55 May 31st, 2013 DAYS Blake Berris, Eileen Davidson and Eric Martsolf named Power Performances of the Week!

If you have not caught Wednesday and Thursday’s episode of Days of our Lives, you better catch-up! STAT! There was some amazing work by three actors whose storylines culminated with some riveting scenes, and in each in their own right delivered the goods to the loyal DAYS audience, who has been watching the steady build to these key moments over the last six months or more!

Let’s start with Blake Berris as Nick Fallon, who should be on the top of the list come Daytime Emmy time next year!  Berris’ reveal to Maggie Horton (Suzanne Rogers) and to Gabi (Camila Banus) that he was indeed raped and beaten repeatedly by Jensen during his prison term, and thus the rationale for his homophobic behavior and vendetta against Will and Sonny were beautifully performed by Berris.   Blake though, has been fantastic throughout the entire storyline and how about when he decided to hand Will his baby girl for the first time?

Eileen Davidson knocked it out the park as the evil Kristen Blake DiMera, when once again her lies and deception caught up with her.   She is dumped by Brady, left begging on the floor once again for another man of the “Black” family, and once again blames it all later on Marlena in some uncorked moments where you know Marlena has now fueled the fire and Kristen is going to destroy her!  Eileen’s mix of pure evil, psychotic Kristen behavior, sexiness and even in some ways some pathos, showed once again why this role is her best on daytime!

And what can we say about Eric Martsolf as Brady Black? For months we all wanted Brady to get a clue and Martsolf had to continually play being duped! However, when Kristen’s machinations came to light, Martsolf played the devastation, betraya,l and hurt, perfectly.  We can only fear that Brady is in for a complete downward spiral, after once again being made to feel like a fool and not knowing who to trust.

So for these reasons, On-Air On-Soaps names the Salem trio of Blake Berris, Eileen Davidson and Eric Martsolf this week’s Power Performances of the Week! You can watch Wednesday’s and Thursday’s episode below, and let us know if you agree with our choices!

She definitely deserves one!!! She was sooo good yesterday antagonizing DOC! haha :)

She was up against Cynthia Watros as the nutty Annie Dutton on Guiding Light so its no surprise she lost. Cynthia was mesmerizing!

They all did a fantastic job but Blake by far was the greatest. As much as I dislike his character, he slammed it out of the ballpark. Kristen is a nut job from the word go but Eileen’s acting was fantastic. Eric did a superb job also. Three cheers for all of them.

What a tour de force performance’s by all three actors! It was truly amazing to watch all three actors at there peak. Blake (aka Nick) broke my heart after he confessed to Gabi of his deep dark secret, I just hope she can cope with his demons and not leave him in the dust. Eileen and Eric what can I say, powerhouse performance’s.

it really took me by surprise…. could this be the end of Nick and Gabi? making way for perhaps a Jenn Lilly and/or Chrishelle Stause? with Rafe?

will Nick and Gabbi reconcile…. kiss and make up? I kinda hope so…. altho… I’m not so sure.. it’s in Gabi’s best interest.

Blake Berris was stunning…. we know a revelation.

When I watched the scene where Nick confessed his past to Gabi, I thought to myself “This is why I LOVE daytime television.” It was predictable that a prison rape was behind his homophobia, but man did BB deliver a believable performance, capturing Nick’s anguish, enlightenment and confusion all in a few facial expression. His regret at the way he treated Will and Sonny, but also Gabi, realizing he was using her to heal his wounds, show his character’s growth, which rarely happens anymore. It was stellar work– and although I don’t really like the Emmy award system, he does indeed deserve a nomination if not a win, next year for those scenes.
As for Kristen- well sorry, yes, ED did do a wonderful job, but to see that character grovel and beg for Brady not to leave her, basically repeating her scene when John left her was lame. I didn’t like it one bit- perform well, yest– but thought it cheapen her character for her to do that again. IMO she might have felt like doing it, but she wouldn’t give another man the satisfaction of seeing her fall apart like that.

I love what you said about Blake. You expressed it all very well and I wholeheartedly agree.

