In one of those breakout performances on reality/singing competition’s of late, this one has a tie-in to soap operas! Last night on the hit NBC series, The Voice, Orlando Napier, the son of former As the World Turns star, Hugo Napier (Ex-Gunnar Stenbeck) performed the John Mayer tune, “Waiting On The World To Change” and with an instant, The Voice judge, Adam Levine, selected the young talent to be part of Team Levine! The 25-year-old from Los Angeles was invited to the fifth blind auditions on Monday night (February 27) by Carson Daly and his singing and playing the piano to the Mayer tune won him a spot on the competition! During the performance, the camera went backstage to Hugo Napier watching his son perform!
Levine said of his selection of Napier, “I think the reason I pressed my button so quickly was because so much of being a singer is timing and within the first line of the song you had this impeccable, smooth timing.”
Later, Napier told viewers that before his audition that he had previously been sentenced to a few months in jail following a bar fight and it was during that time that he started to write and sing a lot, later joining his dad’s band. He added that if he stays on the show long enough he would like his dad to play saxophone during one of his performances!
After the jump watch Orlando’s performance and let us know what you think? And wouldn’t it be cool to see Hugo and Orlando to perfprm together on The Voice?
