108 February 26th, 2015 General Hospital Surges To Over One Year High In Total Viewers; Including Most-Watched Episode In More Than A Year!

Courtesy/ABC

ABC’s only daytime soap opera, General Hospital showed its strength in the latest ratings for the week of February 16th through February 20th, 2015.  The drama series scored big with the audience bringing in some of its best numbers in over a year in total audience and key demos.

GH surged to an over 1-year high in Total Viewers (3.186 million) and over 8-month highs in Women 18-49 (665,000/1.0 rating) and Women 25-54 (889,000/1.5 rating) – since the weeks of 1/6/14 and 6/9/14, accordingly – ranking as the week’s No. 2 drama in daytime in Women 18-49.

And in addition, the week’s Monday episode which featured the final scenes of Kristen Alderson as Kiki Jerome and her last moments with longtime screen partner, Roger Howarth as Franco, as well as Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Julian (William deVry) finally getting together, Olivia (Lisa LoCicero) faced with telling Ned (Wally Kurth) she is pregnant, and the continuation of Bradford Anderson as Damian Spinelli announcing to Maxie (Kirsten Storms) that he is back in Port Charles, because he still has feeling for her, garnered the soap its most watched telecast in over a year with 3.421 million viewers, and in close to 1-year in Women 18-49 (804,000/1.3 rating) and over 8-months in Women 25-54 (1.016 million/1.7 rating) – since 1/28/14, 3/25/14 and 6/9/14, respectively.

What do you think about the ratings performance of General Hospital? And, the most-watched episode in over a year? Comment below!

Honestly, this is nothing but spin from an ABC press release. They use words like “soar” and “surge” but there is no truth to them. The ratings are just about identical to what they were two weeks ago, 3.156 million total viewers, 639 18-49 and 874 25-54.

This is just spin to try and mitigate the numbers that CBS put out. Not only is GH trailing both B&B and Y &R by 1,000,000 and 2.4 million total viewers respectively, a gap that has increased, Y&R and B&B have shown more growth in the last year, which is the important measurement.

GH is up 147,000 in total viewers from the same time last year.
    B&B and Y&R are up over 350,000.
Y&R & B&B are up in all three demos from last year, 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54. An increase across the board.

GH is DOWN in all three demos from last year. That’s DOWN.

It is what it is. Maybe these are decent numbers for GH, maybe ABC is happy, who knows but them?

But all ABC did, was put out a press release that used words like “surge” and “soar” and spun a few numbers. The reality is that GH is DOWN in all demos with a modest gain in total viewers in the last year and their CBS competition is UP in all demos with more significant gains in total viewers. I don’t see GH “soaring” or “surging,” but props to whoever wrote the press release.

GH50, give it a rest, seriously. All negativity from you all the time. It’s like turning on the radio and hearing the same song over and over on a continuous loop. The show is up nearly 1 million viewers from the mess and verge of cancellation that it was on when Farren-Phelps and Guza were relieved of their duties, and Valentini and Carlivati took over. Only you would attempt to spin these numbers as a negative.

    GH50 replied

Dan, Michael Fairman reported on an ABC press release and then asked what we thought about it. He didn’t ask people to just pat GH on the back and repeat the spin. Michael Fairman invites all perspectives and encourages intelligent points of view, whatever the position is. You somehow feel the need to try and shut down that discussion when it is not to your liking. I really don’t understand it.

First, to your point, the show is not up 1 million viewers and it is actually down in demos from that time. GH was between 2.5 and 2.6 million viewers when Guza was “relieved” as you say in July of 2011 and approx. 700,000 in 18-49.So you should really get your facts straight. Why you or anyone else feels the need to exaggerate any gains is something that I don’t quite understand.

Second, what did I say other than the truth? “Soaring” and “Surging” are not applicable here just because ABC uses the words in a press release. That’s their job. But it doesn’t mean that I’m not able to actually read the facts and see through it. I’m not spinning the numbers negatively, I’m presenting them factually. If you would like to read the headline of a corporate public relations document and amplify the spin, then go ahead. Unlike, you telling me to give it a rest, I think you should be able to say whatever you want.

