The 25th Annual Emery Awards, held on Thursday, November 10th at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, was a celebration to remember. The event raised $1.3 million for the Hetrick-Martin Institute.
Venice creator and star, Crystal Chappell, who is also a HMI Ambassador and Good Morning America’s Sam Champion co-hosted the awards ceremony that honored Newark, NJ Mayor Cory A. Booker, Charles Fagan of Ralph Lauren, and Macy’s, whose award was accepted by Jeff Gennette of Macy’s, Inc. Joining them on stage was Kenneth Cole, Gayle King, and Ralph Lauren. NYC Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Harvey Milk School alum Kerry Neal gave a heartwarming special tribute to Fred Goldhaber – the first teacher of the Harvey Milk School who passed away last year. Alan Cumming and Christie’s Brian McComack auctioned off a trip to Parrot Cay and 25th Annual Emery Awards Legacy Plaques. HMI youth groups Stars of Change and CHAT stole the show with their performance that honored the adults who have made a positive impact in their lives. And, to cap off the event, Tony award winning actress Betty Buckley reprised “Memory” before the after party, Après Emery, got underway.
