The rumors turned out to be true!  In a move that will reunite five-time Daytime Emmy nominee Jason Thompson (Ex-Patrick, GH) with the executive producer who gave him his soap start at GH, Jill Farren Phelps,Thompson is indeed heading to Genoa City as the new Billy Abbott at The Young and the Restless!

The news was broke exclusively this afternoon by EW.com which noted that Jason will begin airing in January as the new Billy following the departure of Burgess Jenkins in the role.  Jenkins recently revealed he is done at the number one soap opera.

In a statement, Jill Farren Phelps related her excitement on bringing Jason to Y&R: “I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work with Jason again. He’s an exceptional actor and a wonderful human being. He will bring so much to the character and we’re thrilled to welcome him to The Young and Restless family.”

CBS Daytime Sr. VP Angelica McDaniel offered up: “Jason Thompson is an incredibly gifted actor and we are thrilled to welcome him.  Playing the pivotal role of Billy Abbott, Jason joins the talented cast of The Young and the Restless as the show celebrates an unprecedented 27 consecutive years as daytime’s No. 1 drama.”

Thompson who wrapped his run as GH’s Patrick told Soap Opera Digest:  “There are a lot of guys who have played this character and one of them did it for a number of years, Billy Miller (Currently, GH’s Jason]. I’ve become really friendly with Billy and we’ve had a couple conversations about it and he was nothing but gracious to me… It’s going to be hard to fill his shoes.”

So, what do you think of the news that Jason Thompson is Y&R’s new Billy Abbott?  Is GH’s loss Y&R’s big gain?  Share your thoughts on this confirmed casting news in the comment section below!

To me, he’s not visually right for the role of Billy Abbott. I love Jason as an actor, and while I am not thrilled with the role he’s taking claim of, I will support him and enjoy seeing him grow as an actor in a brand-new role. After ten years as one character, this will be an adjustment, not only for Jason but for audiences, as well.

I like the actor but I agree that he is not visually right for the role. I seem to be in the minority but I really liked Burgess’ portrayal of Billy. I love his deadpan delivery of insults to Victor.

    Scott (ATWT Fan) replied

I loved Burgess before he became Billy, and I grew to really love him as Billy. But I get that he’s deciding to be with his family right now.

    Sammie Jo replied

No you’re not in the minority, I see more that don’t think he’s a good fit than do. I don’t know the actor, but just looking at his pictures, that is not Billy Abbott.
They should just scrap the role of Billy & Kyle, they can’t seem to get the right fit for either role. They had it once with Billy Miller, but that’s gone by the wayside, probably never to return.

    Carlyn replied

I totally agree. He is not visually correct for the role. Too dark.

    Mimi tiberg replied

I enjoyed that as well. His bantering with Victor always cracked a smile from me

    davlestev1 replied

Let’s see you’re not visually right for a made up tv character in a made up town on daytime tv. No adjustment needed. .glad. BJ is gone abs talent is taking over. .just wear a blind fold during his scenes lol

    Scott (ATWT Fan) replied

You’re missing the point…. Jason, to me, does not fit the vision of who I believe Billy Abbott to look like. Has zero to do with Jason’s looks themselves.

    CeeCee replied

    Hey, dav,
I agree with Scott. I had said the same thing weeks ago, when it was first rumored that Thompson would assume the role of Billy A. In fact, I did not even take the rumors swirling around, seriously. I said as much to Timmm, adding that Thompson would not fit in with the rest of the Abbots….not because of his looks ( he is good-looking, afterall), but because of our image of what Billy A should look like. I went as far as to say that I could not picture Thompson as a blonde. Lol.
Nonetheless, things will fall rightly into place….as it was suggested by Mary SF, this Billy will take after the Fosters in countenance. If you read Mary’s posts, she is always right in assessing situations; and, she does it subtly and wisely.
So, now we have a new Billy. Let us see what he brings to this sumptuous table….hopefully, something scrumptious.

    Freida replied

I do not like the new Billy on the Young and the Restless,
He can never be Billy Abbott, the looks, acting and he doesn’t even
Look right for Victoria, please pay and bring the old Billy back.

This guy is not Billy Abbot. When he comes on i fast foward thru. He has no idea how to be Billy. The first was Billy-the one who left when Adam did. 2nd was ok, but this one is not right.
    I like the new Adam.

