Circle this date General Hospital fans! On Wednesday, April 1st the long running ABC daytime drama series will turn 52 with an intriguing episode for its loyal audience.
So what’s on the docket? According to Michael Logan at TV Insider, plenty! Starting with an homage to the very first episode of the series which featured Dr. Steve Hardy, Nurse Jessie Brewer, and intern Phil Brewer. Of course, those roles were made famous by the legendary John Beradino, Emily McLaughlin, and Roy Thinnes. But now in a twist, GH takes a trip back in time with the roles being played by current GH cast members: Jason Thompson (Patrick Drake), Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) and Ryan Carnes (Lucas Jones).
Thompson told TV Insider that it was an honor to get into the shoes of Dr. Hardy for these throwback black and white shot sequences: “None of us took it lightly. It was a real honor to pay tribute to the cast that launched our show. Let’s face it: If they hadn’t done their jobs extremely well—if they hadn’t grabbed the attention of the audience right off the bat—none of us would be here today.” Jason also added that the show really paid attention to detail for the special scenes, which included the recreation of the seventh floor nurses station. “Every department—sets, props, costumes—did a fantastic job, and seeing it all in black and white is amazing.”
And that’s not all folks! Finally, we have been promised some answers from GH head writer Ron Carlivati on what caused Luke (Anthony Geary) to develop this alternate personality that has been previously known as Fluke! According to Logan, “It’s a shocker—make that a double shocker—and not to be missed.”
