49 February 19th, 2013 CONFIRMED: Eileen Davidson Taping At The Young and the Restless!

Fantastic news Young and the Restless fans! Reports abound, and a confirmation this afternoon from CBS Daytime Sr. VP Angelica McDaniel via her Twitter account has Y&R beloved favorite, Eileen Davidson back at the CBS soap taping scenes for the number one daytime drama’s upcoming 40th Anniversary which airs this coming March!

It has also been confirmed that Days of our Lives did indeed “loan” Eileen to The Young and the Restless so Ashley Abbott could visit her brother Jack (Peter Bergman) in upcoming important scenes, but that the talented actress will be back in Salem as Kristen DiMera.

McDaniel tweeted the excitement of Davidson’s Y&R return stating “BIG Welcome Back 2 @eileen_davidson! #YR40 @YR_CBS @CBSDaytime  pic.twitter.com/bWHOVscZ Welcome back from ur CBS Daytime family!”

In addition, McDaniel let it be known in the recent issue of Soap Opera Digest on newsstands now that Y&R losing Davidson was a blow stating, “We lost Eileen Davidson- which is such a travesty and a disappointment for The Young and the Restless, and we hope to have her back- Jack’s family was getting smaller!”  Looks like McDaniel and the Sony team were able to bring Eileen back just in time for an important Genoa City milestone!

So soapers what do you think of Eileen coming back to tape some scenes as Ashley Abbott?  Let us know!

Sounds like The Young & Restless team is eating crow now, but how nice of NBC to let her go to back to CBS for a special episode. Susan Seaforth Hayes also returned to Y&R in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and made an appearance on The Bold and Beautiful. I would have liked to have seen that episode. Susan Flannery used to play “Laura Horton” on Day of Our Lives while Susan played “Julie Williams”.

The way I understood it, Sony fired Eileen from Y&R because Y&R, under Arena Bell, would not share her with DAYS.

Would Y&R ever do the same and allow Stephan Nichols to go back to Days for a brief visit? Just wondering?

    Mary SF replied

I thought Y&R canned Stephan–pretty sure he was let go- so if Days made him offer, maybe he would go back- not for a visit, but to stay for a while- heaven knows Kayla is desperate need of a story line- Maybe Patch can come to town to help Hope find her MIA husband Bo.

I havent heard that but i hope its true because Days needs to patch(pun) up that hole in Kaylas life and bring her into the story again instead of wasting the actress’s talent. Days need to revive the Brady bunch stat.

YR did fire SN. Michael reported it a while back.

I missed that. Its kinda good news. I hope Days wakes up and brings him back. I like GH but worry they might snap him back first.

Amen! Ashley Abbott is too important a character to be out of sight and out of mind. I applaud the collegial atmosphere that allows this actor-sharing to be.

I believe Y&R is getting its groove back. I feel bad for the actors and characters that suffered death and harm during those dark MAB years.

If this were ABC, they’d have never allowed it. They didn’t allow Jerry ver Dorn to return to GL one final time as Ross before it ended because they were CBS, or allow Finola Hughes to do double time as Anna (in 2007 or 2008) and Sabrina’s mother on Y&R for the same reason. Heck, The View won’t even name other networks when stars from their shows come on to promote them! They always say “Check your local listings”. Whereas “The Talk” featured GH cast members for their Daytime Emmy special. ABC just doesn’t play as nice with others. They are the equivalent of an insecure highschooler.

A bit of a rant, sorry!

Anyway, I’m fine with Ashley coming back to Y&R, so long as Kristen isn’t going anywhere. She was the impetus of this entertaining show we have again.

Yes, DAYS needs to keep Miss Davidson and Kristen. I enjoy both the actress and character there.

Your ABC points are well stated. In hindsight, it seems so silly and without purpose. ABC suicided its own daytime brand, so why all that effort to seemingly protect it?

    Mary SF replied

NBC does seem more reasonable- didn’t I see the guy who plays Justin on GH recently? Also Sony owns both shows, so for them it is a win win if they let ED moonlight for a tiny bit on her old stomping grounds. But ABC does seem to very narrow minded when in comes to their own interests- or maybe that is the Disney influence because we all know how much Disney wishes it could control the world.

  8. Patrick says:

OK… that scared me for a second….. two characters on-going… give us more of ED… anytime.

    a lil’ tidbit -

God, she just loves… Peter Bergman… and it shows what natural ease she has with “Jackie”…. she was asked what person she could call any time of the day for “help”… or what have you…. in SOD… and she clearly matter of factly said… Peter Bergman and Drake Hogestein… as he lives across the canyon from her…. I think that speaks volumes… I Love her… she’s popular…. endured in this business… and gives so much to this industry that adores her…. She’s talented.