My post, was about the spin and the exaggeration. Why shouldn’t they be called out on that? Why isn’t the current state of GH enough for them to tout honestly?

    Chris replied

Dan, quite frankly, YOU are the one who needs to give it a rest and pipe down already. GH50 above is merely stating black and white ratings facts and giving his/her take on those facts. Nothing more than that. It’s perfectly fine to disagree, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask to do it in a respectful way, without being rude in return. If you can’t handle that, then you really should do something else with your time. God forbid, someone has the audacity to not heap gushing praise on GH and kiss Ron Carlivati’s and Frank Valentini’s behinds.

Love Tyler Christopher’s hospital scenes. They were all Emmy worthy scenes!
The last scenes with Roger Howarth & Kristin Alderson were so sweet! I also love Franco calling Nina Phyllis & connecting the Wisconsin thing. LOL Great acting from the GH cast.

That being said I think that since the ratings have not been this high since January 2014. It shows that some of these story lines must be wrapped up cause they are going on to long even for a soap. Wrap it up let Jason remember & the mystery of Luke’s childhood move fast!

Let’s talk about Su. She is the most loyal, persevering fan of GH….more than anyone. My point? All her posts speak positively positivity….never a negative remark. Su is definitely not in the minority of posters who complain. She neither complains nor does she rarely posts…just the opposite….she posts every chance she gets.
Thus, AJ, there goes your theory…..
If we just sat back and watched, then there would be no need for this site, no?

    Chris replied

AJ, here’s some advice: If you enjoy GH and don’t want to read any bit criticism of the show, then do something else with your free time. I know it’s crazy, but people actually do have different opinions about the show, and those people are encouraged/entitled to air their thoughts out on threads like this. I didn’t realize that every person watching GH had to be in love with every plot line, or else they’re not a real fan of the show. What’s wrong with constructive criticism?

    Rebecca1 replied

To whom it may concern….and that goes for different opinions on the Nina/Ava baby kidnapping story.

  3. Laurie says:

I say it’s because Jason remembered who he was! The fact that he lost that memory after surgery is both annoying and insulting to viewers. My thinking is that that will not last long, so I’m giving them a few more days. If it lasts more than days laters, GH is seriously abusing Jason fans and the amazing Billy Miller.
I say YEA and YAY for General Hospital and February sweeps! February sweeps, to me, wasn’t pushed as hard as November’s Hallowedding sweeps, which was the best sweeps by any soap I’ve ever seen. I actually really enjoyed that GH’s February sweeps were a bit more low-key and relationship centered, w/the exception of the bomb on the boat.

I love the some that have been on sidelines lately, like Kiki & Franco, had that amazing last seen and over 3.4 million folks saw it! I’m sure the reunion of #Julexis and Ned finally choosing the right woman with Olivia really, really spiked the ratings. I think sometimes the writers underestimate how popular #Julexis is, or at least they have in the past.
A ratings spike with a return is always a great thing-Spinelli we love you! Also, please note that spike was with a good guy! Not everything has to be about villains. I love knowing Spin will be around to mix it up with Jason!!

I hear the 2 CBS soaps had amazing weeks last week as well. I haven’t seen Days ratings yet, but I certainly hope they have spiked. The show has so much potential and many fine actors. We must save our soaps!!!

I think that Billy Miller is an incredible actor. I love the compassion and sensitivity he has brought to the role as Jake-son, when not under Helena’s mind control. I hope that the writers have Jake remember his life as a Quartermaine while having to rectify his life as a mobster. I’d love to see the Quartermaine’s-front burner.

I truly appreciate the soap’s hills and valleys….( no, Shay, I am not referring to Alexis, LOL.)

I can clearly see why Kiki’s and Franco’s last scene together rose to the top. It was exceptionally emotional. Those of us who look upon Starr/Kirsten as Todd’s/Roger’s daughter will always have a place in our hearts for them. For me, the scene was momentous and bittersweet.
From my vantage point, Roger was letting Kristen go with his blessings. It was so obvious how much these two love each other. We saw it in every gesture, every soft look, every shed and unshed tear.