I simply ADORE ” new” Billy Abbott. He brings so much to the role of Billy:
incredible good looks ( I like his dark good looks ) , a million dollar smile,
intelligence, good heart, sensitivity and downright wonderful rapport with the
rest of the cast of ” The Young and the Restless”. Jason is a very gifted
actor as well. He portrays Billy Abbott so well that he is not playing Billy,
    he IS Billy.

  2. Richard says:

I cannot believe this!!!!!! This is fantastic news!!! I sincerely hope AH doesn’t drain the life out of him with her dreadful acting. He will be on fire with Chelsea. Can’t wait to see how this plays out!! Only downside is this talented actor coming aboard and being under chuck Pratt’s SUPER shallow writing. YR will not do him justice. I knew this would end up happening. No doubt he will bring the required depth to the role but it is sincerely time to find out who really killed Delia. Beyond time. Can we get the YR regime of yesteryear back?? Where is Ed Scott, Kay Alden, Jack Smith, or Hogan sheffer???

    CeeCee replied

    Hi, Richard….
I’m a little confused? Are you saying you wasn’t Billy and Chelsea back together? Why would he “be on fire with Chelsea”? She’s married to Adam and quite happy. I hope we don’t see any more hanky pinky going on.

Ed Scott is working at B&B.

I don’t think Amelia is dreadful. Burgess is the one who is dreadful.

    Reply

    CeeCee replied

Agreed, Mo. Burgess brought everyone down. Such a colorless personality. Amelia is one of the best actresses/characters on Y&R….steadfast, I say.

    Timmm replied

    You got that right Mo!

    CeeCee replied

You know what, Richard? I think I may have spoken too soon. As su pointed out, soaps are fickle and their characters even more volatile. Thus, I seem to sense a revival of something between Adam and Sage. In other words, if anything comes out of that, then Billy and Chelsea may very well rekindle what they had.
Billy will get into some kind of accident (crash?), ……hmmmmm, plastic surgery? Facial reconstruction?

Jason is a great actor… but he looks nothing like an Abbott! Remember back when recasts at least TRIED to look like the actor they were replacing? In the 80s/90s, RKK at least somewhat resembled PR (B0) on Days. When Melissa Reeves left Days and was replaced by Stephanie Cameron, they looked like sisters. I could go on, but you guys get the point! I’m sure he’ll find chemistry with the cast, especially if they try to reconnect Dylan & Billy’s friendship that was started with Miller & Burton.

The main reason I’m not pleased with Thompson’s departure is because there is no longer one major GH character that is a doctor – RIDICULOUS for a show based around a hospital. I guess it’s very telling that GH has concentrated for too long on stuff outside the hospital when none of the 2nd generation cast has the education or knowledge to realistically work inside a hospital other than Elizabeth Webber. How pathetic is that? Not one Spencer, Quartermaine, or Cassadine under the age of 50 has any medical training. Only the supporting and barely recurring characters have connections to the hospital.

    Lucas Jones

    KansasGuest replied

@Tony – You proved my point. “Lucas Jones” = supporting & barely recurring character. Doctors & nurses are no longer considered major players on GH. All but 2 of the major roles are held by criminals, their partners/wife-of-the-season, their children, their henchmen & their lawyers.

He could pull it off–he can channel that Billy Abbott energy.
Remember when he first came to GH as Dr Patrick Drake? Aside from being a brilliant young surgeon, he was also an arrogant playboy. Then he got married and subsequently, Robin left, Sparkle Pony spread her fairy dust, Sam wouldn’t stop muttering “Jason.” while in his presence, and Patrick was rendered impotent.

He said he was quitting because the commute was hard, I think his home is in the east coast if I remember correctly, and it was emotionally draining because he has an 8 year old daughter that made the Delia storyline real for him. Reading between the lines I would say he either was or he saw the writing on the wall. Maybe they just didn’t renew his contract and are allowing him to say it’s his choice. Either way he’s gone. Thankfully.

Again, Mo, I think you are right on the mark. Yes, the travel could take a toll on anyone….I imagine it can become very taxing. I would think that if he had been comfortable in his position or if the viewer’s impression was hunky-dory, he could have relocated his family. That’s what people usually do for their bread and butter. Who would reject a steady job while it’s still alive? Then again, no one is privy to his business, soooo…..
However, Burgess was not well-received by most fans from the get-go. So, this was a contrived excuse and the ‘Hierarchy’ humored him, to appease any backlash. Just sayin’.

