37 October 5th, 2015 ABC Primetime Soap BLOOD & OIL Takes A Spill In Second Week!

ABC’s primetime soap, Blood & Oil starring Don Johnson and Chace Crawford took a spill in its second installment on Sunday night.  The drama series reminding some viewers of the iconic Dallas, did not fare as well losing a million viewers in its latest episode.

According to the overnight ratings:  the North Dakota oil drama dropped to a 1.2/3 ratings share and brought in 5.2 million viewers, which was down 14 percent in the key demo from its premiere, and almost 20 percent in total viewers.

However, the other new drama in the ABC Sunday evening block, Quantico was able to keep most of its audience in its second week scoring a 1.9 rating/6 share and 6.9 million total viewers, that is only a slight dip from its season premiere week, where the series  scored 7.1 million total viewers.

I watched it again. I love Don Johnson and would like to see him succeed but the storyline is old news – oil billionaire doesn’t get along with son, takes in someone and treats like his son. Stepmother doesn’t like kids and vice versa. Isn’t there any writer with a unique and new prospective to write about!!

This show has it’s moments. Some scenes are great (Hap) and some are awful (any scene with billy’s wife).

Sadly, it will tank and become one of the first fall casualties. Never had any interest in this DALLAS-wannabe…

Should have kept Dallas instead of trying to do a cheaper watered down version.

ABC should pick up Dallas as a summer series if this show does not make it.

I wanted to like this show, but in my opinion it’s a poor imitation of Dallas & Dynasty. The actors are talented. It’s just another case of poor story lines and poor writing.

Blood and oil was like a bad knock-off of Dallas.
All Dallas fans would be very disappointed if they were expecting a second Dallas.

I haven’t watched the latest episode I’m getting to it tonight or tomorrow night, whenever.
I am giving it 4 episodes before I know if I really like it, if not then I’m out.

But- some soap fans might continue to watch it even if they hate it ;) lol .. so there is hope.

I like this show and hope it does well. The only problem I have is that it’s on at the same time as the Good Wife which I’ve watched from the beginning. I DVR’d Good Wife so I could watch Blood and Oil.

    ABC-TV flops again as usual.
Create a night time soap based on the characters of ALL MY CHILDREN with
One Life to Live and call it Pine Valley (or simply call it LANDVIEW) and maybe they’ll have something.
Why didn’t they ever pick up DEVIOUS MAIDS? That went to Lifetime.
Whoever is doing the Programming at ABC-TV is asleep at the switch.

I watched the first episode on demand. Meh. Looks like it needs more time to bake.

Very generic cast. What made Empire so enjoyable right out of the gate was it had a great cast that each claimed their own unique space. Unique and B&O don’t seem to belong in the same sentence.

It’s just kind of boring. The Dallas reboot was better and had more interesting characters. They should have just brought an old soap back like “Dynasty” or even “Dallas.”

No, I didn’t catch or watch the Dallas spinoff Blood And Oil,and refuse to watch anything that replaces our soaps, because I’m a boycotter of Disney/ABC TV, since they cancelled AMC and OLTL, and only watch 1hr. for GH ONLY! ABC is in danger of becoming extinct if they don’t get right by us fans and bring back Love In The Afternoon. And stop with these replacement shows knowing they’re going to continue to fail,,,because of our boycott.

You tell ‘em! ABC Execs need to know that the fans are still pretty P’ off at what they did – they should NEVER have given the Axe to One Life to Live and All My Children, without at least experimenting with the possibility of combining the two shows into one, both created by Angus Nixon and both in “towns” near each other in PA, namely Pine Valley and Landview.
We should give them a Whoopi Goldberg character line “Until you do right by us, everything you touch is gonna fail!” (from The Color Purple).

I watch the first showing and I thought really we lost REVENGE to this show, it’s boring, boring, and awful. I told myself this show will not last long, ABC- whatcha thinking?
Revenge was so much better, and had a awesome cast.

This show is AWFUL, thank goodness for Quantico!

    I watched ep 2 ..
    I liked it..
It was up against the Cowboys game, airing at the same time.
also- The Good Wife and Madam Secretary..
Blood and Oil had some high compaction airing at same time..
Perhaps during the week many watch it online, on demand, hulu etc, .
can’t watch them all at the same time live.
    I liked it ..

I’ve watched both weeks and I’m not sure if I’ll continue. I like the lead actors, but so far the storyline hasn’t “grabbed me” and made this a “must see” show. I’ll give it one more week to catch on, but if it doesn’t, it’s adios!

Don probably was excited to do something different but he is best at being a cop. He is older now so maybe he is on a cop show and he is the chief now or commissioner. Send him out to Vegas to work. Theres enough glitz, glamour and crime!

I thought I wouldn’t care for it from ep 1
after watching ep 2, I like it, it held my attention.
I see it building into a good series.

there is ton a crapola on tv from the Kardashians to Housewives, and Blood and Oil is soooooo much better..
I’ll continue to watch. It may not be my favorite but it has promise, I liked it and will hold in and see where its’ going.

((it is not supposed to be as Dallas,, just because its oil and a rich family it still has nothing to do with Dallas.)) every oil family is not made to replace Dallas lol, it is what it is a ND oil boom town and its’ peoples. LOL :)

Don’t see a bit of Dallas yet, it’s a new primus to me.
That boring looking woman Johnson son is involved with , I was surprised Johnson’s character had history with her.

I love Blood/Oil!!!! It’s unfortunate however that the show is aired during the same time as CBS Sunday Night Foot Ball. The cast is great as is the story line…given a fair chance ( a different day/time slot) I think the show can and will hold it’s own.
Thank you, Don Johnson for coming home!!!

    Warmly,

Blood and Oil is just that. It has no connection to Dallas, or the Bush’s (smile). Give it a chance. Dallas is gone, and made it’s mark, this is so much better than watching Keeping up with Kim and her clan or Housewives. We know this is a series, where as the other shows are pitiful reality T.V. for the lonely at heart.

I agree with some of the comments that this show is like Dallas. It can ge a good show if a better storyline is developed. Get rid of Hap’s wife Carla cuz I cannot stand her character. She’s so stiff and every time she walks into a scene, she has this frozen expression on her face. I don’t understand the fascination of both Hap and Wicks over Jules Jackman “the slut” because she’s not worth fighting for. Just like Carla Briggs, I hate the character. She’s so dry and uninteresting.

Please bring in Haps first wife, Annie Briggs played by Lolita Davidovich. Sparks flew all over the place the first time they faced each other. Don and Lolita have great chemistry.
