Looks like Empire’s upcoming third season will feature more backstory on Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) and Lucious’ (Terrence Howard) upbringing!
According to TV Line, the producers are searching for an African-American actor and actress to play a teenaged Loretha (Cookie) and a teenaged Lucious.
Although unclear what age the young couple will be, the casting notice that surfaced expressed that candidates should be “18 to play younger.” With Teen Cookie described as a “beautiful but innocent Catholic schoolgirl,” and Teen Lucious already “possesses an incredible voice and his own sense of style.”
Thus far on the series, viewers have seen Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard playing the younger versions of their characters as twentysomethings. Empire creator Lee Daniels had previously mentioned he was developing a spinoff that would look at Cookie’s younger days and upbringing. However, it seems unclear if this casting notice is at all connected with those plans.
So, what actor and actress might you suggest for the part of a young Cookie and Lucious? Intrigued by how this will impact the upcoming storylines in season 3 of Empire? Let us know in the comment section below!
