103 December 2nd, 2014 GENERAL HOSPITAL: “So Not What You Thought!” Who Is Fluke Story Reaches Mind-Bending Proportions!

Courtesy/ABC

This week’s exciting promo for ABC’s General Hospital shows Anna (Finola Hughes) zipping off a Luke (Anthony Geary) mask off of someone and then uttering under her breath in shock, “Oh, my God!”

It also shows Fluke and Luke (we think) where it looks like one of the guys had the other hostage and is ripping off duct tape from his mouth! After Monday’s episode it would seem, could it be, there is more than one Fluke?  The suspects have grown of who could be mastermind in this mind-bending story that is behind Luke’s year long imprisonment in confinement at the Miscavige Institute.

There is runaway Larry Ashton (Hugo Napier), who is in collusion with Jerry Jacks (Sebastian Roche).  There is Cesar Faison (Anders Hove) who is on the loose, who is acting a “little odd” towards Liesl (Kathleen Gati), in that he “says’ he is over Anna and wants to be with her! And then there is the all to convenient return of Luke to his family on Thanksgiving.  Is that even the real Luke?

So many fans of the show have been guessing along the way, but now we ask you one more time, who is Fluke? What do you think is going on, given this promo below and what you have seen play out this week so far?  Share your theories below in the comment section!

Don’t care, just get it over with. I hope for all this rigamarole, that the story truly is genius, but I have my doubts.

As far as the masks go, it’s getting OLD. I liked the first time Faison had his mask stripped of him, with an assist from John McBain and Robert Scorpio. That was funny.

But when Leisl had the Anna mask, it became silly. Now this Luke mask is just redundant. Plus you would think if you were discovered with it once, twice, then you would give it up and try something else.

I just love how the masks have all these magical powers to change one’s voice and physique. It is truly astonishing.

I believe there are more masks to uncover…so far one is Faison/Luke…and im not convinced yet that the real Luke is with Tracy…another Fluke???

    Harry replied

Jim, I think the Fluke sitting with Tracy is Bill Eckert. This Fluke has a little compassion flickering in his eyes and doesn’t come off as evil as the other Fluke. Bill was never a monster.
If Bill is working in cahoots with the Trinity of Evil, I have a feeling he will double cross them and ultimately end up helping Luke.
Tony Geary was always angry with how the writers ended Bill Eckert. Maybe having Bill unite with Luke will be the current writers way of making it up to him.

Who cares are this point, seriously.. I think they threw this story together as they were writing it.. no thought at all really. Its just like this regime to take something that didn’t have an overwhelming response the first time and think we want to see it again.. These writers need to look to the future and quite bringing back old ass ratchet characters that mean nothing to MOST of the viewers today. And before some smart ass say, oh calm down its a soap.. save it.. Yes this is a soap, and clearly they have no idea how to write it.. they have a bunch of quick hit stories that in the end have no payoff for the viewers. A soap is an ongoing character driven story and somewhere along the line this regime ruined it. But you all go ahead, praise these writers for lack luster story telling.. and since they really only seem to acknowledge the fans that think GH is sooooooo good, they will continue to writer off the cuff with no thought of family, romance, friendships good story telling..

  5. MC says:

Not so mind-bending. Since “Faison” was all about Liesel, that was probably Victor. We now know that the “Fluke” in Julian’s apartment was the real Faison, And from the commercial we see that there is still another “Fluke” out there ripping the tape off of Luke. Which means that the “Luke” we are seeing at the Q’s, is actually another “Fluke” and real Luke is still stashed somewhere waiting for someone, probably Robin, to save him.

I just want them to get it over with. I don’t even know who is supposed to be the victim and I’m supposed to root for. Very little time has been spent showing the cost of these mustache-twirlers on the characters we care about.

I miss GH and love in the afternoon. When is the last time we saw any type of love story on this show?

