150 March 18th, 2015 General Hospital Does A Throwback To 1963 In Upcoming 52nd Anniversary Episode & The Luke Shocker Revealed!

Courtesy/ABC

Circle this date General Hospital fans!  On Wednesday, April 1st the long running ABC daytime drama series will turn 52 with an intriguing episode for its loyal audience.

So what’s on the docket? According to Michael Logan at TV Insider, plenty! Starting with an homage to the very first episode of the series which featured Dr. Steve Hardy, Nurse Jessie Brewer, and intern Phil Brewer.  Of course, those roles were made famous by the legendary John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin, and Roy Thinnes.  But now in a twist, GH  takes a trip back in time with the roles being played by current GH cast members: Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) and Ryan Carnes (Lucas Jones).

Thompson told TV Insider that it was an honor to get into the shoes of Dr. Hardy for these throwback black and white shot sequences: “None of us took it lightly. It was a real honor to pay tribute to the cast that launched our show. Let’s face it: If they hadn’t done their jobs extremely well—if they hadn’t grabbed the attention of the audience right off the bat—none of us would be here today.”   Jason also added that the show really paid attention to detail for the special scenes, which included the recreation of the seventh floor nurses station.  “Every department—sets, props, costumes—did a fantastic job, and seeing it all in black and white is amazing.”

And that’s not all folks! Finally, we have been promised some answers from GH head writer Ron Carlivati on what caused Luke (Anthony Geary) to develop this alternate personality that has been previously known as Fluke!  According to Logan, “It’s a shocker—make that a double shocker—and not to be missed.”

So, excited for the upcoming 52nd anniversary episode of GH? What do you think of the throwback scenes to 1963?  And what do you think the double shocker now will ultimately turn out to be regarding what on earth happened to Luke Spencer?   Share your thoughts below!

I look forward to watching the 52nd Anniversary episode, and what a great idea to incorporate some of the current stars into the roles of the iconic John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin, and Roy Thinnes. As for the double shocker involving Luke’s storyline, I cannot even guess what it might be, but I am sure it will be a draw dropper. Honestly though, I am so looking forward to that storyline coming to an end. Anthony Geary has been exceptional in the duel role, but this has dragged on way too long.

GHs shocking twist: Luke kiled his father with a crowbar for attacking Patricia, and with the help of Aunt Ruby buried him in the basement-a dirt floor at the time-of their Elm Street home. Patricia ran away and Ruby took Luke and Bobbi to live with her. But Tim-the father-wasnt dead and craweled out of his basement grave before Ruby returned to have the basement covered with cement, unaware Tim is alive and took off for parts unknown…Tim is still alive and is a transgender-Helene Cassidine!!!

Su0000 and KansasGuest..Frank Smith and all those involved were an extension of the Luke and Laura storyline..in essence the Cassadines are just a weirdly creepy group of over priviledged people who had so much wealth they just started using it to do outrageous things to try and extend their lives to enjoy their wealth and priviledge far beyond their expiration date. When it comes to the mob these are people who funnel drugs and weapons and monies to gangs and take out whoever they feel is in their way. Their are NO redeeming qualities to true mafia tied individuals. They line up families and groups of peoples innocent or otherwise and take em out. There is NO glamour to ANYONE involved in this type of lifestyle. The stories must constantly include brutal beatings/guns/kidnappings/murder/rapes…et al. There just is no reason to sustain this group of people but for short term arcs that are sure to end in all out redemption for the innocents caught in their web of treachery. Even the best of shows knows when enough is enough and you think you’re mining gold when all your hitting is dirt and stones. I WANT IT OVER…WHACK SONNY…redeem the others…the qualities of them are still there but the lifestyle is not…ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    CeeCee replied

I hate the mob….Su, ,mobsters kill; they have no soul. Did you read the book? Lol.

    KansasGuest replied

I just want GH to return the PCPD, the WSB, & other law enforcement professionals to positions of respect, as they used to be depicted. Don’t need mob characters to be gone. But, I don’t want them to be romanticized. Luke became a heroic figure because he clearly wanted to leave that life & even persuaded the assassin hired to kill him to turn states evidence against Frank Smith. It bothers me that characters who get a 2nd chance (Sonny, Julian, Carlos, Duke) at life with their families out of prison/confinement go right back to making lousy choices. Every one of their families should, IMO, kick them to the curb when they realize they haven’t learned a d*mn thing.