Needless to say, those viewers who reserve a certain amount of rancor for either or both actors/characters are glad to see Kiki/Kristen go.
But, we will all agree the good-bye scene was not only a paragon of good writing, but also heart-warming.

How apropos that Franco’s farewell to Kikki occurred in this most-watched episode!! Definitely agree that GH should have kept these characters together as father and daughter; Roger and Kristen are indeed ratings gold. At least, GH provided a memorable and moving tribute to their magical history.
Loving the Franco LSD trip–and his brilliant faking. Hopefully, he will really be OK soon and he and Nina can pursue their uniquely enchanting and captivating love story. Roger Howarth has been my favorite (soap) actor for 20 years and I rejoice that he has GH’s spotlight from which to dazzle its audience. Enjoyed his scenes with Olivia; the pizza theme was hilarious–and I cannot wait to see Franco use the newly-acquired knowledge of Julian being her baby’s daddy to his advantage. Congratulations, GH!!!!

    Shay replied

Very amusing, CeeCee!!!! Did you perchance notice today that once again Alexis showed up in her best tarted-up “courtroom attire” displaying her “h&v’s” in all their dubious glory? (Rhetorical question….that woman reliably cannot contain her exhibitionist tendencies, no matter the occasion….) Ah yes…it was a repetitive Friday in many ways….we were forced to suffer through but another round of Nina’s hyperbolic histrionics…feigned or otherwise, and Franco kept the game going with his phony “rantics”….although he certainly hit upon the truth when he kept invoking the name of “Phyllis from Wisconsin”…..that’s EXACTLY the character to which we’ve been subjected for these lo so many months, and I remain strong in my conviction that I want her sent back to said home state!!!!! Whether faking their psychotic conditions or not, these two mental misfits and their transparent tangents are just too much to bear….rather than creating a synergistic effect, the diabolical duo’s pairing is more akin to an overkill of outrageousness….time to separate the “sterile cuckoo” and her “tortured artiste in shining armor” permanently, otherwise, I shudder to think what their next caper could entail….perhaps absconding with another yet-to-be newborn for the barren Phyllina , this time Julivia’s? Say it ain’t so! As for NuKiki, I am wholly unimpressed….she is but another generic-blonde-soapbabe that’ll undoubtedly attract far more male attention than the previously more down-to-earth KA, but the fact is that the undefined character was always the problem, not the actress inhabiting the role. I’m still bored. As for the fond farewell between RoHo and his little “Starr,” yes, it was quite touching and well-played…a lovely valentine to the OLTL fans that followed their favorites over to GH, although I don’t know that any temporary bump in the ratings can necessarily be attributed to these fine performers, no matter how well-crafted their scene was….I think the wallop of winter weather is probably the most likely and logical explanation for any upsurge in viewership. (Well, that and perhaps the Luke/Fluke non-reveal that has left me referring to the singularly motley miscreant as simply “Puke.”) Furthermore, for those who wish to credit the same old cycle of break-up, make-up nooky ala Julian and Alexis, I say if that makes one’s boat float, they truly need to get a life instead of copping vicarious thrills from these two immature, co-dependent drama/sex junkies. P.S. Personally, I most enjoyed the return of Spinelli and the far-too-fleeting resurgence of Diane Miller, Lady Lawyer Extraordinaire!!!! The Port Charles’ “oldies” really were the “goodies” when it came to the past week’s standout appearances.

Hi ediebailey… I LOVED the way you referred to Franco and Nina’s growing relationship as uniquely enchanting and captivating. I totally agree. From the first time these two were paired with each other in the hospital art room they just fit. Physically, they are gorgeous together…and their individual quirks, psyches, troubled histories bind them in a way that makes you really feel like it’s them against the world. When Franco risked his life to save Carly he was thanked with betrayal. Now, in an act once again of incredible concern and affection..he put himself at risk to be near Nina …and she gave up her freedom to stay by him as she promised. By the looks of it their little love nest might get tossed in the wind a bit when Nina realizes he was faking his looney bird impersonation…but I have no doubt they’ll get past it. Lovin’ them!

