I am sure we were all envisioning a day when One Life to Live is back on the airwaves, in our heart of hearts. But soap fans and viewers won’t be seeing that on ABC. First, audiences had to deal with the OLTL’s disastrous replacement, The Revolution, which in turn was canned by the network because of horrendous ratings. And now it is being replaced for the summer by the previously announced GMA in the Afternoon series. So today, ABC made it official with a press release with details about the summer series.
Here’s the info: “Beginning Monday, July 9, ABC News will air a one-hour extension of Good Morning America for nine weeks entitled Good Afternoon America. The program will be anchored by “GMA’s” Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer, with Sam Champion, Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos joining in with special appearances. The energetic, fast-paced program will feature the most-talked about celebrities, performances by the biggest names in the music industry, the latest pop culture news, plus original entertainment, lifestyle, health, workplace and consumer reporting from an all-star list of contributors and other members of the ABC family.
“It’s tremendous that ‘GMA’ has this opportunity to extend its reach and bring something new to the afternoons,” said co-anchor Josh Elliott. “It is gratifying to play a role in it, and we genuinely hope our audience will come along for the ride.” Co-anchor Lara Spencer added: “I am beyond excited and honored to be part of this new chapter for the Good Morning America family. Good Afternoon America gives us the opportunity to reach a different audience, and better yet, to spend a little more time with our morning viewers who want to be a part of the conversation and fun we plan on bringing to afternoon TV. Good Afternoon America will air from 2:00-3:00 p.m., ET and will be taped at “GMA’s” studio at the crossroads of the world, the heart of Times Square.”
All we can say soapers is make sure to keep watching General Hospital! We know many of your have read rumors on certain message boards, that there is some concern that an alternate plan in the works that could nix GH in the future to make way for Good Afternoon America. The point here is: if only ABC would have left OLTL on, GH would have had an appropriate lead-in. And point two, if GMA can be a better lead-in for GH, it should help their ratings, but will it give the suits other ideas? The jury is out! So what do you think about Good Afternoon America? Will you tune-in?