I previously posted there were more than one Flukes…i know thats not the real Luke with Tracy…Helene wouldve never let him get away…also im believe that wasnt the real Larry and maybe Jake isnt the real Jason after all…Sally Kellerman shouldve been on this soap so she couldve uttered her famous Mash movie line: ‘This isnt a hospital!…Its an INSANE ASYLUM!’

And I am having a hard time believing that is the real Faison–can’t imagine him ever giving up on his obsession with Anna, or being sweet to Dr. O. Perhaps the whole town is wearing a mask, and there are really the cast of One Life to Live in disguise– LOL— whatever is going on, I am getting really tired of it– right now I miss the vampires and you remembered how much I hated that story.

  6. rcraig says:

My sentiments exactly. At this point this story is so ridiculous I FF through most of it. I wish I could get my hands on one of thos magical masks!!!! Over done and trite. And seriously how many lives does Helena have. Someon should should drive a stake through the place where her heart should be and then incinerate her to be sure she is once and for all, truly gone. My fear is that when this mask story is over TG will demand another one so he can go on playing the evil man. I really miss MY GH, back in the day when it was about the hospital and the PEOPLE that you cared about.

I actually liked the Fluke/Luke story to start with, but it is now getting dragged out to the point where I don’t really care any more…I just want it to be over. I don’t agree with those who think the writers don’t know what they’re doing…I think it’s very deliberately written and developed, but too “campy” for many and tptb should maybe take into account that many viewers prefer well developed character investment, relationships, romance rather than plot driven storytelling. Isn’t there room for both?

For awhile during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the show it was exciting and moving rapidly along. Now there are almost too many characters on the show and it’s dragging. I agree with all those who are tired of these campy “mask” story lines. GH was only “must-see-TV” when it concentrated on romantic couples like Luke&Laura, Frisco&Felicia, Robert&Anna, Patrick&Robin, OMG, remember Brenda&Jax?! Where are the COUPLES?! The only pair that thrills me right now is Maxie&Nathan. But when is the last time we saw them together? Not during “sweeps”, that’s for sure! It’s all about Sonny (as usual), and the characters Carlivati created, which, except for Nathan, I could not care less about. If GH ever wants to be #1 again, it will get back to the romance & adventure story lines that made them famous.

Dark Shadows.. was king of campy and far out fiction..
to this day Dark Shadows has a following and everybody who ever watched Dark Shadows praises it and remembers most every campy story..
    Dark Shadows still has conventions..
Star Trek.. another king of camp..
From 1964 to this very day it is still going strong and revered by millions of fans of all ages.. star trek campy fiction that is still going strong since 1964..
As are ALL the superheroes all over whelming campy..
TV’s Batman comes to mind as does Superman campy hero/show…
    Campy has never gone out;
campy is like Rock&Roll it will never die..

Y&R has sappy campy, over kill on the sappy..
    and[
All soaps have some deep stories and some heartfelt stories and even some meaningful stories, with GH some are fun stories, and every single soap is ”’campy” .. and GH does it bigger and better than all the soaps!

If you want romance and candle light do not watch GH, it is not for you..
Watch Y&R it is full of sappy campy love gone wrong boring stuff..
GH is an action soap, heavy on suspense, mystery, intrigue, action, and the best damned campy intrigue of any soap.. GH is not a love and flowers and sappy love songs..
People have to watch what suits them ;)

    Also..
GH does have love storys, good love stories, sweet to intriguing love stories, thing is they are sappy crappy :)

The most remembered were the ones that were not ordinary, the odd ones, they were intense.. ) intriguing, intense, involved, and lovenly sweet and deep..
and there are GH love stories that have endured decades..

    Nicole replied

I have to disagree regarding Star Trek, did i it have campy elements yes, but the stories were analogies and there were real life social points underneath that camp that Roddenberry was telling through the original Star Trek and The Next Generation. In other words you got something out of it.