    Abruzzfan replied

Hi CeeCee – I don’t watch B&B, but I read an interview with Thorstyn Kaye (sp?) in SD who I read is very well received as Ridge. Throughout the entire article, TK lamented on how difficult it is for him to commute and leave his family every week. Doesn’t sound like his family would consider moving either. I think TK’s daughters are close to the same age as Burgess’ daughter.

JFP has done this before–put a talented actor from one of her previous shows on her new show in a role for which he’s just not right. The most glaring example I can remember is Timothy Gibbs as Kevin on One Life to Live. Great actor, but he was just all wrong as Kevin. She was smart to want someone of his caliber on OLTL but should have picked a better character for his talents. I think the same thing here: Jason Thompson is extraordinary and she’s smart to want him on the show, but I just don’t see him as Billy.

Coincidentally that break occurred just before Jason started playing Patrick, so I missed the whole “Scrubs” story. I came back for GH’s 50th and have been watching the past 2 1/2 years. Honestly, the character of Patrick hasn’t had much to do in the 2 1/2 years I’ve been watching. His story with Sabrina was a waste. And clearly Sam will be involved in the Jason story. Yes, they could’ve kept Patrick around had Jason wanted to re-sign, but while GH is losing a good actor, I don’t think the show will suffer from his absence. This is just my opinion and it may not be a popular one…

Wonderful actor. Interesting to note that Burgess Jenkins at 42 was several years older than David Tom at 36, but Jason Thompson is only two years older (39) than David. I’ve always felt that Jason Thompson seems to bring a layer of sophistication to his roles. On the surface, I wonder how that sophistication is going to work with the character history of Billy–but again, Jason Thompson is a wonderful actor. I’m wary of this recast given the character, but it will be interesting to see Jason Thompson’s take on Billy Abbott.

This latest GH/Y&R actor “swap” appears to give credence that there there is some type of bidding war going on between GH and Y&R. Even after watching soaps for decades, I wish I had a better understanding of how budget and outs affect so much of what we see on screen.

Jason Thompson has been emmy nominated for 5 straight years, with and without KM.

I really think he’s going to run with this and be reenergized… and revitalize his talent

I agree, pairing him with Robin destroyed the character of Patrick. I loved his early time on GH, and to be honest I never really felt any chemistry between he and KM, so I didn’t get the whole “scrubs” thing anyway.

The early Patrick is definitely Billy Abbott material.

You are so correct. I feel better about Jason. He can play a good Billy Abbott with his own flair. I was just entertained delightfully by those earlier December 2005 Patrick (arrogant and playboy) and Robin YouTube videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tr4gt9W_J4

    Those were the days.

Then that triggered those July and August 2009 Jake Karaoke nights and Lulu and Dominic/Dante days.

Thanks for bringing those days up Patrick. I was concerned as well based on his current character. It will be okay!

It’s bad enough that every time I watch old footage of Y&R, I’m watching Jason1 talking to Jason2, but now watching scenes with Patrick and Jason it’s going to be watching Billy Abbott talking to Billy Abbott. Nothing against Thompson, but there are other roles they could have picked for him and they decide to make him play the worst character on the show. If it was my choice, I would have made Thompson play Adam Newman and say that Hartley’s Adam was an imposter that was brainwashed by Adam so he can avoid going to jail and then have Adam reveal himself to his family and watch as the fake Adam or Fadam takes over his life. There would be a two Adam Newman storyline and Adam would have tried to get his life back. Then there would be an episode where Chelsea would have to pick either Gabriel or Adam. As for Billy, i would have the character leave town for a year before recast him!

this is so stupid, i would have respect for him if he was pursuing other work on primetime or movies, but to go to another soap to pay a character thats been played by who knows how many is so pointless, if he left gh because of storyline, it doesn’t make sense why he would join a show equally as crowded, its just suspect, its not like the billy role is a coveted role in soaps, and its not like he needs to make a mark in daytime, cause he already has, so for him to jump ship, i will not follow,so adios to jason/patrick, i’ll miss little emma, hopefully she gets to stay with grandma anna.

