143 October 16th, 2014 General Hospital’s Michelle Stafford Delivers Bravura Performance As Nina’s Schemes Catch Up With Her!

Courtesy/ABC

Did fans of General Hospital just watch Michelle Stafford’s 2014 Daytime Emmy reel on today’s episode?

Now while it’s a bit premature to predict that annual race, or who might choose what scenes for contention, Stafford’s performance ran the gamut of emotions and if edited together to show the range of her acting in one episode … this could be a strong possibility!

In story, Nina Clay is turning out to be totally certifiable! After being confronted by Silas (Michael Easton) for all of her schemes and lies to break up his relationship to Sam (Kelly Monaco), she admits to them! Thank God ,Silas finally let Nina have it for her horrific deeds!

Later, as she tries to say that her caregiver Rosalie (Linda Elena Tovar)  suggested she fake paralysis to get Silas back and to hold on to her husband and more, Silas can’t listen to it her one more second.  However,  one minute Nina is shedding tears for losing her husband, and being put in a coma by her mother for 20 years, and in another,  she is screaming at her husband for how much she loathes him for having an affair with Ava Jerome (Maura West) and that she had his baby… Kiki (Kristen Alderson)!

Nina later confesses it was she that destroyed and ransacked Silas’ apartment many months ago, not Madeline (Donna Mills)!  She even gets caught about her “revenge list”, and while at times she rationalizes her actions, at other times she is so angry, other times vindictive and cruel, and yet other times plain scary, to other times showing signs of deep pain! After Silas figures out that Nina is not playing with a full deck, he suggests they go to couple’s counseling to which she looks like she is about to kill Silas for the near mention of that!

Major kudos to Michelle Stafford on this one folks!  Who else could play the roller-coaster of emotions in what is turning out to be one hell of twisted character!

Now, let us know what did you think of Michelle’s performance on today’s GH?

Michelle Stafford rocks that role. The scene you are talking about was intense as she ran the gamut of emotions. It was an incredible scene….and as far as Rosalie goes, together they are magic. Keep going!

It’s weird that a character so clearly wacko can still engender some sympathy. And, I like how Nina’s scenes contrasted with Madeline revealing some of her backstory so the audience could hear different sides of her history. If we’d only heard Madeline’s side, there would still be doubt because viewers would think she’s just trying to push Nina aside for the money. But, when you see Nina cracking, we know there is actual truth in Madeline’s story. The episode was so well-structured, btw them, Sabrina, Franco, Carly & Sonny. GH is on FIRE now, with so many characters adding their own sizzle to a growing bonfire! LOVE IT!

About that, Kansas. At least Nina is mentally ill, I will concede that…but, brought about by her mother.
Sonny is straight out evil. I just can’t get over how someone can plan another human being’s death as if he were making a grocery list. Seriously, who’s the sick one????!!!!!
You’re right…GH is HOT, HOT, HOT right now.

    CeeCee replied

Yes, Kansas. Nina did scream out an angry and resentful admonishment to Maddie about (when a child) sending Nina upstairs to her room with the nanny while she (Maddie) drank champagne downstairs. Was Nina suggesting that Maddie went around the block a few times with a variety of men? Or was Nina suggesting that Maddie was/is a drunk?….once an alkie, always an alkie.
You are so right; through her angry and desperate ranting and raving Nina is reliving, rehashing and REVEALING her childhood with a despicable mother. JMO…..No wonder she lost it then and now.
So much more is left to tell. Can’t wait !!

Mental illness is a real issue and unfortunately for this show they just make characters “crazy” for the sake of the plot– to do horrible things that only “crazy” or “evil” people would do. It would be a nice change of pace if this show actually did a decent story line of someone inflicted with a mental illness, suffering a breakdown– then see the real process of recovery– I can envision great scenes with this character and the character Kevin– as they journey to make this wounded broken soul whole again. But this being GH I fear what you said will be true, she will be the new Heather Weber or they will just explain her illness away with a new drug that cures her instantly or something as equally unrealistic.

    Reply

    CeeCee replied

Yes, Mary SF. You make a just and significant point. Mental illness, in different degrees , is a very serious disease which affects more people than any of us realizes.
To depict the disease and the disturbed person in such a way where both appear to be ridiculed and be called names is unconscionable and inhuman.
You are so right. There should be a serious segment on mental illness where the ‘ill’ character is treated with kid gloves and not like a marionette in a freak show.
GH puts it out there and we, the viewers, talk about it, and some of us demonize the character etc.
I am very glad you brought this up. Leave it to you, Mary, to be so intuitive and always the voice of reason.

I still believe Nina was never in a coma…i believe Mother Mad had Nina committed to a mental hospital…Nina was somewhat unbalance to begin with and money hungry bad Mad drugged Nina to make her seem even crazier…in the asylum Nina gave birth to Lauren ex-Kiki and gave the baby to Ava…the Nina Nathan had seen at the clinic was either a lookalike imposter or Nina’s unknown twin Tina who was jealous of her sister and helped her mother for a portion of Ninas loot…Tina was disowned for some unknown reason by her father and was sent away with Mad secretly supporting her then when the father found out he wrote Mad out of his will and left everything to Nina, Tina was so cleverly kept secret that Nathan didnt even know about her…Mad kept Silas from seeing Nina in fear he would learn the truth!!!

Michelle is a superstar and I told GH fans who were not familiar with her stint on Y&R to watch and see. She is the best. How good? Did you see her bring Michael Easton back to life! Her and Sila’s scenes were epic!

    Reply

    harry replied

Well, Timm, I disagree about Stafford but always thought Michael Eastman was underrated as an actor. He was fabulous as the tough cop with a streak of vulnerability running through him on OLTL.
But I feel sorry for Silas. All these months of watching him sniff, sob and wax poetic about the sweet, innocent Nina, his invisible friend, and he ends up with a psycho bitch on wheels. He looks rather foolish and I suppose he’s embarrassed when he thinks of how he sniffed and snorted with grief over her alleged death to Sam. He painted a picture of a young girls wearing a private school uniform, bobby socks, saddle shoes skipping through the fields picking forget-me-nots. Instead, it seems she was really Rhoda from The Bad Seed. Poor Silas!