The Batman of the 60′s was the only out and out campy version. Tim Burton of course had campy elements, but on the whole from the original comics to Gotham camp is the least thing Batman is known for Batman is dark.

I don’t mind a little camp now and again, but GH now is overdosing on it, and as a result the rating for the target demo is dropping like a rock.

Audiences are different now and 80′s style camp isn’t what sells (exceptions being Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder) especially on a daily basis.

    maddiehayes replied

Carlivati is a fan of GH’s ’80s heyday, unfortunately, he forgets that the “Left-handed Boy” and “Ice Princess” storylines wouldn’t have been NEARLY as popular without Luke and Laura. Not just Luke, not just Laura, but the SUPERCOUPLE. I enjoy some campiness, but it’s tedious without the heart and soul. Not saying GH doesn’t have some tender moments, but they need more. They need a couple that SIZZLES.

    Harry replied

Yes, but SU00, those daytime stories didn’t rely entirely on one prop.
Even Michael Logan, who adores GH and Ron as much as you do, Tweeted that the masks are indicative of lazy writing.
It’s not even comic book camp–it’s Scooby Doo corn ball.

  15. Nick D. says:

I am holding out big hopes for this story – I am confident Ron will deliver. I think the masks are something of a red herring – a “wrinkle” on top of the main story, if you will. I believe this because Ron said in an interview a while back that after Olbrecht in the Anna mask, ABC told him “enough with the masks” – so I think Faison wearing the Luke mask is not the real solution to the Fluke mystery – rather it is a tip of the hat to Ron’s mask stories but the real solution to Fluke is not a mask.

That’s just my prediction and I may well be wrong – maybe ABC told Ron in the interim “more masks!” and we never heard about that LOL. Either way it is an enjoyable story and I’ll keep watching with my Franco Reddenbacher popcorn!

I think the story would’ve concluded a while ago but Anthony Geary was recovering from multiple surgeries. I appreciate the fact that now that he has returned, TPTB are wrapping this up rather quickly. That said, I want them to rip of the mask and it be Alice or maybe Cameron (Elizabeth’s son) on stilts. Let’s just make it all out ridiculous. I mean after weather machines and embryo snatchings, GH can do pretty much whatever it wants.

I like this idea. Anna tears off the mask. It’s Alice. She goes on a rampage. When she is about to execute Kiki, Morgan shoots Alice; and she dies sprawled on the steps of the Quartermaine mansion. As the family prepares to inter her in the Quartermaine family crypt, they hear a noise behind the wall. Ned finds release. The false door opens, and there is Alice, bound and gagged, and with her original and healthy heart. Fluke/Alice was Alice’s evil twin sister Agatha; who was being controlled by the gangster heart implanted within her. I agree with Kevin. This story has dragged on far too long. It can only be redeemed by absurdity and humor.

Wait a minute… there’s 3 Lukes now?! The real one (who had the tape over his mouth), and two Flukes? Lord, this is getting way overboard. I’ve really enjoyed the past several weeks, when Jerry returned, and was shown to be in cahoots with Helena, then Larry came back, and then Faison… but now, the reveal just needs to happen. Seriously. And I thought whoever the real Fluke is, Julian said he made it seem like he had plastic surgery, and wasn’t wearing a mask… but apparently there is a Luke mask now…

My guesses at this point are Faison, Harlan Barrett, or Frank Smith. The only thing with Faison is that if it were him, he would have been after Anna the whole time, not Kiki or Tracy. Also, what’s up with Faison turning his back on Anna for good and taking up with Liesl? It makes me think this Faison isn’t even Faison, maybe it’s Victor? But again, another damn mask?!

As for Fluke, I’m leaning towards Harlan Barrett, but he supposedly died… I guess that doesn’t really matter on GH though. Frank Smith could also be an option, but what does he have against Sonny?

  28. davidevansmith says:

I’m still holding onto hope about Bill Eckert being the “real Fluke”.