    Shay replied

@rebecca1…..Well, once again we see things in a totally different way. Although RoHo is an undeniably attractive man, I have always been far more taken with his talent than his potential as eye candy. To me, his looks are almost incidental in comparison to his dramatic/comedic capabilities, although I will say that I, for one, was so relieved to see him shed that hideously distracting scar when “Todd’s” time on GH came to an end. For that reason, and many others, I actually prefer Howarth in the role of Franco, despite the missteps that the showrunners have taken with the character. Having said that, I have yet to see any actress equal or enhance his appeal through a coupling. It didn’t happen with Carly, and it certainly has not with this annoying post-Phylllis MS. There is something about her that I cannot exactly define, but I simply find her so off-putting….it’s more than just what I consider to be her overwrought acting style…there is an almost otherworldly, chilling vibe about this chick. It’s freaky and bizarre, thus, the notion that Nina the Nutter will ever be anything but is an unfathomable proposition for me. She’s crazy as a loon, and always will be. What Franco truly needs to be redeemed is the love of a good, normal woman…someone like the lovely Liz, even though I am not currently suggesting her as “The One,” given her own romantic possibilities at this time. But at one point during his hospitalization (with the brain tumor) when she was his “Angel of Mercy” I could have definitely seen them bonding over their love of art. In retrospect, I probably could have also pictured him with Britt, since they were both brilliant outcasts who sought to reform themselves in the eyes of society…just think how happy that pairing would have made “Mutter!” But Franco and Nina in some loved-up scenario is just an unacceptable notion for me….it gives me the creeps.

    k/kay replied

@Shay boy have I forgotten how much I enjoy your posts! You go girl and as for MS my understanding is GT/Phyliss is doing quite well and fitting in over At Y&R with a lot less drama. i never watch GH on the days she is on too much scenery chewing!

    Shay replied

Seems “they” are on permanent display in the courtroom as part of the Davis defense team, jimh! But along with CeeCee (on another thread) I also noticed the uncharacteristic modesty displayed the other day by Alexis in her Julian afterglow. Either it was mighty cold at his place or she was hiding something under that blanket, although what, I cannot even guess, given that Mr. Jerome’s already seen it all time….and time….and time…..again!!!! LOL…..And yes, it was pretty significant that even as sturdy a soul as Diane was taken aback by Puke’s demented ferocity, but with a little luck, Ms. Miller will again grace Port Charles with her presence….Rick Lansing is simply no substitute for this lady legal eagle and her irrepressible charm.

    Rebecca1 replied

Shay..my love of the Franco/Nina pairing had nothing to do with your post before mine…in which you (once again expressed your extreme dislike for Michelle/Nina. Thus, no need to reiterate your feelings on the actress or couple to me….I get it. (By the way, I was unfamiliar with MS and initially despised Nina. But I like loyalty, vulnerability and the history of her story. I like little boy and little girl lost who can become a formidable couple. Almost everyone on GH is screwed up in some way. Criminals run amuck as does mental illness (and I say this with no disrespect for the various forms of this disease.) my point is Sonny is bipolar, Connie and now Luke has multiple personalities, our much-loved and lamented AJ was an alcoholic, Rick likes to kidnap women, half the characters are criminals. So, Franco and Nina fit right in…only the other “inmate” residents of Port Charles think not. It is possibly because they are both so ostracized that I find them so poignant together. They “get” each other….they saved each other. Neither of the potential matches you mentioned would have that dynamic. Yes, Nina is still over the top…but she toned down in her private moments with Franco as she reached out to assure him she’d stay by him. I liked the ease she felt and I felt watching as she hopped on the bed with him…with a stripping of boundaries and acting on impulse…which is a characterization of both these characters…their coupling seems natural and real for me. As for Roger!s looks….have you seen this guy’s body, lol. Loved him with his long hair in the early Todd days, and even now I’d like it a little longer….but I think their long, lean bodies and coloring make them a great looking couple. As for either being crazy…both lash out when they’re hurt…does Sonny putting AJ on a meat hook ring a bell, Ava killing how many people in her life? Helena, Julian, Sean, Luke, Faison, Johnny…difference is Nina and Franco aren’t cold blooded killers…they’re wounded souls…with a lot of personality to boot! I like Franco…and see the good in him….like, lol, Kiki does. As for Nina, she’s no more overplayed than Heather, Anthony Zacchara, Stavros…yet there’s a method to Nina and Franco’s madness…can be a very interesting, fun couple to develop. And, yes. I know you disagree. Til our next disagreement….sigh and ;)

