Maurice Benard and his family traveled to New York this week, and according to the Daytime Emmy winner’s Instagram on Friday, the man who plays General Hospital’s Sonny Corinthos just taped an upcoming appearance on the hit syndicated daytime series, The Dr. Oz Show!  From all signs, it looks like Maurice will be discussing bipolar disorder, a condition he has lived with for many years.

Benard posted a photo of himself, his wife Paula and their daughters:  “Getting ready for the great @dr_oz show Going to discuss something very important to me today Airs Thursday Feb 25th #droz #bipolar #mentalhealthawareness #erasingthestigma

A follower then posted a question to the popular daytime star, and asked if he had advice for her son who also has bipolar disorder.  Maurice replied:  “My advice for everyone is that the best thing you could do would be to get treatment, listen to the people that love you, stay on your medication and you can live a productive life.”

So, are you looking forward to seeing Maurice on Dr. Oz and shedding more light on Bipolar disorder? Share your thoughts below.

I don’t normally watch Dr Oz but I will that day. I’m a long time watcher of GH and big fan of Maurice. I also happen to have bipolar disorder. I commend GH on how well they protrey bipolar and show how serious it is but also how you can lead a normal life.

Jimh…you are perhaps one if the most honest persons about your “real” life. But you still found room to have a good sense of humor and imagination. Makes me realize why having storylines about certain more uncomfortable topics on the “love in the afternoon/mobster” soaps can be helpful to some and informative to others.

Having a good sense of humor has always got me through some of my roughest times, and was actually helpful to others who were feeling low and made me feel even better…a smile is the best medicine out there.

Jimh, glad to hear you’re doing better. Continued success and strength as you deal with this.

Always remember that.

I cannot wait! Oz is really good with interviewing celebrities. His series with Charlie Sheen has been top notch! Someone had the brains to reboot Oz and get away from all his dime store demonstrations and focus on real problems with real people. Maurice will be great! CeeCee, TUNE IN!

Huh?!?!? I’m sorry but I think that Maurice Benard is making a B-I-G mistake by going on The Dr. Oz Show. To me, Dr. Oz himself is nothing but an annoying, preachy and know-it-all Q-U-A-C-K!!!!! No, no and more no.

I’m with you, Jay! Oz gives physicians a bad name. And I’m not a fan of Benard or his polarizing character — pun intended… Let’s call the episode, “The Quack and the GH Hijack.”

A-M-E-N to that, Brother!!!!! Also, I have a feeling that Oz himself will spend the entire episode/hour yammering on and on. Self-absorbed moron.

    Later, Brother.

Hi, James, my sooo fair and just friend.
I more or less said the same thing as you with my response to Jaybird. However, my post did not make it. I do believed Dr. Oz has been called out ….accused of ‘bad science’ practice. Witch doctor? LOL.
He is controversial, is he not? Then again, it makes for sensational television.

    Timmm replied

I disagree jaybird, I think he is legitimate. He has his own ways of expressing his talents and teaching patients. He was best on Oprah. The Oz show had been very watered down. Like I said above, he rebooted his show for 2015-2016. It is better. I bet if you watch it you will come away impressed!

jaybird369 wish I had read your post before posting myself. THANK YOU for being original and seeing through the nonsense that is the Dr. Oz show. I can’t tell you how many times I want to scream when I read reviews about health supplements on Amazon and it starts like this “Dr. Oz said …”

It’s just like with Oprah, if she told you that jumping off a bridge was good for your health, the followers would do it because for some reason they believe that Oprah and Oz speak the gospel. It is truly sad that people swallow this hook, line, and sinker and cannot think for themselves.

Many of us see it, Chrystie. I caught a few segments here and there, but after so many accusing him as being a charlatan, using his medical status as an instrument of ‘getting through’, I stopped watching. Sometimes, I found his ‘notions’ so obvious, it was ridiculous. Later.

    jaybird369 replied

You’re welcome, Chrystie. Girlfriend…as far as I’m concerned, BOTH Oprah and Dr. Oz are real PIECES OF WORK…Y-I-K-E-S!!!!!!!!!! To me, Oprah is nothing but a agenda-pushing and two-faced HYPOCRITE…and…Dr. Oz is nothing but a yammering, self-righteous and self-promoting MORON!!!!! Oz and Oprah=IDIOTS-AT-LARGE!!!!!!! Dumb as hell.

    Take care, Chrystie.

Good for Maurice to get his story out there, and the Oz platform will get viewers, but personally I can’t stand the Dr. Oz show. He purports to know all about everything which is definitely does not.

I suffer from migraines so I watched his show on migraines, to give him the benefit of the doubt. Boy was his “expert advise” flawed. Just about everything he said was good for you was actually a migraine trigger. But I think he has achieved the Oprah status in that he speaks and the flock listen and believe. Good for him, bad for the real world.

I’ve suffered from being bi polar my whole life. It runs in my family. I was so glad that GH story line shows that there is a genetic component to being bi polar. And yet the treatment is different for each individual. It took years for me to find the right medication.