    What we know:
-He was introduced as having been backing Julian with Barrett Enterprises, that Julia gave him. Eckert was in a relationship with Julia and co-ran B.E. with Julia back in the day.

-He had lecherous intentions toward a much-younger Kiki Jerome. This doesn’t particularly point to anyone, but since Eckert’s “death” in 1993, anything could have happened to his personality, so it doesn’t particularly discount Eckert. But it doesn’t discount Faison either. Or Larry Ashton.

-He referred to Britt as a “hot piece of ass” to Nikolas, which would seemingly discount Faison, since he’s Britt’s father. That crosses him off my list.

-He slept with Tracy Quartermaine at least once as Luke, and she couldn’t apparently tell it wasn’t Luke. That might speak for Larry Ashton being Fluke, since he had slept with her before and would know how to seduce her. I would think that would speak more for Bill Eckert, and less Faison, because of build and height and state of mind. Ashton fits Luke’s physical build more than Faison also. Faison is evil, but a bit more erratic than the more calculating Fluke we’ve seen all this time. So this clue could point to Ashton or Eckert.

-He has a vendetta against Sonny Corinthos. As yet, none of the Fluke candidates have reason to want to take down Sonny. Aside from attempting to kill Jason, Faison has shown no interest in Sonny’s downfall. Still no idea why Faison would want to take down Sonny. Larry Ashton either. BUT Bill Eckert was gunned down and “killed” by the Frank Smith mob when he was mistaken for Luke. Frank Smith’s mob was absorbed/taken over by Sonny Corinthos. So there’s a semi-motive for Bill Eckert to have it out for both Sonny AND Luke, since he “died” in Luke’s place at the hands of men who ended up working for Sonny.

-He is in league with Faison, Jerry Jacks, Helena Cassadine, and Larry Ashton. This doesn’t necessarily discount Faison or Ashton, or Jacks, but the common thread is we’ve all seen their parts of this. If there is still a surprise reveal to be had around Fluke, then Eckert is the missing piece. Ashton and Faison were also tied together in the evil cartel in the early 90s with Harlan Barrett (CEO of Barrett Enterprises… who was killed by… Bill Eckert). So this could be a reunion or extension of that cartel. Those pieces all fit.

-The Fluke that came to kill Julian had an accent leaking through his spoken word. That was the first I detected an accent on Fluke, so as a setup to reveal Faison, that makes sense. But conflicts with Fluke making a lewd statement about Britt. And also wouldn’t explain why Helena was so content to leave Luke alive at Miscavige for Alexis and Julian to free if he was the real Luke.

If we step back and think of the over-arching chronology of the story, back to Faison’s original recent return, there’s a lot of connections…

