Sonny (Maurice Benard) shot A. J. (Sean Kanan) not good for his relationship with his son, Michael (Chad Duell). Ava (Maura West) admitted to killing Connie (Kelly Sullivan) to A.J., not good for Ava. Robin (Kimberly McCullough)d ecided to go help her friend in need Jason and try to save his life, not good for Patrick (Jason Thompson). These are some of the hot storylines currently playing out on-air which will have significant fallout for the characters of Port Charles!
In an informative interview with TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, General Hospital’s head writer Ron Carlivati offers up how the writing team came to the decisions of these story points, and what will happen next that will generate much intriguing story to come. The big questions overall is; how can Ava and Sonny be redeemable now they both shot someone … or in the case of Ava, killed Sonny’s girlfriend? No one wants to lose the fantastic Maura West from the Port Charles canvas, and doesn’t it all seem just ripe that somehow Ava and Sonny may end up in each others arms, maybe for awhile? Here are a few interesting excerpts below!
Carlivati on if the GH writing team was nervous making Ava, Connie’s killer: “Of course, we were nervous! Especially the more we and the audience got invested in Ava. It was always my plan to have her be the killer but there was still the chance that we would change our minds and not write it that way. As the character started growing in popularity, executive produce Frank Valentini said, ‘You know, Connie’s killer doesn’t have to be Ava. Maybe something else happened. Maybe someone else came in and killed Connie.’ There was certainly that temptation to protect Ava but, in the end, we decided it was a stronger move to stick with our original idea and see where that could take us down the line: What will happen between Ava and Sonny if and when he finds out she killed Connie? What will he do? She will have nowhere to run!”
Carlivati on Robin leaving Patrick and Emma to save Jason, and in her mind being able to do both – help Jason and return to her family – which provided the exit story for Kimberly McCullough: ” She (Robin) thinks she can have her cake and eat it, too. Look, I don’t blame the audience for being upset but we really did explore every permutation, every way possible to write Kimberly McCullough off the show. People say, ‘Why couldn’t Robin do the job across town so that she and Patrick can still see each other?’ Really? So, meanwhile, Patrick is completely stagnating in an off-camera happy marriage? That’s not a valid choice. That’s not a character I’m interested in writing for. We did what we needed to do.”
So, what do you think about Ava being Connie’s killer and Sonny shooting A.J.? Where do you think the story can head from here now that these two shot two citizens of Port Charles? And the decision to have Robin leave to go help Jason to facilitate Kimberly’s exit from the show and to help free up the character of Patrick from stagnating? Comment below!
