Many members of the cast of All My Children attended and participated in the first ever AMC Fan Club Event and Gathering held in Los Angeles over the weekend. The event was held for the first time at the Sportsman’s Lodge, where many soap fan events have been held for various daytime dramas. As many know, since AMC was previously an east coast based show, the celebration was always held each year in the Big Apple. But now with the shows move to California, there was a whole new vibe. The cast was brought in one by one and introduced to the excited crowd. Later, they signed autographs and participated in one of the funniest Q&A sessions that On-Air On-Soaps had ever seen.
The Q&A was hosted by Walt Willey (Jack) as he threw out questions to the various cast members on stage and asked for their responses. A few of them we just had to share. When asked, what was your most memorable fan encounter? Alicia Minshew (Kendall) started it off by stating, “I have had so many. I was with Cameron Mathison (Ryan) in New Jersey years ago, and this little girl was very sweet when she met us, but started to cry and almost fainted. I blamed it on Cameron for scaring her. It was one of my first fan events and I was like, “Oh great. We killed this child!”
Then, Cameron Mathison brought the house down when he revealed his most memorable fan encounter! “There was another time I terrified someone, but I have had frozen turkeys thrown at me, and some woman brought her pet horse to a mall signing because the horse was fan of my work! This is all true. But, my favorite all-time fan story was back 12 or 13 years ago. Ryan was on trial for rape and it turns out he didn’t do it. It was his brother and so the DNA was similar, etc, etc. So, I was in a very busy department store during the holiday season and the escalator sort of goes up from the main floor. I was there with my girlfriend at the time. There was a woman going up the escalator with sort of view of the entire floor and she spots me in a crowd. She yells, “Ryan! Ryan!” And being new to the show, and kind of getting off on this, I put my hand up in recognition, and I yell, “How you doin’?” And the woman yells back, “I am so glad they let you out of jail. I knew you didn’t rape her!” (Laughs)
Next, Chrishell Stause (Amanda) chimed in about her most unusual fan encounter. “When I first came on the show, Amanda was not the most liked person on the planet. I was walking around the streets of New York one day, and it was right when I taking Lily’s boyfriend….Lily, who was autistic! So this woman comes up to me on the street screaming at me, “How could you do that? I can’t believe you took her boyfriend!” And she is yelling so loud I thought she was going to haul off and hit me. At first, I thought it was a joke, and I laughed. But then I quickly realized she was not kidding. And I had to quickly and slowly back away! It was very sick!”
Later when Willey asked the panelists, what was your favorite scene, Minshew kicked it off when she said, “One of my favorite scenes is with Rebecca Budig (Greenlee). It involves a wedding dress and a wedding cake, and it’s the two of us scrapping it out and throwing cake on each other. And that is when Rebecca and I became friends. And, also there was a time when Greenlee and Kendall were once again fighting on the floor of Fusion and Greenlee picked up a bottle of lotion and squirted it all over me, and then Palmer threw water on us.” (Laughs).
Budig also offered up something that was also hilarious: “I think there was a story point where Kendall was alluding to being gay, in front of Erica. Greenlee is not in on this. So Kendall waltzes in, in front of Erica, and she is supposed to dip me back and kiss me. And we thought, “Oh, this is going to be weird!” (Laughs) But I was ready, and Alicia comes in to kiss me and dip me, and she fell… on top of me! And we are both on the ground and we are dying laughing. We looked over at Susan Lucci (Erica) and she is still acting. She never broke character. And we keep looking at each other laughing and looking over at Susan. We go, “Oh my God. She is still acting!” (Laughs)
