22 May 8th, 2015 EXCLUSIVE: Days of our Lives 50th Anniversary Daytime Emmys Tribute Package!

Courtesy/NBC

Days of our Lives was honored during the recent 42nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards telecast on Pop with a very special retrospective clip package taking a look back at 50 years of love, heartbreak, romance, and intrigue in Salem on the longest running scripted television series in NBC history.  DAYS celebrates its 50th anniversary milestone this November.

On-Air On-Soaps Michael Fairman, who was the consulting producer on the Daytime Emmy telecast along with Daytime Emmy executive producer Gary Tellalian, and editors Patrick Doody and Shea McKee, worked together to bring this very special moment to the fans and the cast of DAYS that aired during the broadcast.

Fairman noted: “It was an emotional moment for all us.  When we watched the clip package back in the house during rehearsals, I, and many others, were overcome with emotion.  I felt we captured the right balance and essence of DAYS within the short framework of two minutes to showcase the heart and soul of this iconic show.  While it’s impossible to fully do justice to the enormity of 50 years of Days of our Lives, and include everything we would have wanted to, we were able to feature footage through all five of the decades showcasing the romance, supercouples, births, deaths, adventure, and memorable story highlights.  Staple couples: Tom and Alice Horton, Bill and Laura Horton,  Mickey and Maggie Horton, Doug and Julie Williams, Bo and Hope, Patch and Kayla, Jack and Jennifer, John and Marlena, EJ and Sami, and Sonny and Will were among some of the most popular and key couples presented through the years.  Along with heart-stopping moments such as: Marlena’s possession by the devil, Sami’s execution, Carly buried alive, Hope pleading for her life above a vat of acid, Marlena reuniting with Roman (now John) on the pier after she was believed to be dead, and Zack, Lexie and EJ’s deaths, we took the long time DAYS viewers on a quick stroll down memory lane.  I was so proud to have been a part to this most deserving of Emmy tributes.”

Now watch this exclusive posting of the Days of our Lives Daytime Emmy 50th Anniversary Tribute below! We hope you enjoyed this salute to the daytime drama series with special acknowledgement to DAYS passionate and enduring fans, who have watched faithfully the drama unfold for years and years, and hopefully more years to come!

Days seems a little better but mostly when Victor is on…love his wit…do not care for Xander or whatever his name is…he feels too Dimeraish than a relative of Vic’s…better sets please—the town square looks like cardboard-something out of a childs pop-up book and the woods looks like an artificial Christmas tree sales lot…give Doug and Julie a short story arc involving Dougs ex wife Lee Dumonde and played by Robin Strasser—bring back more characters from each decade for short visits in celebrating the shows 50th…the actor playing Cole looks like a young Wesley Eure who played Mike Horton in the mid 70s to early 80s!!!

I have been watching since 2011 for Original Will and Sonny and now for Sonny and Paul.

Unfortunately, the new head writers are totally ignoring this storyline and apparently haven’t made any effort to keep the character of Sonny on the show, i. e. either get Freddie Smith to sign another contract or to recast the role.

Now, some people are spreading that Freddie might be back for a visit once in a while, that’s just ridiculous and almost the same as writing Sonny off the show completely. The character of Sonny is absolutely CENTRAL to this whole storyline and a top fan favorite.

I am going to stop watching immediately when Sonny isn’t there anymore and the minute they put the PaulSon and WilSon storyline on the back burner for their obsession with the vets from the 1980s.

If they seriously think, the key demo (younger viewers) are going to watch for them, they couldn’t be more wrong.

I most definitely agree, SoapFan. The role of Sonny should be recast. I love this storyline…so, without Sonny, where will it go? Just abruptly end it? Please writers do not even think of a union between Wii and Paul once Sonny leaves!!!!! God forbid. I don’t wish Will upon anyone.
I love Sonny, I love Paul , I abhor Will. If Chandler were to return, then the ‘scenery’ would definitely change.

Soap fan Chandler is not original will, the first adult actor was Christoper Gearse. But you only been watching since 2011

    @ code.
How do you know how long I’ve been watching? I have been watching since College. That was in 2005. So, do not even presume to know me?
Did I say anything about the original Will? NO !!!!!! I said I want Chandler back . I am fully aware he i s not the original Will. It has nothing to do with that. He is gorgeous and I love him. That is all I meant. So, keep your negative comments to yourself….I bite back!!

Unfortunately.. it is time for Days to call it quits…. it has lost it excitement… thought it was coming back last year.. but again… it is back to it long drawn out stories… that go on forever… with no suspense.. .they have given a good try at it.. with changing writers after writers.. but Let all it quits NBC….

Why should Days call it quits just because you don’t like it? Just don’t watch. Simple. There are many of us who do like it that want it on the air.

I have given this soap many years of my life and you will all soon agree.. I am really saving many of you the lost hours of waiting for this soap to turn around.. At some point .. we all just need to accept that they are not able to turn this soap around…

    Reed replied

As I said, you may not like it and that’s fine. But there are plenty of us who are enjoying it. I don’t get why people come on here wishing for something to be canceled because they don’t like it. Makes no sense.

John Black every time I turned it on he had a new history. Marlena, so many stories to remember. The uter stupidity of killing off Jack. Congratulations DOOL.

I think Jack will be back. He’ll be one of the surprise returns I’ve been reading about.

I highly doubt Jack will return. While viewers love him (he’s one of my all-time faves on the show), TIIC seem not to always sidelining him in favor of others and the canning him the first chance they get.

    maddiehayes replied

DAYS has lost its way. The “love” stories they have now are a big fat joke. I tune in occasionally (like for Kristen’s most recent scenes), but mostly it is off my DVR. The returns of fan faves like Bo and Steve will bring me back. I hope they will bring back Jack, as well. Jennifer is boring without him.

Congratulations ! Even though I have not watched in a decade this soap was the one known in the 80′s for the super couples and boy did they have them. Some wonderful actors and actresses have come across that screen. Thank you for the hard work you did . Just think I know of at least two couples on this show who met fell in love and our still together Bill& Susan Hayes and Melissa & Scott Reeves. Good Luck hope you stay on for many more!!!