While that would make for a nifty piece of wish-fulfillment, Mike, I think the truth will be far less spectacular and fantastic. From what I’ve gleaned online, Pat is not going to be some super glamorous soap queen, although we can always live in hope to the contrary. Apparently, she is described as a humble, blue-collar type, perhaps even careworn and tough? In that case, I could see Susan Flannery in the role, although I don’t know if she would abandon her retirement to appear on a non-Bell show. I suppose Erika Slezak could fill the bill, too, since the character sounds far more Nikki Smith than Victoria Lord, yet she seems almost too obvious a choice for Pat, given Ron C.’s propensity for using his old OLTL-ers, not to mention, previous soap stars with a built-in fan base. However, I’m desiring a more wild-card choice….someone truly unexpected.

So that ‘amorous’ interlude at the poor-imitatin-of-a-pier between Fluke and Helena was just a show of sisterly affection?
Yes, jimh, you have been saying that Patricia is Helena for quite a while now. Sounds crazy enough to be true. You are very often right, anyway. Insanity and schizophrenia must run in the family.

Tis true, CeeCee….That strangely familiar moment on “the pier” with Luke and Helena absolutely smacked of carnality…..it was disturbing enough in its ordinary context to those of us privy to their years of complete and utter enmity, but adding in the possibility of a familial link between the two creates an even more revolting dimension. I certainly hope the show runners don’t go there, and from what I have read, they won’t…There’s to be another entirely different actress who will be revealed as Patricia. Your suggestion of Victoria Wyndham is certainly an intriguing one….there are so many wonderful grand dames of defunct soaps from which to choose if that is the direction they intend to go….Linda Dano, Kim Zimmer (not my favorite…), even Marj Dusay, who interestingly enough was Constance Towers’ nemesis on “Capitol.” I could also picture Gloria Loring or Judith Light if she would agree to once again appear on daytime. It is supposed to be a short-term role regardless of whom is cast.

P.S. Just thought of Joanna Cassidy. Love her, and as a redhead, she would be the perfect “big sis” for Bobbie!!!!

I like to think that the real Helena has been dead for years and Patricia is a fake Helena…someone, maybe a Cassidine, had kidnapped Patricia, got her reconstructive surgery to look like Helena, and used mind contol on her and implanted Helene’s memories to make her think she really is the Cassidine matriarch…to carry out their sinister plans…showing Luke some ‘sisterly affection’ could be a sign that Patricias memories are struggling to return…maybe Nic isnt really the goody goody Cassidine we all think he is and is behind it all? Maybe there isnt even a Patricia and she is part of Lukes personality that came out when he was very young and Bobbi knows this but is desperate to help keep it a family secret…p.s. how did you know insanity and schizophrenia runs in my family…lol…ok, i know what you meant but sometimes my whole family really do seem unbalanced, and all their drama is driving me crazy…lol

wow, people have really let their definition of “success” slip. The show’s ratings haven’t grown in the past year; they basically caught up to where they were before. So basically, they spent the last 51 weeks at a deficit. It would be interesting to see a survey of how long people have been watching these shows. I bet you the majority of GH watchers have been watching for decades. The number of new viewers who started watching in the past 1-3 years is probably very minimal. The flux you see in the ratings is just former fans floating in and out depending on outside forces like the recession and weather. I bet you the spike in numbers probably has as much to do with the bad weather in the Northeast, as it did with anything that was on screen.

