57 November 29th, 2014 GENERAL HOSPITAL: What Will Franco & Nina Do With Ava’s Baby?

Courtesy/ABC

In this sneak peek video for next week’s General Hospital, Franco (Roger Howarth) and Nina (Michelle Stafford) who are now in Canada hiding from the mob, the police, and everyone in between, have a big dilemma!

It seems that Franco is now being the voice of reason here as he implores Nina to snap back into full reality and help him figure out what they are going to do with Ava’s (Maura West) kidnapped baby!  He even suggests dropping it a hospital or a church so the baby is well taken care of, so they can go on the run and not have this baby, which is a dead giveaway, with them!

Nina seems to respond back that she is not having it and intends to keep the baby!  Will Franco be able to talk some sense into Ms. Clay?   What will they do with the baby?

Many think that since Betsy Franco is on her way back as Franco’s mom, perhaps Franco will leave the baby with her! Others think that perhaps the baby will stay with Nina and Franco for quite some time as they all bond together to become sort of a twisted family unit! What do you think Nina and Franco will do with Ava’s baby?  Watch the preview after the jump and  then weigh-in!

They’re both gross and horrible. Ava DESERVES to have HER baby back in HER arms. I know that won’t happen, but I hope both Nina and Franco DIAF. For real this time. And painfully.

It will be Franco who gets Nina to return Ava’s baby..
they will return and give Ava her baby.. imo

I really like watching both Nina and Franco develop!!!
They are awesome!!! and never a dull moment and the best thrilling couple in the soaps, my favorite couple… Their chem is powerful..
They are a mixed bag of everything..
good bad crazy sane and hurt.. and they share a rare love..

Franco and Nina are both great characters, there is a ‘magic’ about them !!

Um, no. It’s not their baby, either of them, and now they’re going to name her. Hell isn’t a bad enough place for these two. You’re delusional if you think they’re giving the baby back. Read the spoilers. They decide to keep her. So they can both rot in hell for all of eternity.

By the way, are you a young person? Your overuse of punctuation seems to indicate so, but I was curious to see if this so-called “fanbase” are really just teenagers in disguise.

Stephen King and soaps are two way different genres, or apples and oranges One’s daytime without disclaimers saying “the following may be offensive,” etc… a lighter type of entertainment where you drop out into a fantasy world. The other (Stephen) is classified as horror, at least in bookstores. And I don’t think many his fans would want to watch fluffy soaps. So there I can agree…GH isn’t for everybody. Just don’t want gruesome during the day, there’s enough in the news.

    su0000 replied

    I see no ”gruesome” lol
I see shootings of bad bad guys, it is mob stuff..
I see no rapes, there were some in ALL the soaps, but the soaps have put that stuff behind them..(not popular RC and team have not written one for GH
I see no torture or any gruesome things happening in GH..
I see very intriguing exciting stories.. I see exceptional acting..
I see Luke on his way home..
I see Jason as Jake is back at Liz’s house
I see Sam and Patrick getting close
    I see Michael becoming a Q
I see Ava on the edge
    I see Sonny in prison
I see Franco and Nina on a great journey
I see Alexis and Julian coming closer
I see Tracy excited to get Luke back, when it actually happens
I see Duke taking over for Sunny
I see Dr. O in heaven because Faison is back
I see the best villainess Helena back to give me some great thrills.
I see no rape, torture, no blood and guts.. I see no physical violence or abuse.
    I see no gruesome :)

I see great entertainment that is not a traditional soap and is exciting..
    and phenomenal actors !!

I have mixed feelings here…Nina and Franco only work for me when they are together…not so much when apart…RH shouldve been brought on as a different character, and couldve still been involved in this plot…i still wish he had played Jimmy Lee’s son which wouldve tied him to the Qs…he couldve been Jimmy Lee’s son, Jerry Lee, an outrageously flamboyant piano player…’GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!’…had he been Jerry Lee there couldve been…’A WHOLE LOTTA SHAKIN’ GOIN’ ON!’ at the Q Mansion…lol

this was ALOT to cull from… and draw from… talent through the roof to delve
I realize that Donna Mills’ Madeline is brought on to escalate…
we all know that Dr. O is recurring
now Britt has been … to my dismay… recurring status
Nathan… bearing his acting chops… which has only risen… for the better…

there was a lot of draw for MS Nina to go

I hope that the writers find avenues and outlets to share the feast

RH’ Franco : seeing as he’s the black sheep in all of Port Charles… it doesnt matter what Carly, Michael, Morgan, and Sonny think….. it’s simply … : move on time… he’s better off without them

he’s charming and disarming with Dr. O at the hosp
he’s showing feel with his dad.. Scotty
he went back to Heather… she’s worth the time
he’ll rectify his bond with Kiki

