Of the four legacy soaps remaining, I think GH was the best in telling stories in 2016. While the other three had their high points, they were not consistent. Y&R works n fits and starts. B&B is on replay. DAYS did not deliver day to day. I may not like the characters on GH or many of the plots, but it seems the show moves forward with purpose and some surprise.

Y&R was horrible this past year.

Yes, it was, Abruzzfan. I am holding on until December 7, 2016 when the new writers take the helm.
In fact, these last few days it seemed like the departing writers were going out of their way to make it as bad as possible.
2016 was probably the worst year in American history for more reasons than just the state of our soaps.

    Abruzzfan replied

I completely agree, Addison. 2016 will indeed go down as a dark part of American history.

I’d like to know – exactly – what they submitted… for the LONE nominee… and guaranteed win. certainly doesn’t pack a punch if the other 3 serials aren’t good enough

Patrick…probably the final Sabrina and Morgan stories. And maybe Paul as the serial killer. Lots of tears and ready-made-for-awards angst for actors.

Rose, with all due respect, that Paul Hornsby serial killer story was abysmal! Even Paul looked shocked to discover he was the killer.

    Rose replied

Hi Addison…I probably should have added I wasn’t a fan of any of the three stories I mentioned. I was just scratching my head to see what might have made the cut, and it seems to be stories that provide the actors with chances to “emote.” As for the Paul Hornsby story in particular, what a waste of a really good male actor and character that Port Charles could really use.

    nancy dillingham replied

Paul as the serial killer–are you KIDDING me??? Really badly written–no foreshadowing at all–just “thrown” in at the last minute–and it really showed.

  4. Addison says:

Why? For writing disjointed, fragmented, badly paced story lines some of which are inadvertently dropped without mention?
This is akin to giving Donald Trump the Noble Peace Prize for his Humanitarian Efforts.

Nicely put. Hit the nail on the head. Couldn’t have said it better. Couldn’t agree more. (another example of great writing, LMAO)

Most of the GH stories have been stupid. Someone always back from the dead, etc etc etc – Can’t imagine for what story the writing staff was nominated.

This was the best soap of 2016 (IMO) and my favorite year since 2012.

I guess nominating none of the four soaps was for some reason not an option?

How ridiculous! But we now live in a world where incompetence and destructiveness are rewarded, so why not?! Jelly’s writing is consistently unwatchable, which is why this viewer’s boycott of this once-great soap will continue until TIIC regain whatever taste and sanity they ever had and give these two overrated hacks the boot.

This regime has flushed the show down the crapper and they’re never going to get the wake up call they need while they’re getting undeserved award noms.