    Reply

    Timmm replied

You make a good point. I really hate to say this but GH should have let the OLTL people go when the Prospect Park BS hit the fan. All good actors but what the hell is a Franco, Kiki, or Silas! Alll three of these actors are probably embarrassed!

    CeeCee replied

Of course, that is your point of view, harry. Poor, poor Silas, who couldn’t keep it in his pants.
How do we know that all these mental issues did not arise from all the wrongs done to Nina?…and, from her mother also, no less. I feel nothing for Silas. He may have suffered, no doubt…but he lived …he went on…while Nina lay there, dead to the world. And whose fault was that? It all goes back to Maddie.
So many seem to forget that the story was Maddie trying to take Nina away from Silas for her own good. If Nina was do nuts, Silas would not have had even an inkling? When someone is off base, one cannot hide it for too long, I would assume.
Now, suddenly, Nina was so crazy and carrying a child to boot, that she was fit to be tied?
Nah…something’s gotta give. We shall see.

    harry replied

Thank you, Rebecca. Yes, of course I was feeling sorry for Silas. PLus the whole Silas Nina story has really amused the heck out of me.
Due to his stories of Nina, Silas created a great disparity between reality and illusion. I actually like Michael Eastman–I always have.
Cee Cee, you cannot apply real psychology to this storyline. There isn’t even a drop of realism infused into Nina’s case. Don’t get me wrong–I am not complaining, but no one should watch a soap thinking there will be a little psychology 101 infused into the scenario. Real psychosis, be it bipolar disease or schizophrenia, is organic to the individual’s brain chemistry and it’s usually a genetic inheritance. Then if the environment is such, it can trigger the psychosis. Many people argue over environment vs biology but the truth is despite the old saying, NO ONE can drive someone insane. It’s not Silas’s fault that Nina is psychotic anymore then it is his fault that Sam McCall is a fashion victim.

    CeeCee replied

Absolutely, Timmm. I never saw goody-two-shoes, oh-so-loveRly(purposely spelled this way) -Sam do that. Nina got a rise out of Silas, perhaps not the same rise as pussy-cat Sam, but, Nina brought Silas home…

    Reply

    Nick D. replied

Timm, while I agree that the reintroduction of the OLTL was not initially a success, those storylines planted the seeds for much of what is on the canvas today, which I am enjoying very much.

I can’t imagine GH without at least a few of the following: Julian, Ava, Nina, Silas, Nathan, Madeline, Franco, Kiki, Lucas, Morgan, Rosalie, Jordan, etc. all of whom were either brought on or brought back as a result of the Franco, Kiki, and Silas stories. Heck, the Ava character alone has been very popular – she never would have been introduced without the Prospect Park mess.

    rebecca1 replied

I don’t think Harry was saying Michael Eastman shouldn’t be on GH…I think he was agreeing that his scene with Michelle was good…that he is underrated…he did great work on OLTL and finally had something to work with here.

I don’t think Michelle brought Michael to life where Kelly Monaco couldn’t. Obviously, the scene was high impact emotional drama that gave ME/Silas a chance to actually act. Hope he gets to keep the momentum…

Michelle is both very good at crazy and caring (for Franco). Now that the three GH looneys are on the warpath…Franco, Nina and Heather..should be a bad moon a risin’! (In a I can’t-wait-way!)

    CeeCee replied

I agree with you, Nick, very much so.

    Shay replied

CeeCee….Nina may have brought Silas “home,” but tragically it was to her own personal “house of horrors!” (And by the way, aren’t you the saucy one with your take on words regarding Sam’s “effect” on Dr. Clay? Naughty girl! LOL.)

    rebecca1 replied

CeeCee…i remember a while back you said you didn’t find Silas attractive and wondered if others did. You said something about maybe back in the day or whatever…I pointed out that in my opinion she’s still incredibly attractive, hot, sexy with a killer bod (and yes, I’m straight but I can see that! LOL)…and I mentioned she’d been on the cover of Maxim and did a layout I believe in Playboy. But…so what?

I don’t think she’s objectified on GH…nor does she use her “assets” in any of her dealings with the people of Port Charles. She is a great mom (LOL…when we actually see Danny)…she was protective over Rafe, she had undying love and loyalty to Jason, she’s a wonderful, caring sister …you get my point.

Your seeming dislike of this character looks like it’s tied to your love for Michelle Stafford. That’s fine! It’s just a soap and we all pick our “teams.” But just saying that I personally think “Sam” is a great addition to GH…yes, she’s kinda monotone…soft-spoken…but that’s how I’ve come to “know” her. She is who she is…just like in real life everyone’s different…so in soaps.

So. As clever as the rise/rise comment…I think Silas is in love with Sam…not just sleeping with her. They’ve been through a lot together; he saved her son’s life and held her together emotionally every step of the way…they shared a guardianship of Rafe…she went with him to Manhattan to uncover the secret of Nina’s then whereabouts…This couple, which looks to be over…had substance. Sam was/is no sloppy seconds to Nina…nor did she step between a married man and his wife.

I always feel funny about defending an actor/actress…so I always defend the character. I have no idea what I’d think of the former if I actually met/knew him or her. So, my loyalty lies with the fictional person….

    rebecca1 replied

    Sam…not Silas.

    CeeCee replied

@rebecca. Yep, I remember saying that about Sam. And, I do agree that she is very sedate and not trashy. I was not implying that…albeit she does or has slept around quite a bit. I know that’s the norm…I am just in the minority, I guess. When I said that I meant that because she took it all off and then some, for PLAYBOY, I meant that the perception may be one which makes the ‘ vox populi’ say she can act….one thing has nothing to do with the other. I have yet to see Sam in a scene which makes me do a double take or say, ‘Wow, what a performance’.
I can do a better job when I want something from my husband…..I always win, BTW… LOL.

