Such shocking and terrible news to report this morning.  Legendary R&B and Disco icon and singer, Donna Summer has died at age 63!  Summer passed away this morning in Florida, due to her battle with lung cancer.

According to TMZ.com,  “Summer reportedly contracted the cancer from inhaling toxic particles inhaled during the 9/11 attacks!  Sources close to Summer told TMZ,  the singer was trying to keep the extent of her illness under wraps.  We spoke to someone who was with Summer a couple of weeks ago … who says she didn’t seem too bad.  In fact, we’re told she was focused on trying to finish up an album she had been working on. ”

Following her death, the singer’s family released this statement, that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.  Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”

Summer was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to super stardom in the ’70s with iconic hits like Last Dance, Hot Stuff and Bad Girls.   Donna Summer had been living in Englewood, Fla., with her husband Bruce Sudano of the Brooklyn Dreams, and they have two daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda, and Summer has a daugher, Mimi, from a previous marriage.

One of the truly great singers of our time, it is a heartbreaking loss! From She Work’s Hard for the Money, Love to Love You Baby, MacArthur Park and On The Radio, there were so many smash hits for Summer.  Which was your favorite? How do you feel about the loss of Donna Summer on the heels of losing Whitney Houston? Let us know your thoughts!

sorry to hear this… lost track of her but hearing her name brings up memories of college and later my little niece would be wiggling to the beat of her favorite music “donasuma”. Another niece years later played Last
Dance at the end of her reception. Her music will always remind me of good times. Read her life history today as soon as I heard she died. Lots about her I didn’t know – especially the musicals and living in Germany… very interesting. Thank you Donna! loved the music!

Wow! God Bless Donna Summer. RIP. The first thing that came to mind… was when i lived in Hawaii… and “Last Dance”… was the last song… that “Hula’s” played…. ie: about 1:45 a.m… She danced. We danced. Who hasn’t sung her songs. two songs that really mean something to me… “Love is in control” & “I remember Yesturday”. Take care. She figured prominently in the music industry… What a STAR.
