22 November 20th, 2013 Does Josh Bowman Want Out Of REVENGE?

Fans of the ABC primetime sudser, Revenge, have seen the character of Daniel Grayson vacillate from good guy to pretty bad guy, to amoral guy to heartfelt guy! And that has left his portrayer Josh Bowman in a conundrum!  So much so, he now tells TV Guide that he wants the writers and producers to kill him off by the end of the season!

Josh related, “I’m trying to pitch a Daniel death by the end of the season. I love working on the show, but I’m just being honest. My character has flip-flopped the most, and it’s been so hard for me to play.”

However, it seems like if the powers-that-be were to make Daniel a true villain, where Bowman thought the character was headed, perhaps that could entice him to stay?  Josh said on Daniel: “He should be despicable, disgusting and emotionless — worse than Conrad. Everything that he never wanted to be times 10! For me, that would be fun and the only way to keep him around.”

So, where do you think the writers should take the character of Daniel?  Make him a true villain and all evil?  Or, do you want him to be the good guy?   How would you feel if Josh Bowman left the show?  Weigh-in!

I agree that Daniel is all over the place so I understand the frustration of the actor but I am 100% opposed to actor’s dictating storyline.

I see cancellation is on it’s way. Anyone who makes a statement like that knows the show is done and done.

I think he should be grateful he has a job in a highly competitive industry. Hard to play? He’s supposed to be an actor, not a model.

    I agree.
And I would think it more interesting to play and all-over-the-place character than one that’s always the same. He gets to show so many more sides of the character.

This season, the show has the feeling of being ‘too all over the place.’ So, I agree that it’s difficult for the actors, not just Josh. Even Emily has been flip flopping in her intents. Could be this is the last season. Time will tell.

The character of Daniel should be made to be all evil like his Dad. Also, keep his clothes off lol As for the show being cancelled, I don’t think that will happen if the Mentalist leaves. The show is doing respectably on the toughest night of the schedule. This year has been great, so if they keep up the great plotlines they’ll stay on IMO.

I think that season 3 of Revenge has been terrific and the unknown character direction of Daniel from week to week leaves the viewers guessing. The writing is well done and easier to follow than in season 2. I look forward to a new episode each week and it is frustrating to learn that the series won’t be returning until March.

They need one Grayson with morals unless they are introducing Conrad’s children from his first Marriage; maybe they are the good Graysons.

I love that Daniel has been a moral compass, especially now that Jack has gotten so feisty! My vote would be for him to stay more good than bad. The great thing about the show, is that there is so many ways to play all of the characters!

Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you! Original plan was for Daniel to die midway through season one anyway.

P.S. There are hundreds of good-looking actors who would be thrilled to do whatever the producers want in exchange for the generous salary Bowman makes. If I went to someone and told them I hated my job and disresepected my boss, I’d be fired the next day!

Give him his wish…never liked him anyway, so buh-bye, Daniel, don’t let the door hit you on the way out!!!! Quite frankly, Patrick is the son (of Victoria) with all the delicious charisma and inborn villainy…bring him back! Revenge needn’t look for another bad boy….they already have him just waiting to return!!!!!

This reminds me of Jessica Biehl’s “Mr. Spelling Please Kill Me Off!” tantrum. She didn’t get killed off, but she did get written out only to return a few years later as a frequent guest star when she found Hollywood wasn’t as ready to make her a star as she thought. Eventually, she did get to relative stardom, but it was long after Seventh Heaven was canceled. David Caruso? Same deal. Hot show, wans’t happy with the “direction” of his character, quit to go do more satisfying things and found the work wasn’t there like he thought it would be. Eventually (years later) he got a lead on a popular show and this time he stayed, but those were lean years in-between. No doubt Bowman is hearing that he is a super hot commodity right now. No doubt that the show could bring Justin Hartley back and survive his leaving, but he has a contract and he’s employed in a field where 98.8% of all his peers will NEVER book a series regular or even recurring role on a show. Careful there–don’t ever feel you have the right to dictate story (and any inputs you have should be behind the scenes, not to the press) and don’t ever feel that you have so many opportunities “out there” that you can disrespect the job you already have.

I call it the Catherine Oxenberg Syndrome– unknown gets cast on hit show, gets a lot of hot air blown up their backside and decides that they’re too hot for TV. Time will tell, but Farrah Fawcett is the only example I can think of that actually worked out.

True…and even she was not to the level she expected/desired. Though she worked quite a bit at first and ultimately THE BURNING BED gave her the legitimacy she’d craved, no one can argue that her career was red hot–her celebrity perhaps, but not her acting career, in any kind of sustained way. Biehl is settling into her own middling level of celebrity–consistent supporting roles in big movies, strong (enough) performances), and arguably more famous husband, BUT she has not accomplished anything she couldn’t have accomplished filling out her 7th Heaven commitments (maybe with a few more outs, not potentially blowing up the relationships). Given how short a shelf life CA’s had, the same could be said for FF. I mean, best of luck to all these folks, but, honestly, I feel if you make a commitment, keep it. And even if you aren’t going to–don’t go to the press and indicate it was a problem with the SHOW or the fact that you somehow believed in the integrity of the character more than the creator fo the character/writers did that “made” you leave. Ahem, Katherine Heigl. I’m with Thorsten Kaye (OLTL, PC, AMC, B&B), who answers crticisms of “my character would never do that!” with “Yes, they would, it says so right there in the script.”

I love Daniel and hope he stays on the show! I like him much more than Aiden and Jack and quite frankly don’t feel the chemistry between Emily and those guys like I felt between Emily and Daniel in the first season. I hope Emily and Daniel get back together. He started out a genuinely good guy and got played as a fool. Who can blame him for shooting Emily! I think they are more than even. Now. Conrad and Victoria are the villains, not Daniel. Please keep him in the show!