  8. Shay says:

I realize I am probably in the minority here, but I found Ms. Clay’s monu–”mental” meltdown to be JUST…TOO…MUCH. I give total credit to ME for his standout performance in this mega-melodramatic denouement, but I simply could not abide that over-the-top tour de force of Stafford’s….you could see it coming a mile away and it was every bit as predictable, explosive and egomaniacal as I expected…..I simply wanted it to stop….I cannot stand this capricious character, and so want her to be gone already. She has more than served her nefarious purpose….I wish we could now move on without her, not to mention that mouthy, obnoxious co-conspirator, Grossalie. Just not my cup of tea, that Nina….

    CeeCee replied

Oh, Shay, Shay, Shay. When you call Nina capricious, it suggests that she acts thus on a whim.
No, no, no !!! She is a tortured soul, NOT WHIMSICAL ….If she seems volatile, it is because she is scared. You must admit Michelle is doing her job well if she can extract such a reaction from you, yes?…LOL.
Sorry to disappoint you, but Nina will not be gone any time soon. You know who will be gone? This Nina will be gone. The Nina we see now, this moment, this week, this month, or coming months.

(It will only be a fraction less futile than rebecca1′s many valiant attempts to soften my stance on “Snappy!”) Having said that, I do admire your devotion to this wild woman….your immense loyalty to her is laudable…alas, I cannot share your enthusiasm for the methods of madness MS employs to bring her lunacy to life. The repeating….repeating….repeating of words….words….words for emphasis…emphasis….emphasis….is trite….trite….trite….and tedious….tedious….tedious! It wears on my every last nerve…..my….every….last….nerve! And although I must reluctantly concede that “Le Neurotic Nutcase” is going nowhere in the near future, that doesn’t mean that I won’t dearly wish for her departure every time she darkens someone’s door in Port Charles. As for my use of the term “capricious,” it was factually sound…while its commonly held notion is one of fanciful whim, the emotions can also extend to that of the unpredictable, volatile, erratic and/or impulsive, which certainly describes “Phyllina’s” behavior “to a T,” n’est-ce pas? (Maybe “mercurial maniac”would have better sufficed in that particular instance. What can I say? I do love my alliteration-LOL!) At any rate, let’s just call it a draw for now on our dueling declarations regarding GH’s most recent marauding menace….I strongly suspect there will be ample examples in the future upon which to base our debates, which are always a pleasure to behold, CeeCee! P.S. Did you perchance receive a response from me incorporating my male equivalent of “jolie laide?” It didn’t post, but as long as it arrived in your inbox for personal perusal, that’s all that matters. As for Rosalie…love her! Didn’t like her when she first arrived…but I’ve come to find her too verrrry funny…her bite and comic/sarcastic timing is precise. She’s sharp, sassy, adorable-looking…and I’m curious to know what her secret is.

Kudos to Silas! Finally he is showing that side of the actor that I love. His sensitivity as a human being, his fairness, his understanding and his objectivity.
The other day, we saw his frustration and his blindness to how sick Nina really is. He went on a barrage of a screaming binge against Nina, which I thought was unfair, but it seems to have dawned on him that she needs tenderness and help.
Michelle Stafford, as I said from the onset, is showing her stuff.
Nina is running scared. She would have never knocked Silas cold if she did not feel as trapped and cornered as a rabbit. The fact that she flinched and resented Silas for grabbing her arm suggests much. In her mind, she probably felt that he was going to do her bodily harm. Did Maddie abuse her as a child and beyond? There’s a story to be told …..!!!!!
Nina is in SILAS’S world, not hers. She trusts no one except Nathan….so, she runs to him where she knows she will find solace….but, lo and behold! Who does she find ? Sacchubus !!!!
I am sure that Mad will try to commit Nina again. This is getting good. And, jimh, I am starting to suspect that you are right. Maddie is a baddie.
What Nina is exhibiting are her defense mechanisms. It is a natural, God-given instinct which all of us possess. Nina will fight with everything she’s got. So, get ready and hold on to your seats…you ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
I will concede that I favor Nina/Michelle which, therefore, leaves me VERY partial towards her. I see her through Rose-colored lenses. I am simply smitten. Did I say I had a girl-crush on her???? LOL.

There was no abuse. Do you remember when Nina was talking with Franco at the hospital? I think it was Franco; might have been someone else. Any way, she told a disturbing tale of a young girl watching someone & fantasizing about hurting them. This chick has had a screw loose for a while. She’s Heather Webber 2.0…with money. I completely believe Madeline. I’ll even go a step further & say that Madeline might eventually admit that the thought of Nina having a child terrified her to the point where Madeline would not have minded if Nina had died because she wanted to prevent another sociopath from walking the earth. Everyone accuses Madeline of doing it for the money & hating Silas. But, I think it goes back to Nina terrorizing her family. Madeline might have even adopted James to create some kind of loving buffer, which only worked for a little bit.

Kansas…it was a RHETORICAL question….not intended to get an answer……we are discussing…speculating…assuming…we DO NOT KNOW.

    rebecca1 replied

I partly agree with you Kansas. But I think Mad was afraid for her unborn grandchild in the hands of an unstable Nina…so she gave kiki to Ava with the stipulation that Silas never know the child is his…which is why Ava told kiki her father was Franco. As for Nathan…Dr.O didn’t want to raise him because of who HIS father is…which we still don’t know (and she didn’t want to pass him off as Faison’s or perhaps not want him to know she’d slept with someone else at the time). James/Nathan is about 20 years younger than Nina so I don’t think the adoption had anything to do with Nina’s erratic behavior; not sure why Mad would do her sister such a huge favor…

    I love gh replied

Rebecca1- I think Faison IS Nathan’s father and that Dr. O didn’t want Nathan controlled and destroyed by him.

    rebecca1 replied

    @I love gh…I don’t think so…two reasons:

!) Dr. O is sooooooo madly, blindly in love with Faison I don’t even think she’s views him as demented/controlling.

