In a new feature out today, TV Guide Magazine spoke with Don Hastings and Kathryn Hays ( Bob and Kim Hughes) of As the World Turns, who will celebrate the characters 25th Anniversary in April, with a special appearance by their former on-screen daughter, film actress Julianne Moore. The item was bittersweet when the question of dealing with the end of the run for their beloved soap.
Kathryn Hays: “This show has done nothing but bless me. I’ve had this job nearly 40 years—that’s most of my adult life!—and to be less than grateful would be unspeakable. I still can’t fathom that we’re wrapping things up. I don’t think any us will truly know how it feels until the show’s not there anymore.”
Don Hastings: “Even though CBS has canceled us, I don’t know that it’s really hit me yet because we keep on working! It’s like we’re all on this doomsday flight but we gotta keep laughing and keep our spirits up in order to get through it. I’ve literally gone from job to job to job. My wife [former ATWT star Leslie Denniston] says I really don’t know what the hell it’s like to be an actor because I’ve never been unemployed. Well, (Laughs), I guess I’m about to find out!”