That was actually my thought too, Brian, when I heard that Greg Vaughn was leaving Days: he’d be a good choice to play Billy. (Though I don’t know how he feels about JFP; she was the EP for General Hospital when the show rather unceremoniously dumped GV for Jonathan Jackson, and I don’t know whether he holds her responsible or not.) It might have been smarter to go that route and find another character for Jason Thompson to play. I guess we’ll see how well this works out.

@CeeCeeGirl….When JT first hit the GH canvas as Dr. Noah Drake’s “chip-off-the-old-block” progeny, he was a macho, full-of-himself, hot-shot surgeon and consummate player….literally no eligible female of appropriate age was spared his considerable charms. Guess you had to be there, because that was then, and this is certainly now….after being tamed (relatively speaking….there were still a few bumps in the road, courtesy of his formerly roving eye….) by Robin, and then most definitely by fatherhood and being a “widower,” Patrick calmed down into a mostly responsible and monogamous man…..yet, he still had this boyish edge and sex appeal. You should have seen him sizzle with Britt when they hit the shower….it was like Drake Jr. got his old mojo back. That was, however, until Sappy relentlessly set her cap for him, and once she managed to tether herself to him, it was all downhill from there. Rather than being rakish and randy, Patrick became a banal and predictable teenage babysitter’s fantasy figure. It was quite tragic to witness. Even once he finally escaped the “Sapster’s” clutches—and not a moment too soon!—with the traumatic return, then rapid goodbye, of his presumed-dead wife, not to mention all the Gabe the Babe nonsense simultaneously being thrown into his lap, the once dashing doctor became dour and depressed…and who could blame him with those ridiculous storylines Thompson was forced to act out for over a year? By the time the sun-kissed sex kitten Sam finally landed in his orbit, it was a case of too little, too late to salvage Drake Jr.’s once-playful image via what could have been an otherwise uplifting, joyful pairing of two attractive and usually quite libidinous creatures….the right timing was just not there for them, since Sam was still hung up on Jason. Such a pity, too, because even back when Ms. Morgan was seeing Silas and Patrick was in such sore need of a real woman’s companionship, their “cheese curl chats” at the hospital revealed an easygoing and natural chemistry between these two physically-appealing characters….alas, when their eventual relationship actually blossomed, their “moment” had simply passed. So sad….just like JT’s departure from GH!

    Reply

    CeeCee replied

That makes no sense. How could Thompson have slammed Burgess? He had no conversation with him. He only discusses this new ‘venture’ with Miller because they saw each other on a daily basis. Besides the fact that Burgess did nothing for the role except curse his fate at every turn. Burgess and Jason probably do not even know each other. I am sure that had Jason spoken to Burgess, he would have made a like comment. An afterthought? I don’t know what you’ve read, but my take on what Jason said was gracious and grateful for having the opportunity to speak to the one person who played the role for so many years. He did specify that he and Miller had become quite friendly. They obviously fraternize, since they work together. Why belabor an innocent comment by making it sound dark and sinister? You are reading way too much into it. Can you see the positive in his words instead of the negative? Golly Gee!!
Miller made the role, albeit David Tom started it. It just seems to me you have a bone to pick with Thompson, and others. Sounds like Deja-vu.

    Shay replied

@Patrick….And thank you for your own very kind and magnanimous words! I vividly recall JT’s debut as the playboy brain surgeon, Patrick Drake, and I wondered was this rookie going to be able to live up to the image of his heartthrob father, Dr. Noah, aka, “Rick Springfield?” Well, it didn’t take long before I decided that the apple definitely didn’t fall far from the proverbial tree! Thompson indeed made a most convincing Drake progeny, particularly when he tangled with Dr. Robin Scorpio! (Their early days were a most disconcerting matter of chalk meets cheese! But later on, as they say, the rest was GH history!) Given those fond memories, even though I’ve felt that “Patrick” truly lost his cheek and spark during these past few years, it shall be a sweet sorrow to see Thompson departing for greener pastures and turning up elsewhere in soap land. I do wish him well in his new endeavor….Y&R needs a convincing follow-up Billy Abbott to fill those huge shoes that the unforgettable Billy Miller left behind. Best of luck to Mr. Thompson in that daunting task…..hope Genoa City treats him far better than Port Charles recently has!

