ABC Famly soon-to-be rebranded as Freeform in 2016, has ordered a new mystery based soap opera entitled Guilt for series pick-up, which seems to have a very Amanda Knox-type story at its epicenter.

According to TV Line:Guilt follows a young American woman (played by The Syndicate‘s Daisy Head) in London who becomes the prime suspect in the savage murder of her roommate/best friend. As the investigation unfolds, viewers and even the girl’s own sister (Arrow‘s Katrina Law) will question whether she’s innocent or a sociopath. The mystery will weave through all levels of London society, from a posh but depraved sex club to the Royal family. Billy Zane (Titanic) co-stars as a cocky and cunning defense attorney.”

Guilt is a sexy, sophisticated event series whose European location feels bigger than anything we have ever done, said Freeform executive VP of programming and development, Karey Burke.

The soapy hourlong drama hails from writer-exec producerKathryn Price (The Game Plan) and Nichole Millard (The Game Plan). Former ABC Entertainment chief Steve McPherson will also serve as exec producer. Gary Fleder (Kingdom, Scorpion) will direct the pilot, which is a co-production of Sea to Sky Entertainment and BV Family Productions.

So will you be checking out Guilt?  Are you intrigued by the premise of the story?

Changing their name is not going to make them better, still not watching.

With the Amanda Knox-inspired mystery, and the fact that it’s set in Europe (large budget required), the series sounds like it’s meant for primetime; not daytime. Good thing they’re changing their brand because this series does not sound like something compatible with the ABC Family channel image. It’s more along the lines of DAMAGES-goes-international IMO. Sure, I’d watch it.

Is this a daily soap that runs every day at the same time or a prime time drama type of soap that runs once a week for a limited amount of time? Because when I hear the word soap opera I think daily, but the premise sounds more like a night time soap– if it is just another prime time show with soap qualities I will skip it, but if it was a true soap opera being on every day I might give a shot.

hi Mary SF.. (this was interesting-
I checked google for info on primetime soaps.
Primetime has no soaps lol they have on going ”series”
And- online has no soaps, they are called ”web series”..

Only daytime holds the ”soap opera” logo on continued series, mainly because of their production of daily episodes, the true soap opera format which makes them a traditional soap opera, not a series. go figure..

How about ABC rehiring some of the (fan) beloved actors that undeservedly lost their jobs when their daytime soaps were cancelled?