    2) She would do anything to gain his love which is why she presented him with Ben/Rocco…so that he’d have a male heir.

I think if she tried to pass off Nathan as his and he demanded a test she’d be screwed.

I was so sure it was Victor’s…thought even at the end she killed him so that he couldn’t get his hands on Nathan…thinking she switched the lab results at the last minute to make him think Nathan wasn’t his. But then she said she killed him so that the secret would die with him…because his real father was worse. Could it be another Cassadine?

Of course I could be wrong but that’s where my thoughts are…

    rebecca1 replied

LOL…Nathan is sooo not an “it.” I meant to write “he”… :)

I don’t think for one minute Nina thought Silas was going to harm her. She’s a loon, CeeCee. Justified or just plain nutz…she’s capable of violence…as witnessed by knocking Silas out, threatening to kill her mother, and looking like she wanted to snuff the life out of Rafe before he did her the favor and died. That’s not a hurt flower…that’s a twisted mind. No one, including Silas, should have to be saddled with her. She needs help. Will she get it? Probably not…or at least not for a while so she can create more havoc…with and without Franco by her side.

Rebecca, I am not well versed in the Cassadine family history. Nonetheless, I agree with you when you say that Nathan’s father is a Cassadine….but, whomever he is, is overwhelmingly worse than Victor, according to Liesl…..which struck me as humorous that she can actually differentiate between good, bad, worse and worst. Ha Ha…..sweet irony….really spooky .
Now, my question is; who was the Cassidine patriarch? Helena’s husband? Could the man who fathered Nathan be the ‘Capo’ of the Cassadine family? Was he as diabolical and as fiendish as the rest of this unholy tribe?

    Shay replied

This is an example where we wholeheartedly agree, rebecca1! Silas’ wife is one sick Mrs. and the sooner he washes his hands of her, the better….the man deserves to be paroled from his Nina-centric prison cell for time already served! Despite CeeCee’s well-put, passionate pleas to the contrary, there is simply no circumstance in which I will ever believe that that bad-to-the-bone broad wasn’t born that way….she was mentally-disturbed from the very beginning, no trigger required!!!! Additionally, if Madeline were such an awful maternal figure responsible for her daughter’s despicable downfall, how is it that James/Nathan grew up to be such a well-balanced, wonderful gentleman??? These “siblings” had the same “nurturing,” so their differences can only come down to “nature.” Gee, who would have ever thought that Liesl would have been the one capable of reproducing the more normal and stable offspring of these two “Swiss Sisses?”

Did you notice Carly’s quick reference to Bobbie about Bobbie’s marriage one time to Stephan (“What happened to that guy, anyway?”) …. could Stephan be returning to the canvas and playing part of the storyline about Nathan’s parenthood?

Shay…I’m not sure that the paternity test would say anything other than not a match.

    Shay replied

@CeeCee…Helena’s husband, Mikkos, was frozen to death onscreen in 1981, along with his brother Tony, during the chilling climax of the “Ice Princess” caper…since that time little has been said of either of these Cassadines. Their deaths happened so far back, that there has never been a hint of possible resurrections, which in order for Nathan to be sired by either, would be necessary….unless we are getting set up for more strange science circa a freeze-dried “test-tube” Cassadine heir with roots in the Reagan era! Besides, if Victor had seen the results of the DNA analysis and they indicated a “familial” link instead of the expected positive match to his, then I should think his reaction would have been far more rage-filled at the hint of Liesl’s “infidelity” with one of his own relatives. Additionally, other than the supposedly late pair of Stefan/Stavros and the still-unseen Valentin, it would appear that we are fresh out of possible Cassadine baby-daddy sperm-donors…provided yet another illegitimate one doesn’t crawl out of the woodwork? Having said that, I also don’t buy the notion that Faison is Nathan’s father….it probably has to be yet another nefarious character that has trod the GH canvas of the past. An interesting choice would be an Alcazar, since there is a history of them in Europe prior to appearing in Port Charles, not to mention a passing physical resemblance between Ted King and Ryan Paevy, but that is mere supposition at this point!!!

Wow, Shay. You certainly have a knack of putting everything in perspective. Merci beaucoup, mon amie.
The name Valentin keeps popping up now and again. Is he another of Victor’s brother?
Also, is it possible that all three Westmore offspring share the same father/sperm donor?
A good part of the Cassadine saga happened before I was even born and none in my family watched or watches GH. That leaves me getting my info from the internet…I get lazy, sometimes….LOL…or, I depend on you guys.
I was thinking that TPTB don’t even know themselves who this infamously abominable being, who fathered Nathan, is…..the character is, perhaps, yet to be created. Yes?

    rebecca1 replied

Shay…Ted King, the actor who played Alcazar was rumored to be returning to GH after the demise of OLTL…thus the whole girlie trip of Blair and Tea (OLTL) to find out if Tea’s brother Tomas Delgado and Alcazar were one and the same. According to King, he was open to coming aboard GH but unfortunately because of the Prospect Park/ABC suit he couldn’t. Another actor I REALLY like! Hope they are able to release these actors/characters but I’m sure it’s going to be a long, complicated legal battle.

As for him being Nathan’s father…you could be right but I personally don’t see an Alcazar being worse than a Cassadine.