Of course Billy wasn’t known for his stability. The program has gotten so scattered in so many painfully stupid story lines that a little stability was satisfying for me.

New Adam seems to have completely captured the program and the viewers. Perhaps the casting crew was looking for a competing character. Losing the present Adam would be a bit catastrophic.

Depends on which Billy Abbott fans will compare him to. When he 1st arrived at GH he was a cocky, smooth, womanizing ladies man. He played it quite well. That would be more of the Billy Miller Billy Abbott. Jason can definitely do serious, snarky, devastated like Burgess has been playing. I think the problem if any will be that Y&R should’ve replaced BJ ages ago. How many years did the masses complain? They even stopped w/the “bring back BM” & just said “bring in anybody else please!” Now many are used to BJ. Also he doesn’t look like an Abbott. IMO, he will be the best actor ever in that role. I love BM. I just mean JT goes deeper. Way deeper. He’s the best actor on GH & on all of the soaps currently, IMO. I’m so sick of GH character right now. He getting ran over by the bus. But I will really miss him. A blow to GH.

ITA, what the actor looks like isn’t as important as how he conveys the character– JT is a good actor and I think he has what it takes to make the role his own, if they help him by improving the story and writing for the character. Most fans forget Jill is Billy’s mother, not Dina, so he can have dark hair and look like Jill this time.

Burgess playing Billy had not much to do with the acting as it did with his washed-out looks, for me. He is very blah-looking. Just my opinion. He completely turned me off. His hair color blended into his face. The makeup people should have added some color to either his hair or his face/eye lashes….I don’t know; something! I may sound shallow, I admit it; but, one cannot go from a gorgeous god like Billy Miller with the sunshine smile to the nondescript Quasimodo with the angel of doom smile. I cringed each time he came on…..or when he made-out with Chelsea or Victoria. Ugh!
Now, I must have chanted this litany ad nauseam, but, looks can become a secondary factor when the acting is inspiring and compelling. Burgess needed to calm down and not overact his anger. I wish him luck.

I’m optimistic about this casting, but I won’t know for sure until I see whether he has chemistry with both Jack and Jill (I didn’t include Vicky because I’m hoping they don’t get back together for good this time). If the chemistry is there with his brother and mother, I think it will work out great because we already know that JT can act.

Jason Thompson is going to be the miscast of the decade in the role of Billy Abbott.

It will be like when ER was hired to play Heather and MW was hired to play Diane and fans are not going to accept this. ER and MW were also good actors like JT but they were so miscast by the show and never fit into the roles.

He is far too tall to play Billy. Billy will now tower over Jack when Jack has always towered over Billy. That’s just one example how jarring it will look onscreen. He has dark black hair, with gray coming in, and has dark features. He would look beyond silly if they dye his any shade of blond. The height and his look don’t match anything about all the previous Billy’s.

JFP is still butthurt that GH took BM and MS away from Y&R and poor JT doesn’t realize he is a pawn in this casting battle and just signed up for a role that doesn’t fit him on any level.

Newmanwins, you need to get past what the character should “look like.” :-)

Adam Newman has been replaced three times – each actor and characterization has been VASTLY different from one another.

I just wish the writers would stop dumbing down story. We do not need a facial reconstruction story to introduce another actor into the role. Whatever happened to the voice overs explaining that so and so would be playing said part?

I think they will take Billy Abbott into a different territory. They may find out he that Jason Thompson has insane chemistry with another actress just like Billy Abbott, played by Billy Miller and Clementine Ford (as Mackenzie) had zero chemistry so in comes Victoria (Amelia Heinle).

I think Jason Thompson will be a MUCH needed breath of fresh air no matter who he plays because he commands the screen. GH ruined him the last several years and it is a shame but Y&R’s gain. This is one casting move I 100% approve of. Now if they could just trim the cast of the unnecessary characters starting with SUMMER and SAGE.

Jason will enter with clean hands, and as such, I am sure the bosses want to keep him that way. It will not do Thompson’s Billy good, or be in his best interest, to start off on the wrong foot. ‘They’ need to come out with a doozy of a reason.

