8 November 27th, 2015 Downton Abbey Posts Invite To Series Finale! Michelle Dockery On Filming Last Episode: “I Felt Sick … I Didn’t Expect To Feel So Sad.”

The UK is preparing themselves for a hankie-filled moment in time with the upcoming series finale on Christmas of the Emmy Award-winning smash hit soap, Downton Abbey.

On Friday, the official series Twitter feed posted an invitation to tune-in that said: “You are cordially invited to by The Earl and Countess of Grantham to join us on Christmas Day for The Final Episode in the Final Series of Downton Abbey. Thank you for sharing this journey with us. Let’s raise a glass to our last episode, the 25th December. 2015 as we open the doors to the Abbey for the last time.”

Meanwhile, series star Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary) revealed in a new interview with UK’s Red Magazine, just how she felt when she wrapped her final scenes on the show. Dockery expressed: “On my last day of filming, leading up to that final take, I felt sick.  I didn’t expect to feel so sad. But I think it was a smart move to end the show where we did. At the wrap party, the producer did a speech and said, ‘Now let’s party like it’s 1925!’ My feet have only just recovered from all the dancing.”

Viewers in the U.S. will have to prepare themselves starting on January 3rd to see how it all ends for the Crawley and company, when the series sixth final series begins its final run on PBS Masterpiece.

So, what do you think about the finale annoucement in the UK? Michelle Dockery’s comments? Are you excited to see Downton begin in the U.S. in six weeks?  Comment below!

The UK will run out of tissues. I’m stocking up for January 3rd. Downton Abbey is an absolute wonder.

It’s always a great treat to anticipate a new season of “Downton Abbey!” I’m currently enjoying the reruns of the last installment, which only adds to the excitement of the forthcoming shows, although that joy is somewhat tempered by the sobering notion that this shall be the beginning of the end of the Crawley family chronicles….so bittersweet! Having read much of the UK coverage, I’m pretty much already aware of what lies ahead for my beloved (and NOT so beloved) characters, but I’m still awaiting the viewing with bated breath, all the same. It would seem that the program is going to go out on a high note, but I shall terribly miss it when it reaches its conclusion, especially my personal favorites, the steely Lady Mary and redoubtable Dowager Countess Violet….they simply don’t make priceless women like that anymore, do they?

    Mark Y replied

On Downton they do – Anna Bates!

    Shay replied

Well, yes, Mark Y, Anna is a true heroine and sweetheart…I quite like her, too! Whilst most are attached to her for her complex and sometimes tortured romance with Mr. Bates, it’s her friendship with Lady Mary that totally makes her character for me. They are quite a unique team….an early 20th century example of “Girl Power!”!

can’t wait. I love this show, knowing it will end is sad. But better they end it on a high note, and not drag it out till no one cares.

I am looking forward to the new season, however, I feel terrible that it’s ending. It’s been my favorite show of all time.

  5. Karen Kelly McEachern says:

will be sad, but “all good things come to an end ” .

  6. Marilyn says:

I am “sick” also, just like Lady Mary! I will miss watching the show each season! I dare say one more year would have been fine!
