty catching the bouquet of flowers. The adventures they went on . Princess Diana, sent them a very expensive bottle, of champagne on their wedding day. My place of work, shut down for one hour, on their wedding, and had a cake for them, while watching their wedding, food, wine. All over NY, people were shutting down an hour of work, while having mock weddings for Luke and Laura. I will never forget that, and since then, that has never happened on any soap wedding. I love luke, and will miss Anthony Geary so much. Please come back once in awhile Anthony Geary, and please keep Laura on GH

I can’t believe they never asked Rick Moses back. He even held his own when Luke and Laura were deadly boring on the Cassadine Island. Hutch and Robert even met once. Beautiful scene. I do think the disco added something to the show that was never regained. The music, the gossip, the fun and intrigue, everyone except Edward and Lila ended up there at sometime. Nothing like this current stiff standing around talking about inane stuff in ugly homes. The camera and boom moved around from couple to couple. Even with ugly apartments Luke and Laura’s ghetto apartments were hysterical. Luke always with Eggplant dark magenta apartment and suit and Laura with a lighter purplish pink apartment and dress, their only nice clothes. And ever present, the wicker loveseat that threatened the marriage of Scotty and Laura and Scotty had to use on his first anniversary to sleep on.

they would not be able to bring it to primetime..
All the slots are filled by ”sponsored” programming..
ABC has contracts with all the shows airtime, they have no room to bring it to promethium.. It would be as a special and one of the paying sponsors for their show to air would need new contracts etc, can’t be done..
but– it would be great ..

The scenes during the sticky door era when LnL lived in same apartment building. Laura in apartment #202 and Luke in apartment #302. Fun scenes. Lots of “jealous Luke” moments.

One of the great Luke and Laura scenes was What’s in the Box? No one should miss that. The rape of Laura was very important. Luke’s wedding day to Jennifer. The squeaky door scenes. A scene in the Versailles Room in which Luke and Alex dine with Laura and Robert in which Luke and Laura verbally spar. I’ve never seen Luke’s first scene with Laura in Pop’s.

  18. lellingw says:

What I meant in the above post was even though Luke’s and Laura’s apartments were ugly apartments on the Waterfront, the color coordination and creativity put into color made them interesting and part of the characters. Laura painted the apartments and Luke and Laura’s best clothes matched the walls. Purple or magenta is the color of royalty. There in the middle of Laura’s apartment was the wicker loveseat Laura and Scotty fought over on their wedding day, sitting smack dab in the apartment even though Scotty was long gone, his presence was there. With ugly bright green cushions.

The painting of the apartment, the sticky door (!), the beating on the pipes, etc.
So great a build up to the “second” love story of Luke and Laura, to the wedding.

Never got to see those scenes. There are several when Luke and Laura were getting to know each other and later after the rape that aren’t available to watch but there is a page with transcripts of those scenes. They are fantastic to read. Especially the one in which Luke and Laura actually talk about the rape for the first time. Would live to see.

So true. They kind of tolerate each other and hop right into bed. Watch the wedding night of Luke and Laura today. Besides the rape, they only had sex once before marriage. Luke asks her if she is nervous and she is about to say no but then says kind of and he says he’s nervous too. They go about it slowly and the next day he says that he can’t believe it took so long for them to get married (two years) and he thanks her for marrying him. She says she is so proud to be married to him and they decide they are glad they waited to get married before having “much” sex. Very touching and there is a heavy commitment there and it seems pretty realistic in dialog.

  24. Caitie says:

I would like to see some scenes with Tony and Julie Berman as Lulu. This is not a slight to Emme Rylan as the current portrayer. It’s just that most of Luke’s story with his adult daughter were told with Julie in the role. So, just as we have seen Tony with Jonathan Jackson as Lucky and Nathan Parsons as Ethan, I would love to complete the story of Luke as a father with some memorable moments with Julie’s Lulu.

Been disappointed in the lack of variety of the scenes they have posted. Most of them feature older Luke. Younger Luke scenes were priceless too and is when the magic was beginning. They shouldn’t claim to be showing decades worth of scenes if they aren’t showing all of the decades.

Tony seems to write those days off. I think he has a tendency to reject what is really good and popular at times. Like Groucho Marx, he wouldn’t want to belong to any club that would have him as a member. He always liked to imitate Groucho. He was heavily into cocaine use at the time and he might be able to see it more than others. I think he felt ugly and hated the hair though it was really popular at the time and really looked good. I think that the actors and staff were worked to death and could barely think about it. They left the show exhausted and were unable to think clearly.