Oh, dear, su. Don’t remind me, please! Lol.
I said so many times before. Phyllis is forever gone. I understand that every actor/actress must be given a chance, and I did; especially Gina with whom I was familiar. You know, each brings her/his own spin to a character…. But, she hadn’t even come close to capturing Phyllis’s essence. As Burgess; he really trapped himself in the Billy role. The character Burgess tried to mold into his own creation, stood still….went nowhere…trapped.
    You’re right. I don’t think I can recall a moment where Gina’s Phyllis smiled.

    Tani Sterling replied

Forgive this, my recollection is the previous Billy was far more morose, continually, than the subsequent Billy; just my recall.

Forgive this, but my recollection is that the last Billy was far more morose, continually, than the subsequent. No question the previous had a stronger presence, but the writing fell flat when Burgess arrived. Perhaps the writers had intended to find a transition. It didn’t work if that was the plan. As others have said I wish Burgess the best. I found him somewhat comforting with all the zany storylines. Of course as he departs the show his role has become more confused. I haven’t watched this week.

Regarding other comments read: A physical presentation can make a difference regardless of the actor’s talent. I depends upon the role. This shift of characters is probably not significant, however, someone mentioned that the new Billy choice is tall. Adam’s height has been noticeable in quite a few scenes. Not that it holds any particular meaning. However, now there will be three tall men: Adam, Joe, and Billy. I think that may put a slightly different perspective on some camera work and perhaps the script.

    CeeCee replied

    @Tani.
    Hi, Tani,
….pleased to make your acquaintance. I like the different point of view you give on this entire Billy situation. The point I was trying to make is that wether Miller was morose, happy, jovial or angry, I believe the viewer always gravitated towards him. He never lost his charm. Burgess did not draw any emotion from me. His mourning of Delia was so stagnant, so uninvolved. I do not care it had to do with the fact that he actually did not know Delia….a good actor should be able to carry his pain and emotion through and onto the audience. I am a very emotional person. I cry over every little thing…..Burgess did nothing for me.
I may sound harsh, but, as you say, sometimes, if not most, looks have a lot to do with drawing in the audience. Burgess never even made an attempt at levity, to ingratiate himself to us. He was just there!!
I never even paid any attention to height, albeit it has been mentioned. You make a very significant point. I did notice Joe because he is an older version of my husband….amazing how much they look alike….his height, chiseled face and lean constitution remind me of him….lol.
It is so very hard to get used to having a favorite actor/actress be replaced in a role. Most times it works (Hartley replacing Muhney who replaced Engen), but other times, as we have seen with Burgess and Tognoni, it does not. I know that no one really says much about Gina, but she is a terrible Phyllis, in my opinion.
I do wish Burgess luck….but, for myself, he does not have what it takes as an actor.
I thoroughly enjoyed your post, Tani….it held my attention.

And, so you should criticize….that is specifically the point of these boards. There is such a thing as constructive criticism….I grew up on it …LOL. There is not one person who does not post his/her likes or dislikes about a character. We all have a functioning brain (I would hope, lol), and as such we discern and weed out what is acceptable or not, according to our individual opinions; including yourself. I, for one appreciate Harry the most. Why? Because he is a no-nonsense guy….good or bad, he tells it as he sees it, with his special kind of humor and sarcasm. He never vacillates; sways from his intention. Harry never says what he does not mean just to appease the populus….just because it is the popular consensus. Another poster who is steadfast in her opinions, regardless of how they are received, is my lovely, Shay. Never be caught in a round with her, epee in hand. HaHa!! I am the same way. It has nothing to do with bitching, whining or complaining.
It is so easy to call the kettle black. So, you want us, the audience to just sit back and have water thrown in our faces, whether it’s icy water or warm? Well, then, you better inform Mr. Fairman of this, because he is wasting his time creating this forum for those of us who love soaps so much, we cannot live without them.
I think the worst criticism is criticizing/ critiquing other posters; which I have probably fallen into that pit. But, I hope not. Enjoy your Sunday.

    Michael (not Fairman) replied

Jumping in to agree with CeeCee. I am fairly critical–because I’ve watched soaps for more than 40 years now and I know they can do (much) better than what they’re doing. I have no problem “relaxing and enjoying the ride” when what I’m seeing on my screen is well done, but except for occasional bursts, I haven’t seen that consistently on my screen in a long, long time.