If any of these organizations had a modicum of common sense there would BE NO long term mob activities so out in the open and tied to the department in such a small city…SHEEESH…there’s no dumber officer than DANTE…and now he’s got an equally clueless..long as MAXIE cool partner to bungle even more cases…

    CeeCee replied

GH definition of “the mob” is a joke. Sonny a Don? Nah…..maybe if he stuffed his cheeks with cotton, lol……but, I doubt it. The first thing the writers should do is educate themselves on “I CARBONARI”, then, take it from there. ‘Tis a poor imitation , especially with Sonny at the helm.
Furthermore, as Shay said, Duke looks more like a dealer of antiquities…..or something to that effect.

  12. Mary says:

Looking forward to the episode I think it will be great. I think Luke and his sisters were probably sexually assaulted and he probably killed his father .

Most likely the father impregnated Pat and something horrible happened to the baby and Little Luke witnessed it.
At the risk of being called a hater, I hate this storyline. There has been nothing leading up to the fact that Luke suffers from multiple personality disorder. The only one suffering from multiple personalities is this story as it swings wildly from point A to point Z.
As a life long fan of Anthony Geary’s brilliant creation of Luke, I can say with absolute assurance that as far as Fluke is concerned? Jimmy crack corn, and I don’t care. In fact, care less about Luke now than I even do about Jimmy cracking all that damn corn!

    Reply

    Dan replied

    @ Harry-

I think it’s likely that all the traumatic events that have happened in Luke’s life to this point are what led to the mental breakdown and creation of an alternate personality. That’s often the way it happens to the people affected with these disorders in real life, an accumulation of traumatic events, as opposed to one singular thing.

In Luke’s case, you can go back and trace his 30+ years on the show. Going all the way back to when he raped Laura, killing little Jake, all the times he’s been held captive by Helena, including most recently at Miscavige, who knows what may have been done to him, you have the unaccounted for years from 1984-1993 when the character of Luke wasn’t on the show, the Polonium 210 poisoning, which could have messed with his mind.

Add all those things together, along with whatever happened in his childhood involving his father and sister Pat, and it’s no wonder that a person’s mind would finally reach the breaking point and snap one day, creating an alternate personality to hide from dealing with all the bad things that have happened in his life.

That’s just my theory on how the story should be told. Like you, I’m a life long fan of Tony Geary, and I wanna see the story explained in a way that uses his long and rich history on the show.

    Thank you, Dan. Nicely done.

I saw right away why everyone want Steve Burton back as Jason he acting was excellent and I still think he might return to play the real Jason and this jake/jason was brain washed to think he is Jason by Hellena for one of her schemes/plots ,maybe Im just hoping that is the way it will play out. ACT2-Anna, Dante and Nathan in Dumb and Dumber meet Dumbest, the PC Keystone cops who cant solve a crime! ACT3 The Wizard Of Dr. Oz stars Dr. Liesal as The Wicked Witch Of The Westbourne who drops a hospital on nurse Dorky Gale played by Sabrina and her little dog Totolie played by Rosalie! ACT4-stars Monica, Epiphany,Milo, Mac, and Felicia in Missing, a salute to rarely seen GH characters but the stage is empty during this act and they arent even shown! ACT5-Carly and Alexis compete in the MS. Skangsta Moll Beauty Pagent. They walk down the aisle twirling guns as Sonny and Julian try to outdance and outlypsinc each other to Gangsta Paradise. Alexis wins by two big votes! ACT6-Spencer, Josslyn, Cameron and Emma discuss their kiddie love life and then kill all the adults on stage in Children Of The Corny! Finale ACT7-stars Luke and Jakeson in The NeverEnding Story. The reason is obvious!…lol

    Rose replied

Rebecca, I’m with you re: Sabrina. I like her, especially when she’s with Felix and Lucy. And we don’t need any more b*ll busting females on GH. I’ll probably be in the minority here considering how many feel about Robin, but I don’t think Patrick was any kind of prince the way he treated Sabrina when Robin reappeared. But it seems as long as it’s Robin/Patrick anything goes.

