The internet today has been abuzz with the difficulties NATAS has been facing finding a home for this year’s Daytime Emmys ,which according to TV Guide are set for June 23rd, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and far away from the Vegas Strip, which is a good thing according to several key daytime actors, and us!
Then, this afternoon NATAS put out a tweet on their Daytime Emmys Twitter page announcing, “Daytime Emmy Awards. Save The Dates to be announced tomorrow! STAY TUNED!” We also hear rumblings that more information about the ceremonies could be revealed at that time.
Regarding the Vegas Emmy production backlash, Daytime Emmy winner, General Hospital’s Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) stated, ” If the awards can’t air with dignity, they shouldn’t air at all.” While Daytime Emmy winner, Peter Bergman (Jack) of The Young and the Restless went on to say in regards to last year’s telecast, “It was a vulgar Vegas nightmare. The awards need to return to what they were years ago, a private, elegant event.”
Nominations will be announced on May 4th, and On-Air On-Soaps has faith that awards will be presented in some form this year, and hopefully in a proper forum to recognize the amazing talents in the entire spectrum of the daytime television field, which is badly needed in this current climate of cancellations. We know many soapers, would be devastated if All My Children and One Life to Live do not get to be honored for the body of the work over the last four decades.