-Faison kidnaps Robin, faking her death, to destroy Anna and make her vulnerable to him, while he masquerades as Duke behind a mask.
-Faison has had Duke captive for 20 years in a Turkish prison, where Luke was also held captive.
-Helena poisons Luke with Polonium, which Jerry is also poisoned with.
-Jerry poisons the Port Charles water supply to ransom a cure in order to gain the money HE needs to buy his own cure for his poisoning.
-Luke shoots and kills Helena. But Helena pre-made a video warning him about the poisoning. Luke has to go after Jerry hoping to gain the cure for himself. Julian and Ava spirit Jerry out of town, revealing their acquaintance with Jerry.
-Luke nearly dies on Cassadine island, where Tracy gives Luke the cure and helps him escape.
-Lulu was kidnapped to Cassadine island, where Stavros (not dead) was planning to marry and impregnate her, and he fell in love with her when spying her rescue Luke from the Turkish prison (where Luke and Duke were each held).
-Jerry interferes with the rescue of Robin from Faison/Obrecht, and kidnaps Robin himself, to the Cassadine compound, to synthesize a cure for his poisoning from Luke’s blood.
-Helena is frozen in the compound, and when Robin finally cures Jerry, she is rescued by Nikolas and returns home, only to be blackmailed by Victor Cassadine into resurrecting Helena and Stavros again, but bribed into complying by revealing Jason is alive and frozen as well. (Jason who was “killed” and dumped off a dock by Faison)
-Lulu was unfrozen but rendered sterile, but her previously harvested embryos (one miscarried by Maxie, one carried to term by Britt, one ending up at Crichton-Clark clinic that Victor was running while also director of the WSB) still had life left in them.
-Stavros and Helena are thawed again, but Stavros is killed again, Victor is killed a first time, and Helena makes off with Jason, Robin, and Lulu’s embryo. Robin is forced to stay away from Patrick over her guilt that Victor masterminded the car accident that killed Patrick and Sabrina’s baby.
-Helena is apparently back in cahoots with Faison, not long after being thawed out, and however long since Faison escaped the hole Robert/Anna placed him in.
-Fluke has been bankrolling/masterminding the Jerome crime family to destroy Sonny’s empire, and when the ruse starts to fall apart, Luke is supposedly a captive of Jerry, but he’s not, he’s still at Miscavige, and when Tracy pays Jerry for Luke’s release in shares of ELQ stock (which the Jeromes wanted when they came to town to use as a way to launder their mob money and when trying to pass Kiki off as a Quartermaine when Franco was thought to be a Quartermaine), instead of getting Luke back, Tracy receives Larry Ashton, a former cohort of Faison’s.

When you really follow the story back to Robin’s initial faked death, it’s a hell of an umbrella story, with implications across the entire canvas, the Spencers, Cassadines, Scorpios, Drakes, Quartermaines, Jeromes, and Corinthoses. It’s actually all one big story. I don’t think anyone has been untouched by this one big story. Every character has been tied to it.

A great recap and boy when you break this all down, this is one hell of a story. I hope the payoff is big to go with the effort that has been written these past couple years.

As strange as this storyline is – there is one aspect I quite enjoy . So many of our old-favorites (or in Larry Ashton’s case just forgotten) characters all being brought together under one large umbrella is superb! To meld Luke, Julian/Ava Jerome, Helena/Victor/Stavros Cassadine, Jerry Jacks, Heather Webber, Franco, Jason, Anna, Duke, Robin and Faison – just to name a few into such broad, over-lapping and intertwined storylines is genius. Much better than simply Cassadine/Spencer or a newbie story we couldn’t care less about. It has provided a great opportunity to team up so much evil.

I think this is a great story. People who are griping about the length of this arc need to reset their buttons and realize it was due to the fabulous Tony Geary’s ill health that the story was delayed. No need to gripe; on one’s fault and we had plenty to keep us entertained until this could pick up again. I desperately want to know who this Fluke mastermind is and why they’re doing what they’re doing. But in the meantime, I am blown away by the subtle differences Mr. Geary is giving to each of his characters. I’ve notices stiffness in the “real” Luke supposedly at the Q mansion that makes me wonder if he’s the real deal. And then there was the sudden slight accent on the supposed “Fluke” at Julian’s penthouse. With all the baddies on the scene, the possibilities are endless. And in all my years of watching soaps, I don’t remember ever seeing a “mystery” like this have so many red herrings. I’m totally enjoying what they’re doing; it’s great escapism!

The real Luke is the real Luke, Bill Eckert is in a Larry Ashton Mask, and Faison has a Luke Mask.

Or Fluke is Damian Smith, but I’m kind of married to my original theory.

    Oh, I get it now!

So why stop at this fake Luke and fake Duke masks. I just betcha it was someone wearing an AVA mask when Connie was murdered. Or wait! Maybe it wasn’t even Connie, but someone else wearing a CONNIE mask.

Or still yet, maybe it was not AJ that was killed, maybe it was a someone else wearing a mask. Oh, or how about it wasn’t Sonny who shot AJ, but someone wearing a SONNY mask.

    Pffft ………….

