Can Daytime survive another blow? Roger Newcomb at We Love Soaps has broken the news this morning, that it appears that CBS will not be broadcasting the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony (the network had been in rotation with ABC), while NBC stopped participating in the broadcast a few years ago. The report goes on to say that ABC and SOAPnet may opt to not show it either. In the new issue of TV Guide, Jori Petersen, ABC Daytime and SOAPnet head publicist, had stated, “At this time, ABC nor SOAPnet has plans to broadcast the event.”
NATAS is now looking elsewhere to cable and networks to see who might be interested in carrying the only ceremony honoring daytime and the soaps left on the television media landscape. NATAS executive director, Brent Stanton hopes to know by December where things stand, according to the We Love Soaps post.
