17 September 1st, 2016 Devious Maids Canceled After Four Seasons!

Susan Lucci has found herself in a familiar place – that of sad cancellation of a show in which she stars.  On Thursday, Deadline revealed that Lifetime has chosen to not renew the soapy Devious Maids for a fifth season.

Devious Maids was executive produced by Eva Longoria and starred Ana Ortiz, Dania Ramirez, Roselyn Sanchez and Judy Reyes and developed and created by Marc Cherry.  The series wound up on Lifetime after being developed by ABC, and the network chosing to  not pick it up for series.

While the soapy ‘Maids’ got off to a solid start, the ratings have slipped in each consecutive season, with the most recent fourth season averaging 0.923 million viewers (L+SD), but the show has been consistent, with virtually no drop-off throughout Season 4. Its average still was twice the viewership of Lifetime’s other original scripted series, the critically praised UnReal.

Wrapping a respectable four-season run, Devious Maids, from ABC Studios, was the first all-Latina ensemble on English-speaking television.

Darn that’s bad Lifetime, this show was good, and funny and all, had an awesome cast.
As for the other show UnReal, it’s not that good.

  2. Elyse M Worth says:

That sucks!! They left it off on a cliffhanger!

  3. Alan says:

Nooooooo! This was campy, soapy fun and Rebecca Wisocky stole the show as Evelyn Powell.

If GH is adamant about not bringing Ron Carlivati back as head-writer, they should reach out out to the Devious Maids writers who knew how to tell a story with twists, character development, humor, AND a pay-off in only13 weeks…something Jean and Shelly have yet to do in nearly a year’s worth of episodes.

    Preaching to the choir!

  4. Patty says:

  5. Lorenzo says:

Wow this is s shocker, I loved the show. Susan Lucci can come back to Daytime. Y&R please hire Susan Lucci as a new love interest for Victor Newman.

  6. su0000 says:

I watched approximately 5 episodes.. ehh didn’t care for it..
And Susan Lucci, well she was still Erica Kane LOL

  7. Tivette says:

NOOOOOOOO! This was my favorite night soap and the cast is stellar and MUST be brought back somehow…! On-line petition anyone?

  8. jb44 says:

I loved that show. It was so funny and every season ended with a cliff hanger. It would be great if they could at least have one last “movie” to wrap up the loose ends. I am going to miss it , the actors and the wonderful writing.

  10. Dr Helen Ruth says:

Lifetime finally has something worth watching, and they cancel it. Stop the insanity, TV people!

  11. John Gordon says:

You could tell that for Season 4′s closer that they were trying to “wrap it up” just in case in got cancelled, I suspected it might though season Four was good.
Nothing lasts anymore, it’s a shame really. I enjoyed seeing Susan on it, and the show itself was similar to Desperate Housewives – I liked it, sorry to see it cancelled but I’m getting used to alll my shows being cancelled a this point.

  12. MBmomof3 says:

Boo! Such a great show. Susan Lucci was at her best as Genevieve and the couple playing the Powells were my favorites.

I would love the writers of this soap take on daytime dramas. They know how to do comedy, drama and cliffhangers.

  13. Darren says:

Susan Lucci should go, to Days of Our Lives as the new Vivian Alamain, I would accept a recast. I still love Louise Sorel as my madam, but Louise will not come back to Days.

  14. Patrick says:

    - another – network should pick this up… an established show

my first thought… they didn’t want to have to pay for syndication right

a lot of shows are cancelled because of this reason

I’m disappointed saddened… and just a little pissed

this is a great MIX of cast… LOVE the Latina

  15. Rodd says:

I think that is a very unfortunate decision for Lifetime. They could use a good show in their stable. And why couldn’t they give “DM” another season to wrap things up? That’s so unfair to those of us who have stuck with this show through all four seasons. There’s not another show on Lifetime that watch. Boo!

But a big “Thank You” to the cast and crew of “DM” for some very funny and entertaining moments over the years. Best wishes on your future endeavors. You’ll be missed.

  16. Nicholas says:

shame for susan lucci and former all my children fans who had her back on tv . It is show biz and cancellations come with the territory . Hope marc cherry comes up with a new concept , maybe ” Desperate networks ” revolving around the drama between 2 rival networks , the people who work there and their families at home .
