Such shocking and terrible news to report this morning. Legendary R&B and Disco icon and singer, Donna Summer has died at age 63! Summer passed away this morning in Florida, due to her battle with lung cancer.
According to TMZ.com, “Summer reportedly contracted the cancer from inhaling toxic particles inhaled during the 9/11 attacks! Sources close to Summer told TMZ, the singer was trying to keep the extent of her illness under wraps. We spoke to someone who was with Summer a couple of weeks ago … who says she didn’t seem too bad. In fact, we’re told she was focused on trying to finish up an album she had been working on. ”
Following her death, the singer’s family released this statement, that they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can’t express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time.”
Summer was a 5-time Grammy winner who shot to super stardom in the ’70s with iconic hits like Last Dance, Hot Stuff and Bad Girls. Donna Summer had been living in Englewood, Fla., with her husband Bruce Sudano of the Brooklyn Dreams, and they have two daughters, Brooklyn and Amanda, and Summer has a daugher, Mimi, from a previous marriage.