    CeeCee replied

Ahh, Shay…why did Nathan, having been raised in the same environment as Nina, turn out mentally stable? Well, now. Nathan lacked the one thing Maddie wanted to control..MONEY…lots of it.
Now, Nathan’s story is another enigma. How does the issue of Dr. O and a mysterious father who is ‘ badder ‘ than bad, turn out so angelic, both physically and spiritually? It defies logic. But, there you have it !
Maddie, most likely, did not torture or abuse Nathan. There was no need to feed him pills or inject him with whatever. (That is a form of torture) .
I do agree with you that even siblings may be as different as night and day. It is nature. They are born with the Cain and Abel syndrome…LOL.

You could not make more sense if you tried, rebecca. Everything you say is true…absolutely sacrosanct. Sam is blameless, Kiki is a victim of circumstance, and, if she is indeed Nina’s daughter, it will be devastating for her also, a double whammy! But, not so Silas. I am very adamant about that rebecca…only because we do not know how much damage, to an already bruised brain, Silas betrayal did…especially if Nina’s ‘illness’ was inherently intrinsic.
Nonetheless, if we are to believe that this is a genetic phenomenon, then why do we so easily exculpate Maddie? Like mother like daughter? How about, monkey see monkey do? How could a mother do that to a daughter, who according to her had a frail mind? She could not have been that sane herself. I still stand firmly in my position…that Maddie used Nina’s hurt and violation of trust from Silas as leverage….an edge…the advantage she needed to have her sedated and tell doctors Nina was emotionally and mentally irrational…CRAZY. Why is it so hard to have had it happen this way…LOL.
As I stated above, you make all the sense in the world and I agree. But, don’t you think something dramatic and traumatic happened in Nina’s childhood which may have triggered, now as an adult, after being dormant for twenty years, a Bertha Mason quality to an already vaporous and deranged mind? …..with the exception, rebecca, that I assimilate Maddie to Rochester and not Silas. I mean, Rochester did keep Bertha, his wife, locked up…..that’s Maddie…that’s exactly what she did…..LOL
I know a healthy mind does not conjure up ways of hurting people or making lists of names. But, maybe that’s her way of letting out steam and not act on it. In my dreams, right?
I do love these sites, rebecca…it’s nice to exchange ideas, thoughts and opinions without abasing one another…thank you….later.

    rebecca1 replied

LOL CeeCee…excellent analogy with Bertha…Rochester…Jane Eyre. I’ll take it a step further and say it could be Nina, Silas, Sam. Funny because I was just thinking as I read all the comments that they way some of us analyze these silly soaps you’d think we were in English Lit critiquing Dostoyevsky.

The thing is no matter how you cut it I trust Silas. I doubt he did anything brutal to her…I don’t know why he cheated on her but perhaps he was very unhappy in his marriage…perhaps he saw a side of Nina he couldn’t deal with and succumbed to another (Ava)…we don’t know. But what we DO know is that Silas isn’t evil…he was devastated and guilt-ridden…and he sacrificed all when she came back to support her. Nina’s treacherous…and Silas just woke up out of his coma…the one he seemed to be in while she schemed and lied and tricked (no pun intended) her way into his bed, broke up his relationship and manipulated the whole scenario with Patrick’s confession of wanting to end Rafe’s life.

Madeleine is obviously evil. Regardless of whether she’s telling the truth or not about Nina’s pre-coma mental state…she killed the pharmacist and tried to kill Sam. Obviously the entire brood is a tad off…from Dr. O to Mad to Nina. At least Dr. O and Nina share the wonderful gift of gab and maniacal humor! I can listen to them ramble for hours!

    CeeCee replied

@rebecca. Love your second paragraph explaining Sabrina’s temporary lack of judgment to Shay.
Now, why can’t the same apply to Nina?. I pretty much keep paraphrasing what you wrote, only about Nina. Her baby was ripped from her by her mother. Whether Maddie meant to hurt the baby or not is moot. The point is losing a baby, unborn or otherwise, will be a painful cross to bear for a mother forevermore.
So, thank you for explaining it exactly the way I see it…..I look at Sabrina in a different light; however, I can forgive because I can understand her state of mind…she has, I hope, seen the error of her ways, per se.
It’s so hard to concentrate, SATURDAY NIGHT is on…. (this segment is so ridiculously funny), so please excuse any typo.

    rebecca1 replied

    CeeCee…

It could…if it were temporary insanity as one could possibly argue for Sabrina. Nina has been “acting out” for quite a while now…she tore apart Silas’ apartment, drugged him to sleep with her, tried to kill Rafe, wants to kill her mother, lied about her inability to walk, has a “hit” list…her mind is completely committed to revenge. Additionally, none of the people on her “list” actually caused her coma other than her mother. She’s been projecting the blame on to innocent people…particularly Kiki.

Yes, it’s devastating to be cheated on. But it’s only a person who has lost all control of themselves who would physically hurt another…it’s crazy to want Rosalie to sleep with Michael to hurt Kiki…it goes on and on. I’m sure any of us would be devastated…and that would doesn’t even come close to the emotional dismay/turmoil one would feel if in reality they were asleep for two decades of their life, lost a baby…and it was all caused by mommy dearest. But that rage has to be contained and directed at that one person…Mad…

I’m the epitome of empathy. I can UNDERSTAND all the rage/hurt/devastation…but I also happen to like Silas, Kiki and Sam. They’re innocent. Unlike you, I don’t blame Silas for anything that happened to Nina. The man grieved for a very long time…he fought her family to be able to see her, he was haunted by guilt and memories. Finally, and long overdue…it was his turn to live. You say he did…well, when we first met him he was a closed-off person, distant, off-putting…he only started to regain his life by taking in Rafe, finding love with Sam and his daughter. He deserves his life. Nina’s problems were not his to suffer.

I’ve come to like Nina as I told you. I think the storyline and the actress is a great addition to GH. But that doesn’t mean I don’t think she’s nutz. What I think is there’s a soul in there somewhere…as evidenced by her love for her brother and her attachment to Franco. I think Madeleine might be telling the truth…that’s she’s always been a wild card. If she stays on the show perhaps she’ll be redeemed…maybe Kevin will find some psychiatric problem that others missed. Or, perhaps Mad is the psycho. She did try to kill Sam and she killed the pharmacist. Then again, she’s probably just another murderer like so many other residents of Port Chuck.