Kristen, yes it was a throwback, and a predictable one at that, but in the end I thought it really worked. The build up made her desperation believable. When Guza on GH repeated “Clink Boom” but with Brenda instead of Lily, that was a lame rip off trying to recapture the “glory” that was the original. This to me felt like a perfectly natural response someone like Kristen would have again. But that’s JMO.

    Mary SF replied

I suppose it was plausible she would have reacted in that manner again. Perhaps my displeasure for the scene is rooted more in my dislike of having any woman begging any man not to leave her by clinging to them like they were a two year old child. I suppose it happens, and it was dramatic, but I still think they could have portrayed her desperation in some other way and get the point across, just as well. But like I said, ED did a great job acting out the scene, but as a woman it was hard to watch another woman groveling.

    Patrick replied

I agree about that one part… ED’s grovelling…. that’s the one part, that was unneccessary.

otherwise… capturing… Kristen and Marlena’s…. Lovely persons. They continue to grab my attention.

like was said…. Kristen even had her Pathos MOMENTS.

I am glad DAYS was there when I lost ATWT and OLTL. I now check into Salem (althoguh I am still trying to sort out the Hortons, Bradys, and diMeras and the webs that bind them!).

The Will Horton storyline captured me first but then Kristen diMera’s return rocked me, too. I am really enjoying this daytime drama. I never thought I’d say that for the deveil possession, repated serial killer (something about an island) storylines, and such were too silly and dumb to hold me. Since the reboot, Salem seems genuine and the relationships true. I hope it gets even better,

I agree with these designations of power performances. So very very good,

I have to give kudos to the “supporting” cast….

ie: Justin and Adrienne, Sammi and Lucas… Kate and Marlena… all are rocking it out of the park… makes the Show even more special. add in Maggie for Blake.

They’re ALL elevating what Serials are…

Eileen’s performance was an interesting mix to me of heartbreak and deliciousness. Yes it was sad after all this time to watch Kristen get her comeuppance just as she realized her feelings (….which I personally thought she realized weeks ago, but no matter….), and to see her crumble into a pathetic ball of neediness as Brady left her (who didn’t see that coming???), but she flipped on a dime when she saw Marlena and in those scenes, she was feisty, devious, sassy and actually quite fun to watch. The dichotomy of in her portrayal, on the same day’s shoot no less, must have been a huge challenge, but she turned one off and on so easily and naturally and it made for some hella good tv watching.

Eric was great. I really love him as a person and as an actor he brought a lot to the scenes, but I’m sorry to say I wasn’t as floored or moved with his performance. Nothing personal, it just didn’t hit me the same way.

Blake on the other hand….he is just magnificent. He’s an actor’s actor. His scenes have resonated so much with me, not because I relate or agree, but just as one human feeling the pain of another human being (albeit fictional). You could see Blake was just lost in Nick’s world, and Nick’s pain, despair, shame and epiphany were all Blake was thinking, feeling and believing in that moment. From his eyes, to his body language to his words, everything about him was overcome with the weight of what had happened to him and what he’d subsequently done. He was so, so good.

Sometimes DAYS brings back a fan favourite and wastes their potential, and other times, you get real treats like bringing Blake back as Nick, or Eileen as Kristen, and fleshing out their story and giving them so much juicy material, to the point where you don’t ever want them not to be on the show. Stellar work to them, and the writers and producers for crafting these great stories.

Love my soap! DAYS is the best, and it always will be for me!

I totally agree with the two above comments! Eileen Davidson and Blake Berris totally knocked it out of the park with their performances! They both had me tearing up; especially Blake! You could see he was totally Nick when he was telling Maggie and then Gabi about what happened to him in prison! Award winning performances! Eric Martsolf was great in his portrayal of Brady, and Kristen’s manipulation of him. Great May Sweeps, Days! Totally awesome!