Franco is a one man show in any event… so it’s simply finding him a love interest thats on : Nina’ IT

theres enough to traverse with these two… it’s all in the writing

just magnify these two feelings for one another… and steer from the madness .. and LIVE

And as you rightfully point out, have either of these two brain trusts considered that the baby might need medical attention, given the hellish cirucmstances she came into this world through? These two are both selfish, narcissistic and evil, denying a mother and a newborn infant the chance to bond. I despise them both.

And if it is just fluffy entertainment to you, why do you feel the need to argue with every stranger who dares to criticize it? You are quite clearly in the minority of viewers who love or even remotely like the direction this show has gone in the last year. We get it Su….you like rape and murder and psychopaths and senseless violence and consider that entertainment. Most of us dont.

    jonboy replied

I disagree that Su is in the minority of viewers enjoying GH. The ratings are holding steady, even peaking at times. Under the current regime GH is attracting the younger viewer with its outlandish, nonsensical stories. If this silliness is what the youth of America wants, I guess they’ve got it. For the rest of us, more interested in continuing stories about real relationships, I’m afraid we have to turn the dial and give one of the other remaining soaps a try.

    Dan replied

Hey Jovin, last time I checked GH was doing over 3 million viewers in the ratings, and ahead of last year’s numbers during this same time period. So your assertion that Su is in the minority for liking the direction the show is going in would appear to be wrong based on the ratings. If the majority of the people don’t like the current direction of the show, why are the ratings up?

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, as you said, and I respect your view that you’re not enjoying the show. But I’m not sure where this “overwhelming majority” is that you speak of that is supposedly appalled with the show. To borrow a line you used in your post, saying it doesn’t make it so.

Arent Ava and Nina around the same age…why is Nina in menopause and cant have children but Ava can have a healthy baby after such traumaticly(is that even a word…lol) forced labor and doesnt need any medical attention(like PV.jr mentioned)…will a medical crisises with the baby bring them back to GH…is Ava much younger than Nina…sorry, im not female(ive checked…lol)…so maybe menopause can strike Nina but not Ava even if they are the same age…i know i sound somewhat daffy…lol

    Reply

    rebecca1 replied

jimh…the average age for women to reach menopause is about 51…some still don’t go through it til mid to late 50′s. Others can go thru it in their 40s…probably some as young as 40 though not as common. Britt told Nina she was in “early” menopause…perhaps due to her coma, medication, underlying conditions…we don’t know. So yes, they’re around the same age but that doesn’t mean that they’re at the same stage of their “hormonal” experience…

What would be technically incorrect would be the ease with which Ava got pregnant. If, most of us are correct in assuming Kiki is not her biological child…it would be much more difficult for her to conceive…they say it’s easier to get pregnant later in life if you’ve already had children earlier.

But, with everything in soaps…no point in over analyzing!

Ava (Maura West) is 42. Nina Michelle Stafford) is 49. Side note: Maura West has pushed 5 children out of that teeny, tiny frame! WOW

It’s a crazy s/l. I detach myself from reality when viewing. I’m not all about baby fever. This show’s obsessed w/kidnapping babies. Yawn.

I like the actors. Prefer them in scenes alone wo a baby thrown into the mix.

As crazy as this s/l is, Sonny running around PC murdering people left and right for personal, not business, reasons is more disgusting to me than the Nina/Franco babynapping!

Michelle Stafford (Nina) in real life is 7 years older than Maura West (Ava) but that’s not really the reason Nina is in menopause. That is because she’s been in a 20 year coma and it put stress on her body.

I never liked this story line involving a pregnant mother and BABY. It’s not entertaining, it was horrible. All the more so when you have attractive, talented actors playing the roles. It can almost make some forget, or get numb, to what a terrible thing they have done (including Nina’s mother, and even Sabrina) because they get emotionally involved with them as actors…”Oh they are so talented, remember this for Daytime Award time,” kind of B.S. So I really don’t care about how these characters try to rehabilitate, or redeem themselves even if they are crazy, etc.