I would say; a million more viewers is a very good (considering all the soaps are not getting a rush of new viewers..

That’s the irony. The writers think that writing fast-paced stories will keep the viewers drawn to the show. But it doesn’t work that way with soaps. With soaps, it’s all about history and small moments and long-term character arcs. The best way to keep the audience is to play to the format’s strengths, not try to emulate other formats. If you have a cliff hanger every day, viewers know that it doesn’t matter if you catch an episode or not, because there’s another big cliffhanger the next day anyway. And even if there is a big thing that happens – like AJ being killed – the killer doesn’t spend more than 2 months in jail since you need to have the next big twist. That’s all I’m saying. Just don’t buy the hype from the P.R. department. The network execs still can’t figure out what to do with the soaps and they just want us to be happy.

    Rebecca1 replied

I think soaps have always had a negative reputation so I doubt many new viewers are going to be jumping on board for any of the remaining four…unless the promotional departments come up with a new way to promote them. They’ve got to be marketed with name people, a newer, more contemporary feel, tied in with prime time or popular music…or even switched to evening slots. Yes, we are a band of faithful viewers, and perhaps “stories” are still being passed down in families…just not sure if that translates into enough advertising revenue to keep them on the air much longer. Fingers crossed…

@k/kay….Hello again, and thank you for your kind thoughts!!!! I have friends who are staunch Y&R viewers and they all tell me the same thing…. that they are VERY happy with GT’s recast in the role of Phyllis, although I always respond with please take MS back as her GH character is simply insufferable! I skip over her as much as I possibly can, but as I do enjoy RoHo, it sometimes is unavoidable to view her histrionics. As for Silas and Ava, I love ME and have come to be able to tolerate MW’s Ava….their recent state of détente set against the background of Ms. Jerome’s horrific pregnancy and subsequent tribulations has been surprisingly positive, given Dr. Clay’s longstanding animosity for this woman. I have admired the profound decency of his character as he stepped in to care for both Kiki and her infant sister. I’m still not convinced that I would want to see Ava and Silas reunited as a couple, since I never really felt their connection in the first place, but thus far, the scenes they have shared have proved to be quite well-executed. While the verdict is still out on how Ava will escape the fates foreshadowed, it should at least be an interesting journey watching what transpires. Anything will be better than that unspeakable mess Silas suffered with Nina….it was utterly unbearable.

He also gave a nod Y&R with Billy Abbott not Jake but cant remeber it exactly but I had a laugh..

And he gave a big smile and wave to the OLTL fans when Franco reverted back Todd Manning talking to Starr .. that was heart warming..

Now his nod to Y&R with Phyllis and Franco being with her in Wisconsin and even tapping Phyllis’s personality..
(( Michelle tweeted a loving praise to RC for doing that)

I hear you, maddiehayes! While I have finally begrudgingly accepted Ava’s place in the Port Charles landscape—in small doses, that is—-it took a long time to do so, but there’s no way in creation that I shall ever learn to tolerate Nina and her audacious imposition onto the GH canvas. No matter how much effort is put into framing her character to fit in, she remains the odd woman out…and the latest ploy linking her to Franco is certainly not endearing her to me. While I have greatly appreciated the returns of Spinelli and Diane Miller, there still needs to be more homage paid to the show’s history, and Laura is one of the most glaring absences from the casts of the past, particularly with this current insanity concerning her ex-husband. To my way of thinking, Tracy is a very poor substitute for her when trying to fill in the voids of Luke’s deteriorated mind, since LaQuartermaine was but a mere acquaintance of his for many of the crucial years in question. To truly pay the proper respect to the sordid saga of the mentally-stricken Mr. Spencer, we need Laura, not to mention Lucky, Ethan, and many of his contemporaries from his various adventures through the decades in order to rebuild his shattered psyche, and that is something that Bobbie and the long-last Patricia cannot do alone.

seriously though, that was a great series, with great chemistry between the leads, and I feel like Robert&Anna were trying to capture some of that “vibe” when they opened their own detective agency. Those were the “good old days” of GH, not only in the romance department, but in the character development, family relationships, great storylines like “Mr. B” and “Asian Quarter” .. there is a REASON GH had high ratings in those days.

