The reviews are in from Monday’s debut of the new mommie gabtest, The Talk. You know it best as the show that took the place of the beloved, As the World Turns. Well from coast to coast, and newspaper to newspaper the premiere episode was panned, and badly!
One of our favorite’s was from the Boston Herald who started their piece by stating, “For this, CBS canceled “As the World Turns?” And then went on to say, ” The network’s new live daytime yakfest The Talk makes ABC’s The View seem like a collaboration between NPR and MIT. Instead of five annoying chatterboxes, CBS fields six: Big Brother robot Julie Chen, Roseanne co-star Sara Gilbert (who created the show and serves as executive producer), King of Queens co-star Leah Remini, America’s Got Talent judge Sharon Osbourne, Celebrity Apprentice runner-up Holly Robinson Peete and Hairspray’s Marissa Jaret Winokur. Unlike The View, there were no topical references — the show could have been filmed five years ago for all its relevance — unless you count the moment Osbourne turned a vague discussion of divorce law reform into a rant against cyberbullying. In the most cringe-worthy segment, “Mom on the street’’ Winokur nabbed mall bystanders to ask about the appropriate age to talk to children about sex.”