I have to agree. You throw reality out the window for drama. Years of watching soaps and there’s nothing more less appealing than a pregnant woman in distress. It makes you squirm.. It makes you scream at the TV make it stop. Sorry but they are the worst vehicles for crafting drama.

Yet I still don’t “feel” the Quartermaine’s…it’s like the writers are trying to fix what they tore apart. Would love to see Skye come back and at least Jason at some point after he’s been used and abused by Helena et al… Killing off AJ was one of the biggest mistakes they could have made. 8. rebecca1 says:

There have been sooooo many stories regarding kidnapped babies on soaps…I don’t remember such violent reactions from fans. Obviously, not all fans. Prior to this story we had the crossover with Tea from OLTL and Sam…where Todd stole Sam’s baby and gave him to Tea…and Sam thought her child was dead. We also had Todd (again) on OLTL tell Blair years ago that her newborn had died…and kept her baby away from her. We had Todd (again!) raped by Margaret (OLTL) which was also difficult to watch…have a little boy, Sam…and all the drama and angst that went with that story.

What was difficult for me to watch in this GH baby story was Ava being drugged by Sabrina…only because Sabrina is intrinsically such a good person and I can’t imagine someone of her goodness taking a chance with a child’s life. At the time I was torn; I thought it was horrible but I understood the pathos that the writers were trying to oonvey re Sabrina’s grief/mindset. Then the famous injection scenes with Nina. Again, horrifying to watch but Stephen King-ish in horror…also the psychological breakdown of a woman intent on revenge and mired in loss.

This storyline is not some random thing thrown in for shits and giggles. It’s the culmination of two separate women who resented Ava having a baby…both women mentally unbalanced at the time of their horrendous acts…all aimed at a woman who murders with barely a look back; a woman who was going to kill her daughter’s boyfriend..albeit unhappily.

The baby, as far as we can see, is healthy. So, now that we are done with the “horror” aspect we are left with the typical kidnapping story. You can love it or hate it…but again, nothing new for soaps.

I probably would have had an opinion on what I thought would happen, but Melissa (see above) claims to have read several spoilers that say they keep her. Maybe they give her to Franco’s adoptive mom til they can come back and get her…

The one good thing to come out of this is for Ava’s world to come tumbling down. Though I LOVE Maura West and really want Ava to stick around…she’s just a great character…I think she, like Sonny, deserves to pay for her crimes. It’s her turn to cry…

    Hi Patrick!

Michael, in a rage, confronted Sonny and told him he was going to clear AJ’s name (for Connie’s murder) and demanded Sonny give him the tape that has Ava admitting she killed Connie. Sonny, because he so desperately wants to make amends to Michael, gave it to him. Michael, in turn, handed it over to Anna which is why Ava is on the run from the police. Everything I read assures that Maura West is not leaving the show…so I have no clue how they’re going to work this out!

  9. Fanny says:

Franco better watch his ASSets, Nina will most definitely get rid of him
before EVER voluntarily giveing up that baby.

    Reply

  10. Andrew says:

I think it’s hilarious that everyone is upset about the baby-napping by the twin crazies Nina and Franco and are calling for the baby’s return to Ava – a murderer (Connie), an attempted murderer (Olivia) and perpetrator of a half dozen or more serious crimes (such as even being tempted to poison Michael) not to mention causing, indirectly, AJ’s death through her coverups and lies. Plus, neither father is what anyone would consider superior to Franco – Sonny (the Mob boss who has a long list of crimes on his conscience) and Morgan (who is barely out of his teens and is, as Michael has put it, not exactly a braintrust).

In the real world, the baby would be removed from everyone’s care and put in foster care (although I suppose maybe if Morgan is the father, he might be eligible, but really, if Maxie loses her daughter because of poor judgement, then why not Morgan i.e. having an affair with Ava, with a criminal past and ties to a major mob family?).

In the end, it’s a soap. And yes, like a Stephen King novel, it’s fiction. One can argue the merits of one piece of fiction versus another piece of fiction with regards to the quality, but they are both fiction. Personally I think King overwrites and cribs too much from other sources… but that’s my opinion backed up by experience with the material. Just like you can (if you want) compare Mad Men, Star Wars, Charles Dickens, Gilligan’s Island, Danielle Steele, etc. But it’s all fiction.

We have a show where Anna can sleep with Duke and not realize he’s wearing a mask. We have Helena still alive after being shot point blank in the heart. If you’re bothered by the missing umbilical cord in a birth scene, that’s a cause to worry.

