The cat is finally out of the bag! We knew Susan Lucci was going to Kenya to participate in Daytime Gives Back, for the
Feed The Children organization along with fellow daytimers from “GH” Tony Geary and Kelly Monaco. We also knew that a special segment will be devoted to the stars trip during the August 30th telecast of the Daytime Emmys on the CW. On the heels that Lucci was going to Kenya, “AMC” announced that her visit was going to be incorporated into the story. And so it was. TV Guide had the exclusive that went out today, on how Erica Kane goes to Africa too. Erica decides to go to Kenya to help starving children in Africa but its fraught with soap opera complications that dovetail into motionpicture-like similiarities. Below is an excerpt.
“But don’t assume this new enlightened Erica will go over well with her audience. When the first of two planned specials on the crisis in Kenya airs on New Beginnings, viewer turnout is low. The producers quickly drop the second episode and switch to a show about beauty makeovers, during which an angry Erica goes rogue on live television—a la Howard Beale in “Network”—and gets back on topic. Come September, she’ll raise funds for the cause with a massive dance marathon, like the movie “They Shoot Horses, Don’t They?” Says Pratt: “It’s the most complicated, ambitious thing we’ve ever done.”