Oh thank you, Harry!!!! I knew that huge groan I heard when Floosy beseeched Sappy to once again ruin….er, join…the upcoming NB festivities was more than just my own….it was a collective one! Needless to say, I was beyond incandescent that for the third year running, this untalented wench is about to again be a central fixture for the show. First, we had the Disney-sprinkled debut extravaganza, then the downer deathwatch for the “Rubberino Bambino” with musical accompaniment and sing-along, and now…a tribute to Mary Poppins???? (Excuse me, but wasn’t this supposed to be a Robin-centric project? You remember her, right?) It’s pretty obvious that Ms. “CuckooCoeCoe” is not capable of putting together a decent program to save her life….why must she always take charge? I know you will disagree with this, but even your not-so-beloved “Dr.O.” could do a more professional job gathering talent for this annual spectacle….and I am hoping that Liesl will save the day by usurping the event even more so than last year. Her spectacular “Cabaret” opening and heart-tugging closing act were superb!

@jimh….Yes, I noticed a heavy dose of homage in your NB post, and it was most appreciated! Thank you for that. We are definitely of the same mind when it comes to our views of Sappy, Alexis—and her two favorite co-stars!!!! I especially enjoyed your Liesl scenario, and even though I understood the symbolism of Ms. Davis as the victorious choice as “America’s Top Skangsta,” I think Carly probably deserves the title just a tad more….she is the one who so enthusiastically and fully-immerses herself in that mob culture, while Alexis is simply led there (amidst her own unconvincing protestations)… cleavage first…. by her unabated libido….she just cannot help herself. I think she should be awarded the special “Immodesty Blaise” prize for the most audacious, ongoing display of décolletage. LOL. Lastly, yes, I would miss waxing sarcastic on the Sapster should she blessedly be dispensed with once and for all, but in the interest of making Port Charles a far better and more interesting place to visit, I would be willing to make the ultimate sacrifice of having this major annoyance of a character permanently eliminated. We would still have Alexis (and most likely Nina and Grossalie….) to kick around, and for me, that would more than suffice in the “Sparkle Pony’s” absence.!

    jimh(leave it to beaver) replied

If the show would at least drop one of those three waste of airtime-Nina+Rosalie+Sabrina-then that money saved could give more airtime to beloved vet Leslie C.’s Monica who should be on at least once a week and involved in Jason’s storyline-excluding her doesnt make sense but then again this is GH…

    Rebecca1 replied

Hi Rose…yes, we definitely share a common sensibility and appreciation for nice people…probably in real life, too. Everything we interpret is through our own eyes, how we view people and situations. I think there are certain fans who just don’t like Sabrina, or any other character, just because he/she finds them annoying, boring, ” overly sweet”, etc. To each his own, as they say. But there seems to be a real disconnect for some fans who interpret ulterior motives, mal intent, plotting, manipulating…where none of these traits exist. Must be frustrating for the writers to have their characters so misunderstood…

Harry, my lil luv…lil. I agree. Artificial sweeteners are not good for ones health. But Sabrina is naturally sweet…and in the small doses she’s on screen that only enhances and improves the sour taste of some of the other characters.

    Hi Shay,
It doesn’t matter whether I agree with you or not….I always greedily read your posts. Especially this morning….no sleep. Lol.
I wanted to say though, that I laughed so hard at the little skit between Alexis, Franco, Nina and Scotty . These characters meshed and interacted so well…for me, anyway. Mr. and Mrs. Monchichi? C’mon…that was hilarious. And, Alexis ridiculing Scotty’s coif? I didn’t know she had such a sense of humor…and her delivery was ‘parfait’.
Then, when Franco said to Scotty, with a straight face, “Have you seen yourself? Who else would you be.” Well, I just lost it….still laugh when I think about it.
I must say, I appreciated the comic relief.

Favorite scene I have along that line is the Rachel Ames return for the hanging of a Steve Hardy portrait. She had a lovely conversation with Elizabeth, and Jason was leading new residents. It felt like the old GH when the hospital was the heartbeat of the series and the human condition was explored in depth, without the crazy fantasy and spy turns. I embrace those more human moments, and greatly appreciate GH is still working to provide some along the way.

