Genie Francis spoke with the New York Post over the weekend, and discussed her return to daytime this Friday as Genevieve Atkinson on The Young and the Restless!
In addition, the soap legend talked about the state of the entire soap genre from it’s heyday when she and Tony Geary were at the height of their popularity as Luke and Laura on GH. Here are a few excerpts!
Genie on her new Y&R character who is said to be the mother of the “murdered” Cane Ashby: “She is driven by a need for revenge and has developed sociopathic tendencies, shall we say. It is really fun for me. God knows I’ve done plenty of soap — but I’ve never gotten to do anything like that ever. I did ingénue much longer than anybody has a right to with Laura. This role is hard, a challenge, and I’m learning more about myself as an actress.”
Genie on the demise of soaps and it’s future… in particular the rumors that GH would be next in line to get canceled: “It does make you worry because there were rumors about All My Children and then, like, six weeks later it was real. So it makes you wonder. I think (Y&R) it’s probably going to be the last man standing.”