    Shay replied

And they said it wouldn’t last, @maddiehayes! LOL. Yes, “Moonlighting” was a fun ride, not only due to David and “yourself,” but Ms. Dipesto and her beloved Mr. Viola!!!! Ditto for those great days in Port Charles with the charming Robert and Anna, et al. For me, GH started to lose the plot in the ’90′s with the Sonny years…..I drifted away and although I made numerous returns, the show never really recaptured the thrills and romance of my earliest recollections when the show was a ratings bonanza.

Shay, you’re preaching to the choir, LOL. My thoughts exactly. I only watched a few episodes after 1991, notably B.J.’s Heart, Anna&Robert’s return to comfort Robin, Luke&Laura’s return .. you get the gist. I do NOT like the mob as center-stage, I liked it much better when they were the bad guys and Frisco, Robert and Sean went after them! I thought things would change with Carlivati’s regime, but no, if anything, it’s worse! Now we have the whole Jerome family too! And after yesterday’s episode, I was feeling quite nauseous. Yes, I laughed, but I also felt sad. Where is the drama? The romance? It’s entertaining in spots, but it all seems to be leading nowhere.

    Shay replied

@maddiehayes…..That is very well-put….”leading nowhere!” Just when you are expecting a great denouement after so much build-up, it never arrives. This is the current regime’s “modus operandi”…..it never seems to change. Basically, you get one plot point to the next, to the next, etc., etc. with no conclusive answers to much of anything. Most unfulfilling and uninspiring, to say the least, particularly for those with recollections of the most iconic storylines of the past. The retro actors and historical references are what brought me back during the 50th anniversary event, and I have stayed on, more or less, but there are weeks when I just read synopses and previews, so I can steer clear when the episodes feature some of the more unbearable aspects of the modern “GH,” like too many insipid newbie characters and tedious, nonsensical plots. For example, I skipped Monday-Wednesday this week, caught yesterday and will probably view the so-called Friday “cliffhanger”……..I am also not a fan of the Jeromes, although it was a kick to see Ilene Kristen back as Delia….now there’s a real soap character! At least she has an authentic backstory, which is what is so sorely missing in the Cartini-produced “instant” cast members. At any rate, it is always a treat when we are granted a visit from those of Port Charles’ past….and speaking of, you mentioned the “Asian Quarter” arc, which always leads me to wonder what ever became of Yank and Jade….they were such a cute couple, and I actually hoped we were going to get that answer when it was revealed that “Brad Cooper” was related to her family. But then, like so much else, that promising tease led….nowhere!!!!

    Reply

    maddiehayes replied

I hear ya – I’m thinking of taking another “break” from the show .. after Tristan Rogers left last year I quit watching until September .. I think it was the promise of Felicia being involved in the Peter/Maxie/Nathan story that drew me in .. alas it .. say it with me now .. led NOWHERE. Except it did serve as a catalyst for “Naxie” and I do like them together. Now they’re bringing in Spinelli, and if she gets back with him, all that “Naxie” of the past year will be for nothing. But it wouldn’t surprise me. How many couples has RC started, only to dump them. What’s the point of watching. I FF through 75% of almost every show. I agree, I love Ilene Kristen as Delia, as Roxie, whatever! Just bored with Ava, Silas, Morgan and Kiki. But that baby is adorable! I wonder if Brad’s “dad” (Jade’s brother Kim, right?) will ever make an appearance. It could be intriguing to revisit the Asian Quarter storyline. But it would probably be like RC’s revisiting of the Aztec Treasure storyline. Campy. He doesn’t take much of anything seriously, does he? AND then we’d be stuck with yet ANOTHER MOB family! So I’m not sure I want that.
