It’s been a whirlwind morning for daytime talk show hosts, Katie Couric and Barbara Walters! First came the New York Daily News piece that related that the end of Katie Couric’s low rated talker, Katie could mean that Couric would then be moved by ABC to the spot on The View panel currently held by Barbara Walters, who is currently in her final season with the morning talk series.
The N.Y Daily News report tipster said in regards to KATIE, “They realize it will never be a success and ratings are down drastically from last season. The ABC development team has been working nonstop on new talk show pilots and are looking at high-profile names to replace her, hopefully by January.” Another source added, “Katie may ultimately replace Barbara when she retires.”
Next, via Deadline.com, Barbara Walter denies the report that Couric will be replacing her, but the piece does allude to the fact that a denial from Walters, can often mean it is the truth! Just look at Walters track record when she denied she was retiring, and then later announced she was stepping down from The View, etc. Walters said about Katie Couric, “She is always welcome as a guest on The View and I was recently a guest on her show, but there is no truth to the rumor that she will be taking my place on The View.”
But the bigger question is this … Katie is faltering, The Revolution faltered, the whole ABC Daytime line-up shake up that axed All My Children and One Life to Live did not work in synergy as they had hoped, and the audiences did not support this change, and the revised programming day-part. So, what do you think of the news of Katie taking over for Barbara? Do you think that is where she will go? Do you think it’s sweet justice that ABC is seemingly, according to the NY Daily News, “working non-stop on new talk show pilots”, when they had two soaps that had an audience? Are you so infuriated with the whole situation? Comment away!
