This week on General Hospital, ESPN’s sports commentator, Stephen A. Smith, a lifelong fan of the ABC daytime drama series will be making an appearance on this week’s March 31st episode. When Smith comes on to the Port Charles canvas, he will be playing “Brick”, a surveillance expert for Sonny and the Mob.
Smith talked about his GH on set experience with ESPN Front Row and working with Maurice Benard and Laura Wright, who play his two favorite GH characters Sonny and Carly.
Like others from outside the genre have stated before when they see the kind of performance soap actors can deliver with such little preparation and time to shoot their scenes it’s impressive. Stephen expressed about CarSon: “I marvel at their professionalism, how focused and ready they are to perform at a moment’s notice. I’m practicing over and over. They take one or two looks at the script and are ready to go.”
Talking about his GH experience, Stephen related: “I felt like a fish out of water on the GH set. I don’t get nervous too often, but I was incredibly nervous. Maurice made it easy for me, coaching me the entire day. He made me so comfortable that at one point I almost forgot I was on the set. And we shot the scene in two takes!”