Classic episode Thursday. Had to watch it a second time. The pacing, storylines, acting, dialogue, music – everything was excellent. Not a big event episode but the kind of episode where I feel like I get my money’s worth – more than any other show in recent memory.

Good to see Roger back engaged with the material – his scenes with Michael were awesomely played. Fun to watch Sabrina unravel and wonder (I am spoiler-free) whether this huge about-face in character is an exit storyline or a mere turning point for her character. Great reaction by Sonny when Shawn threw Maxie’s name out there as potential patsy for Franco’s potentially untimely demise. Shawn should know better. Have warmed up to the child actress who plays Joslin – she has a Brady Bunch quality to her that’s been missing in daytime. Madeline and Nathan – these two have powerhouse family chemistry. Donna Mills is putting in one of the best performances of her career – why has this not yet gone viral.

Random thought: Can we bring Spin and Ellie back a little more often – like a couple times a year (as often as Heather, Jerry, etc.)? What do we need to do, start a collection?

Michelle Stafford? Should have the Emmy locked up. In addition to this episode I’d recommend she look at the episode where she first asks Silas for a baby. She had tremendous range in that episode as well and the material was in my opinion slightly stronger.

As for Roger Howarth, I am so glad he’s getting decent material to work with; chill, art-therapy Franco wasn’t cutting it for me. I love RH and I think he’s finally going to start to shine in this role.

RE: SpinEllie – I’m not a huge Ellie fan, I really loved Spinelli and Maxie together but not so much him with Ellie, even if they are very alike and quirky. But yes, I would very much like to see them back, soon!

As for Sabrina, good lord, I sincerely hope this is her exit story because I can’t stand her, she’s full of revenge and hatred for the completely wrong person, and there is no way to justify killing someone else’s unborn child because yours died, how is that human in any way? Why would you want to put someone else through that pain after being through it yourself? She needs to go, STAT.

And of course, Michelle Stafford is gold. She’s rocked it since day one as Nina, just like she rocked it as Phyllis. The Emmy is definitely hers to lose.

Thank you, Jimmy!!!! Kudos to you on your take of Sappy/Snippy….(Heck, I think in future I will just do a hybrid version of that moniker and call her “Snappy,” since she has been quite “snappish” as of late….LOL.) I also have long loathed this insufferable miss, but now that her felonious pharmaceutical farce is about to be revealed (we can only hope….) the notion that she is all of a sudden conflicted about her too-clever-by-half prescription switch is patently absurd. One minute the “Snapster” is staring daggers at Ava’s bulging baby bump and holding candle-lighting ceremonies to justify her bizarre behavior, then the next she’s whining to Felix (now, her co-conspirator/accomplice, but hey that’s what friends are for, right?) about her little “mistake.” Mistake? Good God, you nauseating nurse, you have planned and perpetrated a murder plot unto an unborn life, and you are finally having second thoughts? Get real!!! As if that sudden touch of conscience weren’t enough to make this absolute annoyance sufficiently exasperating, then she goes right back to being arrogant, condescending and self-righteous with genial gentleman, Michael? Oh spare me your mood swings, you galling git! Needless to say, I also am eagerly anticipating the end of this captious, insipid character, and as a cherry on top of that satisfying “Snappy Go Bye-Bye” sundae, I would love to see it at the hands of Britt and her mama, Dr. O with “h#!! to pay for this conniving caper. Wouldn’t that just provide a delicious and perfect symmetry to the well-deserved end of the road for this deplorable dipstick????

SO looking forward to him bringing Carly & Michael to their knees with his revelations!
Michael with his stuffy self-righteous attitude and Carly with her “gotta protect my cub” attitude are both annoying!

I still don’t think Donna Mills is that great. She’s very nighttime TV’ish …. I don’t dislike her, but I don’t think she’s done her best work on GH.

Shay…ummmmmm…nope! I see nothing different in what Sabrina did than 99% of soap characters across the soap universe that freak out and do out-of-character things whether it be from revenge, spite, grief, lust, hurt…take your pick.

Is going after an unborn child despicable? Need anyone answer that? Of course. But there are too many deplorable acts on soaps cumulatively that it’s kinda silly to just pick one. Can Sabrina’s actions be explained? Yes. Justified…perhaps to a grief-stricken mother seeking to avenge the death of her child at the hands of a murderess…a woman who is now prancing around ready to give birth…to have a beautiful, bouncing baby to love and cherish…the very experience that (in Sabrina’s mind) Ava robbed her of…as well as robbing her baby of his life. So, under that premise…I see Sabrina still a victim of her own grief. When brought to the realization that Ava was not the guilty party…the ol’ Sabrina emerged. She tried desperately to prevent Ava from taking the pills…she was ready to turn herself in.

Once again I see no duplicitous intent…just a confused, out of her mind, out for revenge young woman who suffered one loss too many. Doesn’t excuse it; but explains it.

Shay…Honestly? I’m not attached to this character. I like Sabrina…if she’s given an interesting story I’d enjoy watching her. If she leaves…I won’t feel the loss like I did with several characters…AJ, Spinelli, Scorpio. There’s no comparison. But all along, and I still stand by this…I always saw this character written as the epitome of good…and in this world (and a fictional one) bad things happen to good people as they say. It’s how we handle those situations. Some are fragile…some are overwhelmed with little support and react dangerously from despair. It’s the stuff that tragedy is made of…

By the way, Shay…I think you missed your calling. Since you’re so fond of alliteration…I think you would have made one heck of a writer on Batman. Holy smokes, Batman! Sanctimonious, sanctify me cry-me-a-river Sabrina is on my last sciatic nerve!

