23 February 20th, 2013 General Hospital’s PEOPLE Magazine 50th Anniversary Collectors Issue! Pre-Order It Now!

PEOPLE magazine has a very special collectors issue coming for fans of General Hospital!  In honor of the series upcoming 50th anniversary, PEOPLE takes a look at the history of Port Charles with new interviews and fantastic new photos with the cast! (On-Air On-Soaps happened to be at GH the day the PEOPLE photo shoot was being conducted, and we can tell you the cast looked stunning.)

Featured on the cover of the GH 50th anniversary collectors issue are: Kirsten Storms (Maxie), Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Vanessa Marcil Giovinazzo (Brenda), Finola Hughes (Anna) and Ian Buchanan (Duke), Anthony Geary (Luke) and Genie Francis  (Laura) and Antonio Sabato Jr. (Jagger)!

    I could imagine a better cover, but well, they couldn’t put everything that every fan wanted on the cover…. let’s just hope they didn’t miss anyone inside!

    think I would have had Steve Hardy and Nurse Jessie in the top right and Edward & Lila in the bottom right… at least I’d switch out those two single image areas, but a collage of tiny photos on the whole cover would have been better.

    The way they have Jagger on their is all wrong. It just seems so out of place compared to the rest of the cover. Same goes for Maxie. And as Alison said above, where are Edward and Lila? Alan and Monica? Heck, even Tracy for that matter?!

    I keep noticing they never talk about Karen & Jagger. I believe when they started sonny and brenda they didn’t want it overshadowed so they split them up. Makes me mad. They had a great love story. They should have added Lila with Edward and Steve Hardy with Audrey March Hardy.

    Where is Robert Scorpio??? Clearly, he should have made the cover since he was very important to the GH canvas during his reign as lead.

    Antonio should have been replaced with Robert Scorpio and Maxie with Robin. Agree that Steve Hardy should have made the cover.

    I wish these “Special Editions” weren’t always so expensive ($19.95?). If they cut the price in half, they’d sell many more copies in the end.
    The pre-order price is a little better, but I still won’t be buying one :(

    Wish they had a collage from beginning to today. Would have been nice to have major characters from each decade. That would have covered all 50 years. There are a lot of us still alive to remember Steve, Audrey, Jessie, Lucille, Lee, etc. They at one time were the heart of the show. The cover spans the last 30 years. Missing are the 20 years prior.

    I absolutely agree. I will be deeply disappointed if there is no in depth review of the show’s first twenty years. Some of my fondest memories, as a child, were watching these early episodes with my mother, who always claimed she was only watching to be sure that Steve and Audrey got together. Of course, even after that, she continued to watch.

    I am also concerned about SoapNet’s advertised 50 hour GH marathon at the end of March. I fully expect it to cover only 1981 to the present, with emphasis on the beyond-dreadful mob years. I bet we don’t get a single episode from the 60s to the mid-70s.

    I read that most pre 1975 soap opera episodes no longer exists because the networks reused the tapes to save money thinking serials would never be repeated. Only two serials from the 1960s Dark Shadows and Strange Paradise have all of their episodes( some in kinescope for DS who do have a few lost) are the only two i know that werent erased. Only a handful of other shows episodes, some not complete, still survive. But i keeping hoping someone somehow has copies, and not all were erased.

    This still goes to show you GH is the hotest soap on right now and it doesnt have to be no. 1 to prove it. My only gripe is Steve, Audrey and Jessie werent on the cover. They were the originals and were more part of the shows history than Jagger.

    totallly agree, wheres Y&R 40th anniversary issue, just goes to prove that they can be #! in the ratings but still be irrelevant to pop culture. GH congrats on you people cover you deserve it.

    No African american char on the cover of people mag’s gh issue? typical from daytime and primetime soap operas. African american chars are seldom given priority that is comparable to white chars. there are all these returning chars and yet not one returning char is portrayed by an African american actor. gh’s epic failure.

    wish they hadn’t of lost Justice and Keisha. …. there were several Simone Hardys, I preferred one actress over the others. Maybe Sean and TJ are in side with their ladies.

    Can someone tell me what Carly and Todd are saying on the 50th promo spot? that video hates my computer! won’t play correctly on any browser. I tried to use the captions options and it translated to some language only Luke Spencer could imitate! ;-b