    Ces replied

I only hope they keep up the momentum after sweeps week and showcase performers we love to see on the show and eliminate drab storylines (Daniel, Jen & family) because that storyline hasn’t worked for awhile now with Chloe or Nicole.
I want to see more of Blake and hopefully see Nick try to work out his demons. Not sure where Kristen goes from here but Eileen Davidson is always delicious to watch!

    Patrick replied

    @Jules –

Kudos to you on Blake Berris – He’s a marvel and standing ovation/room only material. I so agree… it’s not having to agree with the stance… it’s powerhouse performace that staggers and resonates.

I was so hoping for more fallout with John Black… ie: Brady. I wanted him to see the message on his Phone…. oye! correct me i’f i’m wrong… that message was from John… right? and not Kristen. don’t know if this would have made it any easier for him and Kristen. I was like… so? what if Brady really does love and want to be with Krisen…. he’s still a dweeb for faulty emotion?

the “finality” of her and Brady…. and if John’s leaving town again….
where Kristen chooses to go…. ie: will her “charges’ with the Salem PD… write her in to a corner?

wow… i’m just happy the writing and watching DAYS is what it is…. Good.

Well maybe you should get 25 years up to speed. Then maybe you’d have room to judge it. Would you judge the NY Yankees today based on how they played 25 years ago?

You don’t like the show, that’s one thing. But you know how much has happened, how many stories told, characters come and gone, tragedies, miracles, romances, shockers, all ranging from amazing to horrible and everything in between, since the time you stopped watching? Get with the times before you knock it.

DAYS hasn’t gone to hell. It’s still around entertaining millions of people each and every day.

If Blake Berris doesn’t win an Emmy, there’s no justice. His portrayal of Nick has been outstanding since he came back, but this week he took things to a whole new level. Absolutely riveting! Some of the best work I’ve ever seen on Daytime TV and I’ve been watching soaps over 30 years.

I must admit, I had only been watching Days off and on because I was finding it boring. I just happened to catch the last few minutes of Wednesday and saw Kristin on the floor. Bam! I whipped out my iphone and downloaded the NBC app and watched every episode I could. I was blown away by these performances. However, all of the performances were awesome. Even Gabi made me feel for her

Blake’s performances were riveting. And when you think about the rapid shooting schedule Days uses, it makes his work that much more remarkable. Eileen was phenomenal too. The way she could change directions emotionally in her scenes had me riveted. And Eric too finally had the chance to show he could do more than just be everyone’s patsy. We’re lucky to have them on Days. Days is firing on all cylinders these days, and it’s in no small part thanks to these actors.

Eileen Davidson has just come to life reprising the role of Kristen. On Y&R she was never given such meaty material. Ashley was always so downtrodden. Even at the end when she found out about Tucker & Harmony her reaction was just, I don’t know, resigned? A few tears and that was about it.

The way she flipped back & forth between anger when yelling at Marlena and the coyness with her comment, “Sweetie, sweetiie, honey, girlfriend” and then back to the bitchiness as she ran her hands through her hair describing John touching her…..powerful & riveting.

Blake Berris was SO good. I was actually taken aback when he confessed to Gabi that he never really had feelings for her and was just using her to mask his pain & forget what happened to him. I would have sworn he was going to continue telling her he loved her and wanted them to still be a family. That was good writing and great delivery. Even Camila Banus was good and I usually find her performances a bit blah.

I really hope they follow his journey to recovery. Have him attend therapy sessions (NOT with Marlena, that would just be bizarre considering she is Will’s grandmother) and show him healing.

    Reply

    Ces replied

Yes, who knew that Nick really didn’t have feelings for Gabi? I didn’t see that one coming at all!

    Reply

    Patrick replied

that’s what threw me…. because… of his acting skill and talent…. even i believed him and wanted him to continue with HIS family…. yikes – i ached for him throughout this storyline. Now that I think of it… he didn’t show Nick “bonding” with Arianna Grace…. he was crying over the whole situation and let go… while giving Arianna to Will… and alas, having that conversation with Gabi.

what can we say…. Great story.

Blake, Eileen, Eric… notwithstanding… the whole cast has been delivering great cohesiveness, comaraderie, collectively delivery. Kudos.