Was Luke’s alternate responsible for the rape of Laura and the death of little Jake? It would explaijn alot .Also, his frequent absences. Over the years, I always wondered why his character really wa not obtaining any personal growth. Actually felt his character was going backwards as far as evolving as a human being. This explains it. I know it was not planned that way but it certainly fits as an explanation. We always knew he had a rough childhood.

This just goes to show how much Frank and Ron care about GH, to put this much effort into the show’s anniversary episodes with the two Nurse’s Balls in past years and now this throwback episode. Even if the writing isn’t the best sometimes, they really know what they’re doing with the show.

As for the Luke story, my theory is similar to the comment posted by Joe above. I think Tim Spencer was a sexually abusive father to his eldest daughter, Patricia, and Luke walked in on him raping her one day. Out of rage he killed Tim, and Pat left the family. Since then, he hasn’t been able to get over killing his father or what he witnessed and that’s what caused his split. Now his second personality – “Fluke” – is his version of Tim, and that’s what caused him to rape Laura at the campus disco. He saw Tim raping Pat, and he did the same to Laura.

And hopefully around the time of the 52nd anniversary, we’ll also get the reveal of Jake being Jason and the mob wars will have quieted down a bit, I know they’ve been a staple of GH for a long time but almost entire episodes are dedicated to it as of late, so they need to relax on it a bit.

Jimh, you have quite the sense of humor! I was with you on the story right up until the last part LOL. But I think you’re right, I can’t see there being any other possible explanation for the split in his personality, and with Dee Wallace being cast as Pat, I have a feeling this is the path we’re going down. But maybe GH will pull a B&B and throw a totally unexpected plot twist in there (just not a transgener one LOL).

If women are their target audience, and the new ratings show record lows for GH in 18-49W demo, ask yourself why? Most women don’t want mob, mob, mob in their face start of show to finish. Why don’t they take some polls like they initially did when they arrived?
Having said that, I do like the writers. I think this is a great idea for 52yr anniversary show!

On another note, really not all that excited for the Nurses Ball….it was nice to bring it home but …MEH… however I did like the ” Raining Men” dancers… I think I watched that episode a few times….

Well lets hope Ron doesn’t pull some kind of April’s Fool joke and the Luke reveal doesn’t happen after all– because it is pass time we found out what happened. I too think Luke must have killed one of his parents, maybe with the baseball bat that Fluke was so attached to.

I think one of shockers might be there are more than Fluke/Luke personality. I remember when Lulu was visiting Fluke in jail and mentioned getting her Dad back, Fluke said that is one possibility. I don’t know why, but the way he said that lead me to think there could be more personalities and Fluke was the keeper who is aware of all of them. Sorta like in real life case of Sybil when one of her personalities knew about all the other ones, but not all the other ones, knew about her.

As for the throwback– it does sound charming and I’m looking forward to see these actors playing these iconic roles that help make the show what it is

AJ WAS a saint compared to Sonny…he wasn’t a murderer like Sonny, he didn’t steal Sonny’s son and raise him as his own…Sonny did that to him, he wasn’t part of the mob and he WAS murdered by Sonny. Thus, Michael isn’t looking for sympathy for himself or AJ. He wants payback and justice. Makes sense to me…

I think it’s so sad how few viable doctors and nurses GH has anymore. Nothing against any of these 3 or their work, but hospital vets like Dr. Quartermaines (Alan and Monica), Leslie, Bobbie, Audrey, Robin, Noah et al who still mean so much to the show are still so desperately wanted. These players garner more reaction when they appear than 3/4 of the current cast. What abou a double dose of nostalgia- a throwback episode with throwback actors? These 3 are fine, and have left their own marks in the GH halls, but it’s not the same. It’s just not.

It’s sad to see the impatience today’s viewers have for long running storylines. Yes, the Luke story has run a long time, but that was because of a medical issue. The Jason/Jake story has plenty of story left. Rebecca Budig will be part of it. Clearly Jake needs to fall in love with someone other than Sam before he remembers who he is, etc. Sit back, watch & enjoy the story unfold. If you don’t like long storylins, soaps probably aren’t for you!

Is it that today’s viewers have no patience for long-running storylines, or that they have no patience for this particular one?

There’s a particular skill involved in spinning a long storyline and keeping people interested. It can be done. But it’s been quite a while since any soap had a headwriter who could handle it. (And network interference definitely does not help.)