I think most of us on this site who could be called “critical” would like nothing better to tune in one day and find four shows that entertained us, engrossed us, captivated us, involved us, satisfied us. Heck, I personally would be thrilled if I could find even one show that did that, consistently. What I see instead is a lot of corporate-meddled mish-mash produced by people who don’t love soaps–and if you don’t love soaps, you can’t produce good ones. Despite a lot of good talk, the contempt for viewers among the executives comes through loud and clear in the dreck I see on my screen. (I’m not saying some of the writers, in particular, don’t try; I’m talking more about the attitudes of the supervisory personnel at the networks and sponsors.)

There’s a reason talented people who do love soaps like Agnes Nixon, Claire Labine, Jerome and Bridget Dobson, and Nancy Curlee won’t work in the soap world anymore.

This is not a big loss for GH to be honest and it just may open up a few contract slots for the return of WK as Ned and GV as Lucky and what was left for Patrick anyway in Port Charles? He has been nothing more than a supporting character for the last four years and had become mostly expendable ever since Robin left in 2012. Ned and Lucky have way more connections than Patrick in town, and would be amazing additions to the current storylines right now, so it may be the best thing for GH to let JT leave in the end. JT also had zero chemistry with KM but GV had some of the hottest chemistry that I’ve ever seen with KM so a Lucky and Sam reunion would bring sexy back to GH. We also can have our Ned and Olivia reunion. They were one of the best new couples on soaps last year.

I would trade Luke, Silas, and Patrick anyday of the week if it means clearing up enough room in the show’s budget to bring back WK’s Ned and GV’s Lucky cause right now in 2015 we need Ned and Lucky on the canvas more than we need Luke, Silas, and Patrick.

As much as I like Patrick…I don’t think even he could play Billy Abbott like Billy Miller…Billy Miller was made for that role…He was the best Billy Abbott ever…sorry David Tom..but your acting sucked also!!!

Billy Miller was the best Bill Abbott by far!!!!! Hard to think anyone could be as good. Also, Billy is blond!

I disagree. Thank God Jason is NOT blonde.

I had no clue about this so was shocked today when Jason premiered. I knew he was leaving GH but had not read about this. I’ll say I’m giving him time. I agree that Pratt’s writing has not always been the best, but I will say I have enjoyed Y&R quite a bit after his first few months of senselessness. So with Jason, I’m going to wait and see how he handles it. He’ll obviously have chemistry with many of the ladies on board. Watching on POP TV right now and he seems to be doing okay as the ‘invisible man’.

He seems like a good actor so far only seen ghost scenes but not really loving the dark haired Billy. Burgess was awesome this guy has big shoes to fill.

On the contrary, dark haired Billy ( Jason ) looks so handsome. Also, his smile
    takes your breath away !

Being 65 I have watch Y&R from the beginning & was a bit tired of so many Billy’s. Had just used to Burgess. My cousin told me about the new Billy from GH which I do not watch. Record Y&R so saw the first episode with the new actor today. Usually takes me a while to get used to the change, but way to go!!!
All I can say is great actor & wow!!!!

Haven’t seen this mentioned, but regardless of the quality of the acting, JT and AH do not seem to have any chemistry.

This guy may be a good actor but I can’t get beyond his looks. He doesn’t fit the Billy role. I Tivo the show and zip through a story line that includes him. Poor choice in replacement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@ Shhurs : With all due respect but you are very wrong. When Billy Miller left
the show I was really sorry to see him go. I watched the successions of actors
playing Billy and none of them, in my opinion, could fill Billy Miller’s shoes. When
I saw Jason Thompson reprising the role of Billy Abbott , I knew instantly that
he was the only actor who could play ” new” Billy. Love his acting , his talent
    and his dark good looks.

I don’t think this new Billy fits my vision of the character. He is too old and too dark. I think they made a major mistake.

I don’t like him. There is no chemistry between Victoria & Billy. He doesn’t look like an Abbott. He’s too small and dark. The last Billy was perfect. He was believable. Sorry this one’s not.

@ Ann Buttrey: I beg to differ. The last Billy was not perfect for this role whereas
the present Billy is. I am happy to see Jason Thompson reprise the role of
Billy. ” The Young and the Restless” made an excellent decision casting Jason
    as Billy.

Billy Miller was a perfect Billy. It is getting more and more difficult, with each new Billy, to believe that he is the KID brother to the rest of the clan. I mean he is supposed to be 25-30 years younger than Jack. Peter Bergman is so
