At this morning’s ABC Summer Press Tour, On-Air On-Soaps was in attendance as ABC Entertainment President Paul Lee addressed members of the media about the upcoming fall primetime season!

In regards to the two major primetime ABC soaps, Revenge and Nashville and what to expect, Lee had this to say …  for Revenge, he said the show had “stumbled a bit” in its second season, and that the new showrunner Sunil Nayar (who replaces Mike Kelley) will “bring to us a slightly less complicated” story structure in the upcoming season three.  In addition Lee added, “The first episode back is a fantastic episode starting with a magnificent hook.”

For Nashville, Lee revealed he loved the season finale car crash that put the lives of Rayna and Deacon in question calling the twist a “sweet cliffhanger.”   He also related that in the upcoming second season, they are really looking to Connie Britton as Rayna to “really drive plot.”    Plus, to look for the rivalry between Connie and Hayden Panettiere’s character of Juliette to come to a head.   The executive was also enthusiastic when he stated,  “We’ve only seen a couple of outlines and a script, but we’re really happy with it.”

So what do you think about the plans for Revenge and Nashville?  Think these changes will help the shows? What would you like to see happen in the upcoming season for these soapy dramas? Share your thoughts!

These two soaps don’t need any help they are awesome the way they are. Everytime ABC thinks they have a great idea they screw up the shows. Leave them alone. I wish they came on at 9:00pm instead of 10 here in the Eastern time zone so that I could watch them without DVR ing them. I love these shows too bad we have to wait a whole year to see them again.

I never saw Revenge as being complicated. Not at all.
Anyone who found Revenge as complicated perhaps have problems lol .
Looking forward to season 3 !!! it always has been in my top 5 ..

Nashville would be much better if only one song per show..
The songs are terrible and they all sound the same.
The singing could be much better too.
Less the soundtrack it would be a great series..

I do think Revenge got terrible. It strayed from the first season which was awesome. See in that case I say if it ain’t broken don’t fix. The whole intrigue crap is not what Revenge started out as. I hope it goes back to the basic family interactions and original people. The second season was pure crap.

As for Nashville, I do think Connie driving instead of Hayden is not bad idea. I like both and Hayden is awesome but tiring. I think even for her to keep it up she has to be supporting instead of lead. I guess I am liking the changes proposed.

I think the key problem is that REVENGE lost viewers last year and ABC’s focus groups said that people lost interest when they missed an episode or two and couldn’t keep up. I don’t watch the show, so I can’t speak to it, but I think he’s promising that ABC is going to respond to the criticisms that caused them to lose many of the non-dedicated fans last year.

Revenge is on HuLu and ABC.com..
there are many ways to watch.. and people are watching, no doubt of that..
People listen to other peoples opinions, and that includes critics, who are but one person with their personal opinion.
there is no reason that anyone has to miss 2 shows when they can catch up any time on Netflix or free HuLu .. some people just do not know how to work the internet and are not informed that all TV shows are also available online at any time, and they will be left behind/miss out .. lol :)

I don’t like that ABC is going to strive to make Revenge “less complicated.” Do I think that season 2 was better than season 1? No, but that can be said of most shows. The first part of season 2, the first ten episodes or so, were a bit mundane, but after the death of Amanda, it was FANTASTIC once again. The two hour finale was mindblowing. I just hope that they don’t dumb down Revenge too much because it is a wonderful, smart show with a lot of mystery and terrific plots and characters.

It totally lost it’s mojo, whenever I have to fast forward through a scene there’s a definite problem. Hopefully Nayar will keep me intrigued.

I think Revenge’s season 2 was too convoluted. It was hard to keep all the plots straight. So making it less complicated is a good thing.

Nashville doesn’t need much improvement, it kept getting better as the season went along. But I agree with su0000 above that fewer songs would be better.

Anyway, these two shows + Scandal are “must see TV” for me!

How abt less complicated and more racially diverse revenge? They definitely should have cast a racial minority actor to portray victoria’s long lost son. It would have tied a racial minority char to revenge’s canvas organically and it would have given much needed racial diversity to revenge considering that ashley madekwe isn’t even getting an exit storyline. But nope. How abt an Asian american char for revenge especially after how they killed off takeda by making a white char kill him off w/ a samurai weapon? While nashville of course is not very racially diverse considering how country music has never had prominent country artists who are people of color. Rap music is very problematic but it has become welcoming to white artists consdiering how eminem is its highest selling rapper and he’s white. Night dramas revenge and nashville have a lot to learn from scandal considering how scandal is only 1 of 2 dramas on its 2nd season where its ratings have become higher. Its bec of scandal’s storylines and kerry washington and bec of the racial diversity and its broad range of younger and older chars. Actresses who portray verna thornton is very entertaining w/ her gravely voice and regal presence even when bald. While actress who portrayed vp turned president definitely should have gotten emmy nominations and not dan bucatinsky. Of course hollywood cast a psychotic looking woman to portray vp considering how her char’s anti gay marriage and anti abortion. She should have gotten a nomination when her char was forcing verna to give her seat and retire. It’s too bad people didn’t nominate actress who portrayed vp probably bec of her char’s political beliefs. Night dramas revenge and nashville have a lot to learn from scandal’s older chars and scandal’s racial diversity w/c is above the norm for racial representation on typical hollywood tv shows. Scandal’s season 2 is 1 of braodcast tv season’s great successes while practically all white revenge season 2 is a disaster.