So They got rid of her,now she is coming back for there 40th Anniversary, I would tell them to go to hell,u didn’t want me then u don’t need me now…I love her as Kristen on Days..She makes the show..

    Mary SF replied

Ahh but ED has too much class to say that. It all worked out for her, she has a much better gig on Days- more air time, more meaty scripts to sink her acting teeth into. She has no reason to be bitter or vindictive- plus Sony owns both shows, so she goes where her bosses tell her to go. lol.

I agree… better to not burn bridges… especially, when, there’s not reason, enough… well, she landed on her feet both times…. ie: first time… on B&B… and 2ndly… back to DAYS…

honestly… Y&R with no Abbotts? it’s like DAYS w/not enough Hortons and Bradys… seriously remiss… i’ve always adored Jack, Ashley, Traci… w/Mamie and Dad John….

    Scott (ATWT Fan) replied

Y&R didn’t get rid of Eileen, Sony got rid of Eileen in favor of DAYS. Sony wanted Eileen to do both shows, but Maria said she didn’t want to share, so Sony made the decision to end her contract with Y&R so she could return back to DAYS. It wasn’t Y&R’s decision.

I’m glad they worked out a way for her to be there for the 40th Anniversary since she spent so much time there. I am ecstatic that she’ll be going back to Days of Our Lives. I love that on Days we are able to see so many facets of the character. In the end, Ashley was just a sad, sad heroine. I felt that Eileen’s talent was mired in quicksand on Y&R.

I know how beloved she is to Y&R fans and I respect that, for sure. But I watched Y&R for years and after her 80s run, they never really gave her anything meaty to do–sure she had heavy drama; crying or screaming or whatever–but she rarely drove story and she never got to be funny or charming or interesting. Ashley is an “older heroine” in the vein of Melody Thomas Scott’s NN, who is constantly victimized or cheated on or dealing with others issues and may get good scenes out of it, but not really a chance to let loose and have fun. As an actress, I would think the role of Kristen (who is as much a ED legacy/creation as Ashley, even though she certainly played Ashley first and longer) is more challenging and more “fun” to play. Kristen is essentially one of the main characters, is played several days a week, gets to wear fun clothes and say and do outrageous things, and is in a big romance with one of the show’s younger male leads. Her performance is causing the press to say words like “savior” and “godsend” and she gets to play comedy which is a huge strong suit for her and one which she has said over and over again she loves to play. I’m sure she might return to Y&R one day, but Y&R blew it by letting her go and I can’t see ED rushing back right away. Creatively, I think DAYS is good for her, and I know she is good for DAYS.

    100% agree….

it’s kinda like Y&R is fixated on Victor and Jack… ALL THE TIME….. which i grew tired of…

i’m repeating myself… but…. MTS and ED…. Ashley and Nikki… are powerhouse women and Talent…. bookoo bucks worth the effort…. both women have huge fan bases….

I’m happy to see Eileen Davidson utilized and working more on DAYS… she’s a big star in Salem….

Melody Thomas Scott…. for what it’s worth…. I hope this “MS” story works for her… and i hope… IMO… doesn’t write her in to a corner…. i don’t want to see her become even more dependent on Victor or her kids…. Y&R let Nikki become her own independent woman…. like Katherine.

I wholeheartedly agree as well!!!!! I love her as Kristen and she is killing it!!! My only wish is that Jason Brooks would return as Peter, bc she had sizzling brother/sister chemistry with!!!!!!! And the actor who portrayed Peter was gorggeous!!!!!! But we know that won’t be happening bc of his affair with Melissa Reeves in the late 90s………I’d prefer Peter/Jennifer than Daniel/Jennifer anyday!! They should just recast!!!!

Well I am happy they are attempting to make the Big 40 a show that will honor the show’s history. The 19,000 episode was the Victor Newman hour, and sadly many characters who made this show were either barely mentioned or not mentioned at all. Hope to see all the Abbotts together, as well it might be nice if Scotty came and paid his mom a visit and talk some sense into his bro- Fen. Like to see Brock back for the 40th, as well as Mac and JT.

This is so awesome! What a testimony to the commitment both CBS and NBC have to dramatic daytime programming. Obviously, the put the soap fans first. ABC could learn a thing or two about it’s own daytime audience by paying attention. Personally, I prefer Eileen in the role of Kristen; but it’s nice to see her as Ashley, Jack’s voice of reason and conscience.