Anthony Zacharra was shot to death ON-SCREEN by Johnny, with multiple bullets, and laid on the floor of Johnny’s penthouse for what seemed like days while Johnny came to grips with what he did. Then his body got moved to the Q boathouse to frame Tracy and Luke, before Heather then picked him up and carted his body around for even more hours/days before finding a place to bury him. I don’t see where in that timeline he could have gotten the medical attention needed to survive in order to come back as fake Luke. And he couldn’t be more removed from anything currently going on on the series.

Oh come on now, davidevansmith, couldn’t it be possible that the MAN that Johnny shot was just some guy wearing an Anthony Zacharra MASK? :-)

    davidevansmith replied

LMAO… CLEARLY this poster is Bill Eckert, trying to throw suspicion off himself and onto long-dead Anthony Z!!

    Harry replied

Bill, I sort of thought Anthony Zachara was the bad Fluke. Fluke could barely contain his disdain for Tracy and Anthony was pretty angry with her at the time of his death. Plus, Anthony was a lecherous old man, hence his making a pass at Kiki. And Johnny is slated to be coming back for a few episodes.
But the person sitting on the couch with Tracy right now is a nicer Luke, hence, he’s Bill Eckert. So, that would make two Flukes in masks (Anthony and Faison), on Bill Eckert who doesn’t need a mask and one Luke. Oh dear God, I think Ron is gas lighting all of us. I feel like I am going to lose my mind if I give this one more thought. My hair hurts.

I thought it was Anthony Zachara, too. I don’t really see why he hates Sonny as much as he does; he has other interests. Luke’s just not Luke, so Bill makes sense. Luke should be really ticked off, and he’s not.

I am so tired of Fluke-Luke. It lasted too long, the suspense is long gone for me. There are other interesting stories, that got my attention. Who’s Fluke? I really don’t care.

Faison is half the size of LUKE so I’m not sure how that was supposed to fly in that scene. I think it may have been a last minute thing to throw us off. Who knows. The story went on way too long though…I realize tony was ill and just came back but its just drawn out….now it seems rushed and thrown together to me.

Also this thing with Duke and Anna….. she threw Faison in a dungeon, to rot in hell, …. and she is judging Duke, the love of her life, and walking away from him because of his mob connections? HUH? Does this not seem bizarre?

Not to me. Faison kidnapped her daughter, tortured Anna on numerous occasions, tricked her into physical affection while he was masked, and held a man she loves captive for years and years. Being in the mob is essentially promoting the very crimes committed against her. She’s a victim ten times over & just wants the victimization to end.

I do like that she’s being investigated – very real. Too bad Obrecht didn’t have the same type of investigation – lol

I don’t know who FLuke is but I figured it wasn’t the the real Luke Alexis found at the asylum because Helena was holding a knife to the real Luke’s throat right before Alexis got there. AND, I feel sorry for Tracey because she keeps sleeping with Fluke. She won’t trust the real Luke when he gets back. My thoughts on who shot AJ (dead or alive now?) wasn’t Sonny. I think it will be proved that one of the Flukes/Larry Ashton/Faison/Helena/Jerry Jax/ etc. shot him and made it appear it was Sonny. Ava had Sonny so riled up that day he probably wouldn’t have known if he shot him or not and Ava told him he did so he thought he did because he had a gun in his hand.

Unless they plan on dumping Maurice Benard from the cast, they are going to have to find Sonny was not the one who shot AJ, or AJ is not dead, or have Sonny turn State’s evidence or something. Otherwise, they are writing Maurice and Maura West into corners not to mention destroying what little respect their characters have left.

I agree. Not that I’m an Ava fan but I do like Sonny. I know he is a “gangster” but he is a good father and a good friend.

I think the story is fascinating. None of us know who Fluke really is–and isn’t that the point of soaps? To keep us in suspense? Sure it’s lasted a long time–but most of that was due to Geary’s health issues.

Why is everyone so impatient? I don’t even like the Luke character and I’m interested.
