The British do it best…American soap writers should take lessons from them!!!

Tell me about it, jimh….I just watched the umpteenth repeat of the last episode of the current season over this past weekend, and I am missing the show already…. it’s THAT good! Although I am looking forward to “Mr. Selfridge, Season 2″ in the upcoming weeks, it still is always sooo sad to have another batch of new “Downton” programs dwindle down to zero. The wait for next season begins!!!! While I thought that much of the Season 4 was sheer perfection, I do have to say that I have seen enough of Shirley MacLaine’s character to last a lifetime….she is such an arrogant, odious crone, always playing the declasse’ “Ugly American” to the hilt whilst conjuring images of “Endora” from Bewitched with her tacky, over-the-top, garish appearance. Dame Maggie’s superb putdowns and askance, withering glances at her are the only things that make “Martha” even a wee bit tolerable.

Well, she did play the actress playing Endora in that awful ‘Bewitched’ movie from 2005 so maybe she loved that part all too well…lol

Oh yeah….totally forgot about that flop, jimh! Guess Shirley did love the role of Endora a bit too much! Well, it was about witchcraft….she’s into all that freaky stuff! LOL…..

I agree I dont think it will be Blake or Gillingham. I still have hopes for Branson.

Based upon their closing scene together, I wonder if there is a future for Branson and Edith…..particularly if her married beau is ever declared dead. In many ways, those two would make the most sense as a couple, since they both seem to be the square pegs in the Downton scheme of things. And I’ll bet Tom figures out the pig farmer’s latest addition to the family is really Edith’s illegitimate child…..

I saw the show for the first time last Sunday and instantly fell in love with it. Luckily, I found the videos of the prior seasons online and just finished watching the 3rd season the other night. The characters and stories keep you on the edge of your seat. I have to agree with jimh above. American writers could learn a lesson or two about character development and building suspense.

I fell in love with the series and hope that there may be another series 5 in the future.
Agree with the opinions stated above we have a lot to learn from the Brits.

The cast is already back at work on Series 5…..and apparently, both Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake remain in the picture, although I am personally rooting for Blake. He has the right chemistry with Mary to keep things interesting…..

I don’t know. ? I was happy to see that by the end of the show last night Mary was thinking. I love the show. No complaints unlike American Soaps. I like all the stories, and can’t wait for season 5. I usually don’t care for British soaps but this one makes me STOP and watch.

Forgetting about who gets Mary, Who got as big a kick out of it as I did, Fellows actually had Green really thrown under the bus. I got the biggest chuckle out of that. We use the term all the time but he actually did it to the rapist character.! Hooray for him.!

I fell in love with Downton Abbey and watched a marathon first three seasons and hoped to watch the fourth on Amazon streaming but alas, it’s not on Prime yet. I am totally bummed out because I wanted to see the family’s reaction of Matthew’s death!!! I can’t wait until Season Four is on Prime but will wait for Season 5 on PBS!

I am a big fan of Days of Our Lives and James Scott. Maybe they should import James back to England to be a suitor for Lady Mary! Wouldn’t he be a handsome addition to Downton Abbey cast!

Although Gillingham is taller than Mary and more handsome than Blake, he is not given a responsible occupation as Blake has. I think Mary should have a mate with some accomplishment such as Matthew had as a lawyer. However, Mary has not yet shown as much positive emotion toward Blake as she has toward Gillingham, especially that kiss in the British episode 4. So I think despite his being shorter than Mary, Blake is the best one for her. She might grow bored with Gillingham after a while, but Blake seems a better mental match with Mary.