This storyline seems to me to be coasting along purely on the strength of AG’s performance. It doesn’t seem to me to be particularly well thought out or well told (I’d also say it’s not horrible, it’s somewhere in the middle), and that could be why there’s so much impatience with it.

Well, just as I have rolled the red carpet out for Frank and his homage to 52 years of GH I must say that Michael hiring Sabrina is hypocritical. She went after Ava and she is connected to Carlos. He is a mobster who is way more careless than Sonny. Secondly, how stupid was it to have Michael, his daughter and new nanny sitting at a BAR! Last, I think it is terrible to have Morgan force Michael into becoming an alcoholic. Alcoholism is a disease and it should not be used as a tool to grab a baby out of ones arms. Terrible! Su00, Michael is NOT bipolar like his Daddy. Sonny is AJ’s stepfather and Sonny is bipolar. AJ was an alcoholic and not bipolar. Morgan is trying to exploit the Quartermaine’s genetic predisposition for alcoholism.
I detest the fact that Morgan is plotting against his own brother with Kiki for so many reasons. One, alcoholism is a tragic and destructive disease. Second, Morgan doing this to his own brother is evocative of the time Carly spiked a recovering AJ’s grape juice with vodka, dumped his body in an ally next to the garbage bin then sousing his body with the remaining vodka, and then called the Q’s anonymously to report that their son was passed out in an ally. Carly did this in the name of keeping Michael away from his father and now Morgan is trying to exploit the Q’s propensity for alcoholism by framing his brother. I don’t like this one bit. Moreover, the new Kiki is horrid. She smirks and grins like a high school girl bully while plotting against her former boyfriend. She is not acting like the big sister who is concerned about her baby sister but like the character she played on Y&R–Abby, the girl who bullied the underdogs and who catfished her lonely and sad friend to the point where he attempted suicide.

    Harry replied

I meant to write that Sonny is Michael’s stepfather, not AJ’s. And Timm? You’re right about Sabrina being hired as the nanny of course. I was not watching when Sparkle Pony went insane and tried to kill a pregnant Ava so the hypocrisy of Michael’s actions had not hit me until you and Shay mentioned it.
Still, I am on Michael’s side on this one. I just wish he hadn’t hired Mary Poppin over the Cuckoo’s nest.

Also, why are the writers changing Kiki’s persona? TPTB are ruining the character.

Amen to that, Timmm! Seeing the precious angel, Avery, being handled by that lunatic nurse makes me see red….it’s just as bad as when this newly-born babe was stolen and constantly cradled by Nina the Nutter. Enough already with this child abuse! Between that nauseating bar scene to which you alluded and today’s self-righteous display of arrogance by Sappy, I’ve more than had my fill of all this selective amnesia when it comes to whom is fit to care for said infant. However, where we do part company is that after all the passing around of this young, innocent life that we have already witnessed, I’m more than onboard with whatever means it takes for either Ava and/or Kiki/Morgan to get this little sweetie back with her real family. It’s simply absurd to have to tolerate the spectacle of that insipid, interloping babysitter trying to worm her way into the Quartermaine fold in the same way she tried with the Drakes….no more! The Sapster is no better than all the other gun molls in Port Charles and her sense of phony superiority to the contrary is patently ridiculous. She always has been—and will be—nothing more than Carrrrrr-LOS’ sloppy seconds and they need to sent off together, once and for all. Gosh, I may be going out on a limb , but I have never minded Sabrina. Don’t like what she tried to do to Ava, but it wasn’t without provocation because she had been lead to believe Ava had been the cause of her baby Gabriel’s dying. As a result she had a post trauma breakdown and came after Ava. Sabrina is like a babe in the woods when it comes to some of the other characters in Port Charles, and most certainly Ava. Don’t mind Michael having Avery/AJ either when you look at the baby’s other options. Not that he’s not beyond angry at Sonny now, and the Quartermaines aren’t perfect, but Michael has good, first hand reasons why his imperfect family is better than the gun world of either Sonny or Eva. Love to see him take a stand. And he asked Sabrina, she didn’t Maneuver her way into being a babysitter. But I will admit Carlos is her bain. She can just be too nice. Miss her friendship with Felix. He and Lucy brought her out of her shell.