    Hi Ces…

I agree with almost everything you said but I disagree where Michael’s concerned. I love him. He is sooooo earnest, so fair-minded, compassionate, intelligent…yet conflicted. He took the brunt of being Sonny’s son…Morgan was sent away and Dante never knew him. He’s been shot at, put in a coma, raped, compelled to kill…and STILL he’s the most decent of the lot! He was wonderful with AJ…gave his bio dad a chance even though Sonny and Carly tried once again to denigrate AJ. Torn in his loyalties…he’s been through so much and yet he continues to love all in his orbit….he finds a way to forgive or look away from the unforgivable.

I can’t wait for Franco to tell him the truth about Sonny…but not because I want him to be hurt…but because I want justice for Aj…I’d like to see Michael turn away from the Corinthos name completely and honor AJ…become a Q…as would have been the natural order of things had he not been ripped from AJ’s life.

There are several scenes that stand out for me, including the ones from the past 2 days. Exquisite. I also loved the scene after she got out of the jammed elevator w/Todd..I mean Franco. She was talking to Silence..I mean Silas, about their baby that died & how Ava got the life & family she never did. She was so human in that scene. The scenes w/Britt when she learns she’s menopausal were impressive too. My fav was her freakout “Say Something’” repeats at Rafe’s bedside at GH. She didn’t know if she was dreaming or if Rafe really woke up. Then T..I mean Franco, came in to help her. It was their 1st scene together and magic was born.

I notice a large number of rude comments about Nina, although it’s slowed down a lot in the last few months. Seems people either love her or loathe her & claim she can’t act. (I get a chuckle out of that every time). Well to each their own I guess, but I think many of the rude comments aren’t mad about her acting as much as they’re irritated she came from Y&R and gets a lot of air-time, seemingly over their favorites. I read this over and over. Before MS (Nina) it was MW (Ava) that got blasted. Now it’s BM’s turn! (Jason/Jake). ER (LuLu) too. (I mean, really though,, how can I take someone seriously who has decided already that they don’t like NuJason from his 12 lines of dialogue thus far over a 14 day period?) Fishy!

I hope MS stays w/GH forever, and now that she’s up from that chair, let’s give her a new shiny place to live all on her own, a job and friends. She has major chemistry w/almost every person she’s had scenes with. So I hope they write a bit better for her and I hope the Negative Nancy’s have to eat crow come Emmy Awards night! I would be stunned if she wasn’t nominated. Stunned.

Oh, my gosh, Laurie. Do we think with the same brain, or something? If you read my posts, we say just about the same thing. How can anyone who is not familiar with Michelle Stafford, or Billy Miller…their acting, make such generalizations and irrational comments?
It clear Nina has mental issues, but some posters take out their dislike for the character on Michelle, not Nina. Comments such as, over the top, sociopath, (which belies the fact that Nina has deep, heartfelt feelings, unlike a sociopath who has none), never liked her on Y&R, etc.. Ms Stafford is playing a part…she is bringing the character to life….but, no, many posters laud Kelly Monaco because she posed for playboy, which, therefore, makes her a better actress? Why? Because the expression on Sam’s face never changes? Because there is no inflection to her voice?
Laurie, as Franco and Nina were talking when they first met, I posted lickety-split , commenting on the fact that there was a spark there. Many disagreed, but soon after they started to see the spark also. These two are able to finish each other sentences, as far as I’m concerned.
I keep agreeing with Su…she knows what she’s talking about when she says that Nina will go over the mountain a changed character. I pretty much keep chanting the same litany.
Someone said Michelle is a superstar…TRUE. She has earned her stars…and stripes.
I doubt if she is only on GH for a year. Really? I would be sorely disappointed. There’s just too much story to tell and not enough time.
Yes, she’s out of that chair…and yes, let’s give her the penthouse in which she is accustomed…and, yes, the fabulous clothes…let’s show off the model-like , svelte and statuesque body of hers.
I can’t remember who, but someone actually said Ava was statuesque…no, Ava is voluptuous; Nina is statuesque. However, talent-wise, I believe these two are on par with each other. I study the expression on their faces….their facial expressions kill each and every time.

That would be me, CeeCee….I described Ava as “statuesque!” Since it literally means having a “tall and shapely form,” I find it to be befitting of Ms. Jerome. Not as much for Nina….she is also tall, of course, but I would consider her more willowy, even angular. All good things to be, by the way…..just different!!!!

Laurie….I hate to point out a snag in your theory about those of us making critical comments regarding MS and your simply putting it down to her previous home at Y&R….these opinions are coming from many of the same individuals who have already welcomed Billy Miller to GH with open arms, myself included!!!! Hello? Last time I looked, he also hails from good old “Genoa City!” At least from my own personal perspective, it’s not from whence a performer comes that is an issue, but what they bring with them to Port Charles and whether they can make a convincing and flawless transition….which BM successfully has, and some others have, well, not so much. Besides which, to blame our critiques on a bias against a particular soap opera is ridiculous….I can easily recall how much griping there was (and sometimes continues to be….) about the “Llanview Three,” of which I had no objections despite not being a fan of that show. When it comes to “newbies” I judge each upon their own merits….do I feel an instant like or visceral dislike toward them, and/or do they grow on me as time passes? Their previous places of employment are truly quite irrelevant to me.

MICHELLE HAS BEEN JUST PERFECT AS NINA. HER CHARACTER WAS A TOUGH ONE, AND SHE MANAGED TO DO HER PARTS THE BEST OF THE BEST. SHE’S SUCH A WONDERFUL ACTRESS. I’VE LIKED HER FROM HER FIRST DAY ON GH AS I KNEW SHE WOULD BE FANTASTIC. I DON’T LIKE WHEN SO CALLED FANS KNOCK A NEW CAST MEMBER DOWN THE ROAD. I HAD A CUT FEELING THAT SHE WOULD OUTDUE HERSELF, AND HAVE NO BAD REMARKS TO PASS ON, AS SHE MADE ME LAUGH AND MADE ME CRY BECAUSE OF HER CHARACTER. AND TODAY, I SMILE BECAUSE SHE’S ONE OF THE BEST.

