Isn’t it ironic? Christopher Goutman, executive producer of As the World Turns was the recipient last night in Los Angeles of The Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Daytime Serials for the directing team from As the World Turns lead by Goutman. The win for episode #13,457 was bittersweet. ATWT ends its 54 year run in September amidst cancellation from the CBS Television Network. Goutman shares this honor with Associate Directors: Michael Kerner, Carol Sedwick, Stage Managers: Nancy Barron, Jennifer Blood and Production Associates: Brett Hellman, Alexandra Von Roalsvig, and Jared Lynch. Of note: Alexandra Von Roalsvig is also co-creator of Martha Byrne’s, web soap, Gotham. This is Goutman’s first DGA Award win. He had been nominated in this category four times, previously.
Goutman’s win by his ATWT team defeated the daytime directing teams nominated lead by Casey Childs (AMC), William Ludel (GH), Cynthia J. Popp (B&B), Sally McDonald (Y&R) and Dean Lamont (Y&R). The 62nd annual ceremonies were held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