    Rebecca1 replied

Sabrina is and always has been a good hearted character. To see deceit or manipulation in her is a complete lack of understanding of Sabrina. She genuinely loved Patrick and Emma and she has no interest in Michael. He approached her to work in the clinic, he approached her to be Avery’s nanny ( AJ’s nanny sounded a tad weird considering…but I digress). I know there are the die-hard hate Sabrina haters..and that’s okay. Just like in real life there are people we like snd click with and people we don’t. But deceit, manipulation, insincerity are not valid reasons…they’re simply not part of how this character was written.

As for Michael being hypocritical, I think it appears that way but there’s still a huge part if Michael that is, like Sabrina, honest and trysting. Instead of seeing Sabrina as some evil, dangerous woman who tried to harm his sister, he understands the temporary breakdown she hadm the grief she went through, the revenge she sought…and also realized that in the end she realized her break from reality, her complete anguish and her conscience ep which caused her to warn Ava and admit, as well as apologize for what she had done. Whether one would feel safe, or should frust her with a baby is debatable, not because she’s not good but because she be arnpms so emotionally fragile and broken…you could fear that unintentionally something could trigger that again, though I don’t it. To a judge however…probably won’t work in Michael’s favor.

I completely agree with everytthibpng zhzrry said about Morgans plot against Michael. Literally think the sam rep thing. Terrible…can’t see hoepw any of these people can come together as a family again…

You’re not going out on a limb. I totally agree with you regarding Sabrina. She really is one of the sincerest, good intentioned characters on the show. Michael is as well.

    Shay replied

@Rose….I can respect that you don’t regard Sappy as the “bane of existence” that I (and some other regulars here at MFSoaps) do. We all have our personal likes and dislikes. But I can tell you that my derision for this character dates back to “Day One.” I could never abide this sugary miss and her peculiar mix of arrogant self-righteousness and feigned innocence wrapped up in that “Ugly Betty” persona that was then “magically” transformed into an ersatz heroine-princess with all the attendant hoopla and fanfare worthy of a Disney dramedy……her “journey” has been an utterly ridiculous combination of tragedy and the absurd, all rolled into one perturbing package and the ensuing years have not softened my view of this insipid creature one iota….on the contrary, it has only deepened my original convictions and annoyance with this nuisance of a nurse. Moreover, my other issue with the Sapster has been that the actress portraying her is so woefully lacking in dramatic skills….she cannot act her way out of a paper bag. She has darkened the GH canvas for over two years now and I haven’t seen one whit of improvement in her delivery and performance techniques….for me, she is the female equivalent of RP’s Nathan, who has been roundly and regularly razzed for his wooden presence (…and yes, I am looking at you, Timmm, in addition to some others! LOL.) Hence, in the event you were previously unaware of my criticisms and the reasons for them, well, there they are in a very brief nutshell.

    Rebecca1 replied

@su…you’re right in the sense that soaps are made of this kind if stuff…but this tear between Michael and Sinny goes so deep…from Sonny keeping AJ and michael apart, poisoning Micharls Monday against AJ, threatening and finally killing AJ…the father whom Michael came to love…having sex at his crypt…now Michael taking away Sonny’s baby…and Morhsn repeating the sins of his mother by trying to make Michael appear drunk and und unfit…there’s so much betrayal all around it would be more absurd for them to reconcile than it would be for Anna to be running Around with a Faison mask on and making out with Dr. O! :)

    Rebecca1 replied

    Laurie replied

    Shay,

I don’t loathe Sabrina to the same extent that you do, but I’m more than done w/the character. I actually didn’t mind her initially, but sorry, the tripping over her lines, forgetting her lines, is tiresome, especially no more lines than she has had in the last year! It actually makes me mad & here’s why:

I don’t mind if GH hires newbies-Nathan is new, yes, he’s stiff, I guess, but he always knows his lines & he doesn’t trip over his lines. He actually HAS improved since his 1st day. I went back and reviewed. IMO, Sabrina continues to get worse.
The horrible writing w/her lighting candles & suddenly speaking like The Godfather, “don’t worry my son, justice will be mine”..WHAT? I didn’t know when we lost our minds our vocabulary changed with it! So it was bad writing that a bad actress couldn’t pull off. I 1st thought, maybe the volume is too heavy for her, but when she came back form maternity leave, she was worse, not better. Now she doesn’t have much dialogue, but clearly is still getting paid, so why not take lessons on your days off? What’s wrong with that? You have been given a gift here. You’re on a hit show w/no experience, so why not study your craft? Even Jason Thompson still studies his craft & he’s a vet.