Michelle Stafford is amazing, and she always has been. Phyllis wasn’t nearly as psycho as Nina is, but when Phyllis got mad, she god MAD. and when Nina goes crazy, she goes CRAZY. It’s amazing to see MS play such a range of emotions, very few actors and actresses can do this well. Every day I watch MS on GH it just reminds me how deeply Y&R lost out when she decided to leave the show.

I love Nina, as crazy as she is. And I really like her scenes with Rosalie! I really hope they keep Rosalie around for a while, and I’m really looking forward too watching Nina’s first scenes with Madeline! SO happy Donna Mills is back for this story, it’s sure to be amazing! And after that, I want to see more Nina vs. Ava, Michelle and Maura rocked it on Y&R as Phyllis vs. Diane, so I’m really looking forward to the confrontation here.

I absolutely enjoying Michelle Stafford as Nina Clay! Michelle switches gears easily and effortlessly, it seems-one moment she is a betrayed, hurt wife devastated by her cheating husband-the next moment her entire demeanor changes and she becomes demanding, deceitful, and a tad bit evil. Michelle is a great addition to the cast-so very talented!

Ms. Stafford’s is a master class in the art of acting. Her choices on hand, eye, head placement while in character are brilliant!

A good actors tells the audience what is NOT in the script, but what is going on in their head. No one does it better. Young actors, watch and learn!

Ms. Stanford, thank you for sharing your gift!

Only Ms Stafford can make this otherwise dull character and make it interesting to watch and entertaining..I am loving Nina..I am looking forward in seeing her revenge plot on Ava..That would be some kick butt acting between the two DIVAS…PLEASE Ron and writers, don’t forget that Ava is on Nina’s list, LOL..Need to see some fireworks between these two Emmy winners.

I couldn’t care less about Nina, her mother, her baby, or her ex-husband.

And just picture this: if they showed these clips on The Soup or Jon Stewart, the audience would bust out laughing. Because it is typical soap opera, chew the scenery “acting”. Which is not really acting at all.

Okay, tml. You don’t like change. You like status quo. But, life is ever-changing. Nothing ever stays the same…c’est la vie. Storylines on soaps come and go….sometimes new characters are required. What happens when the actors retire or quit or are fired. There would be no one left in Port Charles.

    Hi Michael Fairman…

Thanks once again for your lively, engaging site that gives soap freaks…LOL..ahem, fans…a place to debate, agree, rip each other apart (kidding…sorta) and have a place to go to share our soap (s) enthusiasm.

Just want to point out that recently some of my replies…and replies to me…have gotten lost on the page under an unrelated comment. Just wondering if there is a way to remedy this glitch?

    Thanks and best…

rebecca1…Just wanted to clarify if some of those “misplaced” comments came from me. They are intentionally placed and here’s why: When someone makes an original post, there is always the reply “tag” immediately after it, and generally such is the case with most subsequent comments. However, it is not always so…and since some of my posts tend to get eaten by the “MM,” and don’t make it online, the fact that I took the time to respond will not at least be verified in the inbox of the person for whom they are intended….hence, I now try to send my comments directly to that person so they know I have appreciated the fact that they answered me and I am doing them a similar courtesy, should my comments not be published. I understand our every word will not make it to post…I am not taking issue with that, but I do like the person that I answered to get my response, which is why I sometimes send them out of sequence if a “reply” tag is not displayed within their more relevant message. Also, it would be super if every post had that reply mechanism…don’t know if it’s an oversight or just something that the webmasters choose not to do…and while I am speaking of this issue, it would be really nice if there were a way to identify the sender of a message when it does indeed make it to our personal inboxes. If the same comments are posted online, you can check, but if not, it is sometimes an abiding mystery…not so much with yours or even CeeCee’s and Jimh’s….you can pretty much recognize one’s personal style after you’ve spent some time here, but still, that little bit of extra identification would be nice.

hey Shay…no; it wasn’t your replies specifically but thanks! yes, it’s frustrating that each comment doesn’t have a reply option…I guess that’s why we need to address the person directly if we’re replying to their comment and not the original op. Ex…my comment…your responce…CeeCee commenting to you (not me) should be @Shay, etc…sigh. Such problems!!!! LOL..(We’d be mighty lucky if this was our biggest problem in life!) ;)

with that lament…I do sometimes find myself doing a name search on the page to see where I or another poster is mentioned to make sure I didn’t miss some scintillating piece of info!
    ;)

by the way, I am continuing to watch Forever…there’s just something about the show that’s missing for me…I very much like Ioan Gruffod (though I’d much prefer an easier name like Jake Daniels or something, LOL). He’s adorable, handsome (different…he’s both), charming, likeable…but Alana de la Garza as the detective is just not developed enough…there’s no quick banter between her or for that matter any of the characters as there was in The Mentalist. I don’t feel connected or that much interested in any of them. I think they need to develop more of a personal rapport between some of the characters…it’s just disjointed for me. We shall see…

I just discovered Witches of East End on Lifetime. Loving that…

    Shay replied

@rebecca1…..Just wanted to address your concerns if my posts were involved….glad they weren’t necessarily the ones in question. As for “Forever,” I am still watching, as well, although the episode prior to this past week’s put me to sleep (literally….) I liked the most recent one much better, yet there is still room for vast improvement……disjointed is the perfect word to describe the show at this stage. Having said that, Ioan alone will keep me coming back, but you are right about Alana de la Garza….she is attractive enough but very detached…I did read that there was not going to be one of those “office romances” between Henry and her character, so perhaps that’s why she’s playing it the “strictly business” way. Just a guess….