As for the current state of the show – yes it’s more violent than it’s ever been but I’m not sure what show you’ve been watching for the ten – fifteen years before Ron and Frank started writing/producing it… because the show I watched (even if it was only occasionally) glorified the mob, featured a romantic lead who would routinely murder people (whether they “deserve” it or not, murder is still murder) and killed off it’s ‘good’ characters (Alan, Emily, etc) just because the head writer seemed to enjoy it. Although more violent and filled with a higher quotient of crazies than ever before, I think that there is more attention to bringing back favorites (even if it can sometimes be for dull storylines – I’m looking at you Scotty/Lucy/Bobbie/Kevin), rebuilding the Quartermaines, reducing the mob and keeping all the fanbases happy.

But not everything is to everyone’s taste.

Some of us enjoy it for the escapist fare that it is. The show sometimes moves me, sometimes makes me laugh, sometimes annoys me (I like Dr. O but a little goes a very long way) but as a fan, I have the ability to turn the set off.

As for the subject at hand, I like both the characters of Franco and Nina as well as the actors who portray them. I don’t see their long term viability given that they’ve been written into a corner. I’d kind of liked it if they’d just dropped off the show for a few months following Franco’s threatening video to Carly so that everytime something happened, we’d wonder, is Franco behind it? But I understand that the show is committed to the actors as long as it can churn out story for them. Such is how soaps work.

Although babies being switched, kidnapped, and DNA results switched can be traumatic, it has been apart of soaps for decades. Luckily most of this drama doesnt happen in real life with regard to children. Plus, this story and tons of others are just a part of adult character formation. Plus Part II, for those who want to attack su0000 should also realize that in real life when we turn on our evening news we see towns being burnt down, football players dragging their girlfriends around by their hair, and legendary comedian who did God knows what to innocent women. So, lets be entertained by our soaps, watch the characters grow, no babies will be harmed and eventually returned to Ava. OMG, can you imagine Ava being your mother! Poor kid.

We seem to be pretty much on the same page when it comes to Nina (and MS)….I have felt from the beginning hers (well, theirs….) was a hideously grotesque storyline—featuring a far-too-hyped and over-rated actress— that particularly has been on a deplorable, downhill trajectory with the introduction of this stomach-churning baby-snatching saga. However, we do part company in that I simply cannot stand either sight or sound of that tooth-baring loon any longer, the talented presence of RoHo, notwithstanding. Although I certainly would prefer to see the infant returned to Port Charles—to her father, Morgan?—if this nauseating odyssey need continue, then I would champion Franco wresting the babe from Nina’s ironclad clenches and delivering it to Betsy for safekeeping. As long as said child is removed from the perilous personal space of that Clayby-crazed woman, then I can tolerate this tale for the short-term, although I should hope it will not be endlessly dragged out (as Ron C is so wont to do….) Furthermore, were Franco to inadvertently knock off “LaNina” in the process of “rescuing” this innocent little life, then that would be a massively welcome development, too. Along with “Sappy,” Silas’ distastefully demented she-devil of a spouse tops my Christmas wish list for those I deeply desire to see permanently obliterated from the GH canvas. (And speaking of your beloved “Sparkle Pony,” is she EVER going to get a suitably satisfying send-off for her revolting revengecapade against Ava???? Just because her clumsy machinations failed to result in a murderous miscarriage or stillbirth, she certainly should not be allowed to continue cavorting scot-free in her current capacity!!!!)

For me the past 2 years of GH has been the most watchable since Ric locked Carly in the panic room in the summer of 2003. And as far as senseless violence psychopaths and non sensical storytelling, isn’t that the base of Soap Opera Story telling. What era of GH did you guys watch, hasn’t there always been crazies and guns a blazing? If you guys don’t like the show, great, but me personally it’s enjoyable.

Love Andrew’s post – really well said. And a good reminder that GH has certainly been violent and has glorified mobsters. I didn’t watch during the Jason/Sonny/Carly Mob Hour because it was boring and repetitive and Jason was worshipped. Total snoozefest. But I’m really enjoying GH now – I like the balance of stories and while I think the cast is too large, I am enjoying watching it more than I have in years. I don’t like the baby kidnapping stories but I understand they are a staple of soaps. What is astounding to me is that I actually find MS watchable in her scenes with RH. He is fantastic at not allowing her to suck the oxygen out of the room. Well done, RH.

Do something with this story line so Ava get her baby back. I don’t like this story line with that crazy Nina taking Ava baby.