For GH to even write this sl, Sabrina as Avery’s nanny is offensive to me! The character says she’s all better, but she’s gotten 0 therapy, just like everyone else on this show. Nothing has changed w/her. Yet, she’s all better now. Let’s just take her word for it. Nevermind she lost it a few months before that and put her wedding dress back on thinking she was back at her wedding day. She only needs a trigger. Whose to say Avery isn’t a trigger? I’m the only 1 that thought Kiki should’ve knocked her block off yesterday! I don’t think Kiki knows that Sonny put a gun to Ava’s head does she? I can’t imagine she would do be supporting Sonny or Morgan if she did. Why not try to get custody herself? What bothers me about the “let’s set Michael up” sl is why is that even necessary? He paid the judge off. Or, persuaded the judge to give him custody. Judge won’t listen to Morgan anyway. And if they took it to a higher court, why wouldn’t they just use the fact that Michael hired Avery’s attempted killer as her nanny? That’s provable. She lost her job over it. So the whole setup sl is convoluted.

All this plus Rosie is such a better actress. I feel she was pushed out of a sl w/Michael for Sabrina. Too bad. If we only get 1 female Latino on a soap at once (insert sarcasm), I prefer her.

    Rebecca1 replied

    Hi Laurie…

I like Sabrina. I don’t think she’s the most compelling character, not by a long shot. But she’s one of the few characters who is written as less caricature, more down to earth…no masks, saving the world, not a spy, an alien, a an FBI agent…just a nurse at GH. (And now not.) Yes, she had herbreakdown and went waaaaaay over the top in seeking revenge. I agree, too, that maybe, in my view not inevitably, there could be a trigger that might cause another break which should make Michael think twice. Again, I think her breaking is doubtful ; I don’t see her ever hurting a child. Even in her irrational thinking she only wanted to hurt Ava, though of course it could have had dire consequences. Sabrina herself was appalled, and confessed. No one would ever have known she deliberately gave Ava those pills…she took it upon herself to come forward.

One could argue Patrick, whom I love, should never be allowed to operate again. He too was grieving…and while operating on Rafe, a boy dying on his table, he contemplated killing him…either by faulty procedure or taking too long to continue the operation. Either way his grief was so deep and his desire for revenge so strong his ethics went out the window, his sense of right and wrong. He, too, contemplated killing a child in revenge. Though Sabrina took it a step further, she “snapped to ” and warned Ava not to take the pills. Yes, it might not have been in time, had the labor occurred, but in the end Sabrina didn’t want her plan to be carried out. Both Patrick and Sabrina were shown grief stricken and in that grief brought down to a what-if situation…what if you could avenge your child’s death.

I might be misreading you but it seems a large part of your criticism is the actress, not the character…at least as you say, at the beginning. Understood. Room for improvement but never struck me the way it does you. I’m hoping they give her a more interesting story. I do like Rosalie…thought the actress was good from her start.

    Shay replied

@Laurie….Thank you for your response. I have long enjoyed your thoughtful commentaries and keen insights here at MFSoaps, so it’s a treat to share our mutual views—and to discuss those which may be otherwise. To begin, I just wanted to clarify that in terms of Ryan Paevey, I don’t necessarily agree that he is not doing a good job or deserves the constant bashing he receives on this website….he has vastly improved during this past year ….it’s quite obvious that he takes his role seriously and has put in the time to sharpen his dramatic skills, and I commend him for that. I was merely contrasting the amount of guff he takes here for his initially stilted performances with that of the woefully deficient actress who portrays Sappy. Save for me, and one or two other brave souls, few have weighed in on this comparable topic prior to your eloquent assessment. And yet, all of your observations are absolutely spot on….I have taken like notice of them from way back when, and as you have rightfully pointed out, there has been no demonstrable upward trajectory in this person’s acting abilities since the debut of her character….she has remained totally perfunctory and amateurish….at best. While my issues with her have included the very nature of said role and what I consider to be the patently ridiculous storyline(s) surrounding it—not to mention the laughable dialogue assigned to her—my most particular grievance was with the prominent position this character was warranted from her first appearance, most certainly not an enjoyable viewing experience given her highly apparent need for the rest of the cast to act as a crutch for her extremely green attempts at drama…..her obvious lack of finesse and attention to her craft drove me to complete distraction, along with resentment that so many really fine fellow cast members were repeatedly given the short shrift in both screen time and plotlines in her favor. Having said that, I am in total agreement with your opinion of the Avery scenario….the manner in which this poor babe has been passed around like a basket of fruit since her brutally forced birth has always rubbed me the wrong way, and the latest twisted development surrounding this precious infant’s custody and care is truly one gone too far. Even though I could see this idiocy coming from a mile away, I still cannot believe that there weren’t any responsible adults in Michael’s current sphere (Monica, Tracy?) that didn’t recognize and voice what an insane (pardon the pun….) notion it was to have the insufferable she-me with the questionable grasp on reality serve as any child’s caregiver, let alone the very one she sought to eliminate before it even could draw its first breath. But hey, Sappy says it was all just a silly mistake and she’s just fine now, so that makes everything hunky-dory, right? Why is it that her lame excuses, pitiful apologies and especially, personal assurances of purportedly restored sanity, continue to be met at face value with no further verification from a qualified professional when anyone with an ounce of sense can recognize that she is still on the brink of lunacy and as you have stated, only in need of yet another trigger to send her back over the edge? Totally beggars belief, doesn’t it? No individual in a position of public trust who perpetrates such an aberrant act of abuse like the kind this nurse did in her targeting of an unsuspecting expectant Ava should ever again be allowed to look after any patient or other person following such an egregious lapse of judgment…period. (And as for that nursing license, it needs to be permanently suspended, as well!) Ergo, I also concur with you that Kiki should have gone totally ballistic on this nitwit when she was parading Miss Jerome’s baby sister around town…(Furthermore, I sincerely hope that the return to the courtroom in the subsequent quest for this child’s “best interests” will include a scathing smackdown on Mary Poppins’ dubious record of achievements.) Ditto for the chick I call “Grossalie”….while her unpleasant and abrasive nature has not endeared her to me, she was totally in the right to address the self-important Sappy in the manner she did when the so-called nanny just traipsed into Michael’s office like she owned the place….copping such an attitude with Rosie when she was simply practicing good office etiquette as the Quartermaine heir’s PA was uncalled for, and quite frankly, I would like to have seen Ms. Martinez kick that obnoxious Sapster butt all the way to the waterfront…if anyone would be up to such a task, it would most certainly be the fierce Rosalie!!!! As for future run-ins between these two, I definitely smell a cat fight coming on. I predict “Team Rosie” for the win…you go, girl!

That’s an interesting concept, Timmm. Anything that would bring back our many old favorites, like Jack Wagner, Rick Springfield, John Stamos, etc. would be alright by me! In the absence of these professionals, too many performances at the NB have simply been too amateurish, particularly last year’s, and when there are unrelated filler acts, it really ruins the mood. And by the way, may I also add that it would not go amiss to see “Mr. Michael Fairman” in a cameo appearance….perhaps interviewing the attendees????

Yes…i wish they could work it out and bring those stars back…i really didnt care that much when Ronn Moss appeared instead when he is more known for B&B…and it would be great to see MF doing the interviews!!!

Trimm i like that idea…and i agree that there arent enough medical staff at GH for the NB…

Why do they have to ruin all of GH and it’s glorious history. Why not show the original episode with the REAL characters. Sorry but Jason T and Ryan C are not vets and don’t fit nor does a remake story of GH from its glory days. I am so tired of this regime ruining my GH. Tired of ruining vets and GH stories for the writers to have a device to attract viewers. This shouldn’t happen at the expense of GH history.

Cathy, you are so right, especially regarding “this regime ruining my GH.”

OMG the Fluke thing will be over (hopefully) The anniversary show sounds fantastic I am 64 and I have been watching on and off since day one. Missed some due to school – work etc. – when I found it on soap net I was ecstatic and then with DVR I don’t have to miss anything. I remember using vacation days for Luke and Laura’s wedding.
    Looking forward to it.
